Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

I know several people who got their careers started by getting a small group of filmmakers together, with each one writing and directing their own horror short, while producing and crewing on one another's shorts, and sharing resources. Then, in post they combined the shorts with a wrap around segment, and turned their individual projects into an anthology feature. It's a very practical way to make a "feature" film.

I'm beginning to wonder if wanting to be a screenwriter is like wanting to be a rock star. Do you want to be a screenwriter because you actually have ideas and have a basic grasp of the craft? Or do you want the fame, money, and Hollywood lifestyle and screenwriting seems like the way to get that stuff? If you just don't have the chops, sooner or later reality lets you know. If you're a mediocre guitar player, all the talk in the world won't cover for the moment you have to sit down and play something.

Kurosawa compared writing to mountain climbing. You can find a clip of it on KZread. “I think young people today don’t know the trick of it. They start and want to get to the end right away. When you go mountain climbing, the first thing you’re told is not to look at the peak but to keep your eyes on the ground as you climb. You just keep climbing patiently one step at a time. If you keep looking at the top, you’ll get frustrated. I think writing is similar. You need to get used to the task of writing. You must make an effort to learn to regard it not as something painful but as routine.”

@@zaroonyakhyakhan4514 Yeah, I think a lot of people go through that. Steven Pressfield talks about 'resistance'. Most of it is just fear - fear of judgement, fear of failure. Routines work for some people. I think it definitely gets easier to make yourself start, once you're in the habit of starting. Another thing you could try is writing a list of reasons why you want to write (just for yourself to read), including all the meaningful and shallow reasons, as a way of motivation. Or reduce the pressure & expectations for a goal you can easily achieve (write one sentence) or write something like a bad poem unrelated to what you need/want to write. Often you'll naturally exceed that target, just by starting and having an idea spark another idea. Corey Mandell has some exercises for procrastination.

@@zaroonyakhyakhan4514 I try to remind myself that the key to getting better at writing, is to keep writing and finishing things. Incremental improvements add up over time. It was the same for me with photography; taking pictures every day, you make progress with your technique, and that motivates you, even though you know you will have rough days, where you have no motivation or get frustrated. It can change in a moment, for good or bad.
