Hi Josh. I have been prescribed amitriptyline for some years. After seven years,I had to stop for a couple of years after passing out and crashing my car. I was on a cocktail of drugs all prescribed at roughly the same time. It was supposed to help with suicidal impulses. These have come back with vengeance. I hope this information helps someone else and adds to your body of knowledge

@@kriyal_kris. Don't take it. Find something else. I liked the relaxation part, but it soon made me do crazy things, several times almost causing my death. No suicidal thoughts ever though. It seemed to build up and i had to reduce the dosage. I gradually weaned myself off it, but in reality it took years to get rid of all the odd things that happened to me. I'm not saying it didn't work, but you will pay dearly for it with the side effects and withdrawal. Take something else.

Been on 50mg daily for six years now for migraine prevention. The following are my side effects I experience daily 1. Myoclonus (involuntary muscle movements) 2. Stuttering and overall speech impairment 3. Short term memory loss (If you’ve seen 50 First Dates it’s similar to 10-second-Tom) I’ll be deep in conversation and in the middle of my talking my brain wipes clean and I can’t remember a single thing I was talking about How did this drug help my migraines?- I used to get migraines 5-7 days out of the week since elementary school, with Amitriptyline I only get 1-4 a week (4 at most on a bad week) These results have been truly life changing HOWEVER-- Overall I would not recommend this drug to anyone. Reason being, my cognitive function has been greatly impacted and I can’t speak normal anymore.

It doesn’t get rid of my fibromyalgia pain completely specially the flare Ups but it has made a little difference. I don’t have very noticeable side effects at this low dose maybe just my skin being a little dryer. You'd be better off drinking alcohol for your nerve pain, but in reality things like Kava and CBD really do help a lot and don't have a bunch of disgusting side effects, Kava and cbd are very clean, and they feel natural when you're experiencing their effects. I only took cyclo once out of curiosity and never again it was a horrible time and felt super dirty, I would never be on any of this gross stuff but I do know that amitriptyline is very similar if not identical to cyclobenzaprine from what I've heard, both are horrible which is why they've been discontinued in so many places. Kava, CBD, Ashwaganda and Kratom are all far better options for depression or anxiety my man, I have first hand experience with kava and Ashwaganda, and I can tell you these 2 herbal supplements work great, I've been on kava and Ashwaganda for 3 years now they do a great job of helping my pain and anxiety, keep in mind I do throw in some cannabis often.

Chronic fatigue is a misdiagnosis for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). My adult daughter in California has ME, and it is a very painful disease along with chronic exhaustion as well. She takes Methadone for her pain. I have had Fibromyalgia and chronic exhaustion for 34 years, and it comes with a sleep disorder in which delta wave sleep is always interrupted by alpha wave intrusion and causes me to wake up multiple times each night. I take 150 mg of Amitriptyline every night at bedtime which keeps me in delta wave sleep, and keeps me there without alpha wave intrusion. A dozen or so years ago, I also developed Insomnia. I take 15 mg of Temazepam along with the Amitriptyline at bedtime which gets me to fall asleep. I do not take Amitriptyline for depression, I take it for the sleep disorder. One of the side effects from long term use of Amitriptyline is unspecified polyneuropathy in both of my feet, which causes a burning sensation on the soles of my feet. FM has dozens of different symptoms. Some come and go, and others come and stay. No two people with FM are alike. What is common with all women and men who have FM, is it is a disease that lasts a lifetime.

Now I have to taper off it again after 22 years....have no idea how I'm gonna do this...it will have to be VERY slow. My poor heart has taken a beating with this med. Blurry vision and very dry mouth as well. Plus if you take this beware of taking certain antibiotics among a list of many other drugs that can increase the QT Prolongation as well. I alternate this with Brazapam and Tranquipam for fibromyalgia insomnia. 50 mg is too little and 75 too much so I have to choose my nights carefully. I didn't realise it could cause urine retention, I've been for 2 bladder procedures already. Now I use certain techniques to empty my bladder. I take one during the day if I'm very emotional or upset about something and don't want to bawl my eyes out in front of people. The cotton mouth is a definite side effect for me.

Drugs like amitriptyline and cyclobenzaprine are complete garbage dude, you should know yourself better than anyone and definitely better than someone who gets paid to prescribe meds that can be either dangerous, unpleasant or highly addictive.

Yes I do actually use it, but I combat the morning lethargy by drinking Red Bull or other similar caffeinated energy drinks. Ice cold cola may work for you aswell, or strong coffee such as Espresso style (Arabica coffee is the type you want to look for). I do that, have a shower, do some push ups and I'm good to go. Sure I still feel a bit dazed even after the Red Bull, but still remarkably better than when I don't use caffeine and high sugar content drinks.

@@Cryptosavage. it did but it gave me hallucinations. I ended up doing a water fast for 18 days and had stopped taking the medicine, I didn’t realize I no longer had the nerve pain until after I completed the fast. So I suppose after I did the water fast, it must’ve healed some things within my body! I’m happy because I don’t want to be dependent on medicine. I changed my diet too. I started doing keto a while after the water fast, and I haven’t had the nerve pain anymore.

This was awful for me, recently prescribed for some pain and insomnia 10mg 1 tab. Took it at 10:30 pm and it made me groggy and sleepy for 27 hours straight just on that one pill, yuck. Sent a message to my Dr. Office that I was not taking it anymore. Unsafe to drive and not someone who wants to fall asleep on my clients lol.

I have continued taking the medication but take breaks from it from time to time. I take breaks because it seems to loose it’s effectiveness- when I start again it works. Dr has said I should just increase my dosage if it doesn’t seem to work but I prefer to just have a break then re-start. Heart palpitations/ rapid heart beats continues to be a problem but not as it was 1 year ago. I believe the problem may have been triggered by eating late (I think) but as I said, it’s not a regular occurrence as it once was.

When I've taken this, it made me so tired I couldn't even function, and this was a 25 mg pill. I can barely get out of bed after taking it. It made me sleep like 12 hours at a time if not more. I would wake up feeling like I drank a whole bottle of whiskey. It made me feel like I had the worst hangover you could EVER imagine. I even tried splitting the pill in half and got the same effects.
