I has a close relative whose wife also suffered from this disease. She wasn't young but was very active despite her age (she was more than 60 when she passed away). She also had a late son, who watched her ilness progressed from the beginning. He fell into depression after that and started to drink a lot. He even had to go to the anonymous alcoholics but this didn't help him, unfortunately. He died from alcoholism soon after - was only 25. His father now lives almost alone in a big house. He has only a younger sister who doesn't have children and lives in NY with her husband. His father is now close to his 80"s

That drama and the movie itself were based on the real life of Aya Kito, who was diagnosed with Spinocerebellar atrophy/ Spinocerebellar degeneration(the drama had a lot more fiction while the movie was based more based on the real person's life.) One Litre of Tears and a Litre of Tears will easily have anyone crying more then a litre,to me it felt like gallons!

This is quite identical to the American film “A walk to remember” yet this movie seems slightly more focused on the condition & issue than it is on their love & relationship. Where in *A walk to remember* it may be based on two opposites, one whom is dying of cancer falling in love but it is not placing our attention on the changes the cancer puts on the couples relationship but the changes they place on each other through their opposing differences. See as in this movie is evolves around Rino’s illness, how it grows stronger, herself and others evolve around it & how well life progresses even with her illness being in it. That being the message of the film.

Ngl there seems to be a trend in these types of Japanese & Korean films (I’m guessing aimed at high school girls) where the plot formula is exactly the same. “Shy ‘unpopular’ girl catches the eye of the most handsome popular guy in the whole school. She resists him at first but he persists, they fall in love, she suddenly gets an illness that’ll disable her so again, she pushes him away but he persists. Popular guy vows to care for her, the illness progresses at unprecedented speed for some reason & within months she’s almost dead or more often…IS dead. The end” like WTF is with this fetish fantasy of catching some illness just so your imaginary beau will look after you. The falling & wetting yourself trope in front of said beau has already been done in at least one other film. IT IS WEIRD PEOPLE!

Her story is also real since she wrote a book, i don’t know if this movie is inspired by a real story, but it’s definitely not a remake of 1 litre of tears, maybe it’s inspired thought since there are a lot of similarities
