Pogacar absolutely deserved to win, but I feel kind of sad for Roglic. I mean what a life story. Former world junior champion in ski jumping, than he started ride professionally when he was 23 (Pogacar is 21 years old now) a he did incredible progress during these 7 years. He didn't do anything wrong during this tour, he was great in mountains, also today in time trial, but still it wasn’t enough. I just hope he will be able to win TDF once in future.

TJV did a mistake - they simply underestimated Pogacar. They should have attacked him and tried to get more time coming into the TT. Could be that they just couldnt get time from him but they didnt even try because they were comfortable with the lead they had.

AG Coarseman I also expected it to be close, but I have always felt Roglic is vastly overrated as a TT rider and I've never really been that impressed with his performance in the TT's, so I definitely think in future Jumbo will have to use their numbers in a different way to maximise that advantage

  • @DirtyPoul

@@jamessemaj8116 You could see that Roglic had an off-day, struggling to get into a proper rhythm once they hit the mountains. And yet, he wasn't more than a bit over half a minute behind Dumoulin and Porte, and less than 30 seconds behind van Aert. That's not bad for what was clearly an off-day. Pogacar made Roglic seem much worse than he was, as he beat Dumoulin and Porte by a minute and 21 seconds. He beat the best in the world by a 2% margin. That's absolutely insane! Pogacar was simply out of this world. If Roglic had ridden his best TT ever, I think he would've still lost the stage, even if he had kept the jersey.

Modern science + analysis techniques have sucked the magic out of so much of sport (and society). Everything is calculated. Team Sky made the blue print with leading trains optimized to the W/kg. Then a 21 year old kid turns up and "has a go" alone. He got some early rewards with stage wins but it looked like the all stars had controlled (read: sucked the life out of) the entire Tour. Then comes the final day, when its just man and bike. The kid absolutely smokes their super-domestiques and leader in a TT. Absolutely magic.

you are the epitome of stupid. How can you even call this an actual Time Trial ? The road literally goes uphill on the entire race. There is NO point in using a TT bike in this stage because this is not a real TT course. It is the UCI's high horse of "every stage must be 5% + climbing" mentality that has actually ruined the TT stages of this sport. Otherwise you would see an actual advantage.

@@gweflj That will certainly be interesting, but I don't think there's a bigger talent than Pogacar. People were saying that Bernal would dominate based on his win last year as the youngest since it began to matter, and with a pseudo stage win at the abandoned stage. Then in the same year, a kid who is 1 1/2 years his junior takes 3 stages at his Grand Tour debut in the Vuelta along with a 3rd place GC finish. Then he debuts in the Tour for his second ever Grand Tour, takes 3 stages, wins the mountain classification along with the overall win. And he does this with this finishing performance, and he does it with what is a subpar team compared to Ineos or Jumbo-Visma, who had lost 2 of their most important domestiques for Pogacar, especially Aru. What Pogacar did this year is one of the most impressive performances that I know of in cycling history, and that's without even considering his age. Bernal's victory was impressive more or less only because of his age. After the domination of Merckx, only 3 riders have taken both the GC and a secondary competition (not counting youth, as it is still GC). That makes this victory special just for that. But that the second youngest GC winner ever accomplishes this along with 3 stage wins in his Tour debut is unreal. Pogacar is in a league of his own. He probably has the potential to beat some of Merckx' most impressive records. EDIT: Evenepoel is an insane talent, and he will most likely end up as one of the best in his generation. But he's untested at the highest level. Pogacar has shown that he has what it takes, and even far beyond that. I've got my fingers crossed for a great rivalry between the two, but I honestly cannot see anyone beat what Pogacar just did.

@@DirtyPoul Brilliant comment that I 99% agree with. I never thought Bernal would dominate to be honest. I thought the Tour field was rather weal last year IMO. I agree Pogacar is mega. Easily the best rider in this years race, especially when you consider his team. if it wasn't for Evenepoel's junior Worlds win, and to a lesser extent San Sabastian, I would see nobody troubling Pogacar for a long, long, time. I know it was only a junior race but Evenepoel's road race win was by far the most impressive performance I've ever seen in road cycling. It's still on here if you didn't see it. Utter madness! Landa recently said that they have a year or two max to win races before Evenepoel wins whatever he wants. I guess you can say the same about Pogacar too now. Pretty exciting times. Yes, but the way he tailed off in the past, and what Froome was referring to, is that he did that gradually. In this year's TDF he was very consistent and kept a steady lead. What happened yesterday was shocking to everyone, especially because it is well known that TTs are Roglic's speciality.

He took the lead on the last stage. Thats not to dominate. He could just stay on the back of the jumbo team. Its no magic behind that tactic. He was lucky that jumbo or ineos didnt have more riders near the lead. If they had two riders near the lead and send them out on different times he would have to do much more job and they would break him. He was just very lucky by how the event play out this year. He could just follow jumbo like they are his own team because they just ride like a train anyway
