I use the midi modifiers to give music a more 'natural feeling' randomising the velocity by +7 and-7 then I rondomise the position by +3 and -2. So at play back no note has the same velocity and the position changes very slightly just to prevent the sequence rigidity. I can just put all the notes exactly on the beat but when played it changes very slightly. Just beware that the notes are not exactlyt the length value when playing the same note but just 3 microbeats shorter otherwise the second note might be canceled out when it is played -2 microbeats before the beat.

Always looking forward to the latest tips from the DOMinator!!!!! I knew about midi mods but not to this degree. Thanks again Dom! Since we're talking non-destructive modifiers, any tips to be able to use Groove Agent patterns controlled by notes without flattening out all the drum notes in order to align the beats? I like the idea of keeping the patterns clean w/o all the notes in the timeline but I found I have to duplicate the pattern timeline w/ the actual note patterns to quantize and get the timing just right. Maybe I'm missing something in GA?!

Here is one way I use these modifiers (you are welcome), when I have a drum track I use the snare that comes with the kit during the verse but during chorus I like to double the snare with some sort of electric snare to give punch, you need 2 midi or instrument tracks one for source and other for destination, in the original drum track I use midi modifiers as an insert in MIDI Send, then enable the destination and choose the second track that has the electric snare sound, under "range" I choose Note Filter and filter it to the note that triggers the snare on the source track (ie D2) both as min and max, every time the first track has D2 note it will be sent to the second track to trigger a snare that is assigned to D2. This way you can experiment which electric snare or even a sound effect suits the original snare is some parts of the song.

Would love to see Cubase modify these MIDI modifier functions to allow any NOTE or NOTES in the clip to have modifications. Then they could add Probability which is tremendously useful for hi hats, etc. Bitwig has some clever functions in the modifiers section that Cubase should take a hard look at.

A small suggestion as well. I would love to have a feature where I can select any chord, hold a key, and change the chord's harmonic type just by moving the mouse up and down, while keeping the same root note. This would happen without needing to select any type from a menu on the left. By holding an additional control key, the software could play the previous and next chords as well, if they exist. It can be difficult to think creatively about chord progressions, and this feature could provide inspiration at any moment.
