I'm surprised giardia wasn't listed in here. I had it as a 2nd grade child and it nearly killed me. I drank water out of a lake which is what caused it for me. I lost 12 lbs in 3 days which is incredibly dangerous when you are so small already. I wouldn't wish that parasite on my greatest enemy.

For those who are worried, the majority of these aren't that bad, as long as you live in a developed country. There is also treatment for the majority of these parasites. And most of the time, you won't just wake up with a parasite in you, usually you would have had to do something to get it inside of you.

And don't forget that the human botfly is actually completely painless and harmless and even has beneficial effects. The only reason it's so dreaded is because if it accidentally hits a nerve it's extremely painful, and because most people just don't like the idea of other organisms living inside them. And if you really want to remove it, there are plenty of easy and painless methods that you can perform at home

Bedbug infestation nearly took me out in 2015! Came to in ICU after 2 wks with no memory of anything for few days prior to and all time in hosp. I had 3 bacteria in my blood sample, two of them were not known to like human hosts. Another exacerbation, another 12 days lost to amnesia, gallons of IV antibiotics, 50 thousand hosp bills and many new chronic med problems! Nearly a year to get rid of critters while drenched in rubbing alcohol which kills them! We call them ninja bugs! Just pray!

For those curious, it can take hours to days to remove adult guinea worms due to the parasite’s fragile nature. If removed too quickly, the worm will break and cause devastating infection. Once broken, the odds of removing the rest of the worm plummet. The body doesn’t take it well.

I spoke to my doctor about parasites, and I actually said, 'why don't you doctors tell the truth to your patients about parasites, and he actually told me, "if we told patients there could be worms etc crawling inside their brains or intestines, there would be mass panic!". At the time, I was being tested for Heliobacter Pylori, a nasty little parasite that can be responsible for ulcers, which luckily I didn't have. But I have been very aware of parasites, ever since I was a little girl, and contracted pinworms.

Ummm, well, been thinking about thr way my deceased mother used to tell us boys, to not come in from the streets and not wash our hands before touching or eating food. I'm 58 this year, and Mom has been gone since 2010. But get this: Walmart opened near where I live in 2015. Because they beat the competition, more and more folks go there. They walk right into the front, begin touching the produce, testing by hand for freshness, touching all the boxes, touching the handles to all the doors, touching the shopping carts, the baskets, touching the boxes, and more. Well, as I recall, that was Summer, 2015, but by April, 2016, seems that I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, some homepathic doctors are saying, that is caused, due all of their patients that are FILLED with Parasites. Each and Every One of Them. But what do I know..🤔 Thank you. 😮❤❤❤

The are quite treatable, and most infections are very mild(to avoid alerting the host). However the effective medication is not widely available, nor really affordable in the west, so many people have them without knowing. Its quite common for people with them to eat large meals, and lots of sugary food. If you need the treatment, look at how asian countries(including developed ones-who have those tiny meals) handle this issue with an annual anti parasitic pill. Perhaps best to discuss this with public health officials who tend to overlook the causes of the obesity epidemic (which is rooted partially in parasitic infections, and the widespread availability of food).
