In this video, we will take a look at the most common causes of grey hair.

The colour of human hair is due to the pigment “melanin” produced by melanocytes,
the same cells which are responsible for the pigmentation of our skin. There are two main forms of
hair pigment. There's eumelanin and pheomelanin. Eumelanin is what we see in brunettes and
darker-haired people, and pheomelanin is what we see in blonds and redheads.
These Melanocytes are located in the hair follicle which is basically from where the root of the hair
originates. Each hair grows from a single Hair follicle.
As the strand of the hair grows, melanocytes inject the pigment (melanin) into cells containing
keratin.
Keratin is the protein that makes up our hair, skin, and nails. Throughout the years,
melanocytes continue to inject pigment into the hair’s keratin, giving it a colorful hue.
With age comes a reduction of melanin. The hair turns grey and eventually white, and this is a
natural process. But the problem arises when this reduction in the production of melanin comes
early in age due to some other reasons and there are plenty of reasons due to which this can occur.
Let's look at some of the most common reasons for premature greying of hair.

I accidentally reversed my greying hair, one solid streak in my bangs (looked like I did it on purpose). I started greying in my mid 20’s and I was tested as Malnourished. My Naturopath started me on on a natural vitamin and mineral supplement (Standard Process “Catalyn”). It was amazing as I didn’t know this could happen. I’m a brunette and when people noticed my hair regrowth (brown roots & grey ends) you could tell they were confused by the look on their faces. 🤣 I believe my grey hair was caused by my MTFR gene mutation which makes it difficult to absorb B12. In my case it appears to be both genetic and nutritional deficiency. Valuable information here. 👏🏼🥰

In my family my parents and all my grandparents had prematurely gray hair. Thyroid disease also runs in the family. Recently my hair which is very thick and dry at the roots just refused to take permanent dye AT ALL. My roots are silver and I am of an age where silver hair is not weird looking. I am a natural blonde originally with some auburn and dark brown hairs mixed in. (I found my first white hair at age 15.) I thought about going to a salon or beauty college but did some research and used Color Oops! (two boxes) with conditioners to remove most of the permanent dye. L'Oreal also makes a permanent hair dye remover. This process is way less damaging to hair than any product with peroxides (bleach) in it. It does take a while to do. The permanent dye removal helped so my ends are light blonde. I am just going to have to let my hair grow out naturally. As a word of caution, henna dyes are metallic and can react to permanent hair dyes. Be careful or you could end up with green hair. A beauty supply store clerk is a good source of information on what products are out there for hair coloring and hair color removal.

Males in my family never really go gray, but they go a bright silver white fairly early. My older brother had white hair, as my uncle did by about 50, and the change was both sudden and skipped over graying. I believe I got some of my hair genes from my mother who was sort of still mixed gray and brunette when she died at 70. I asked the nurse for a lock of her hair and when I took it out of the envelope a few years later it was all light brown to honey blondish, it looks and feels very sleek and shiny, and all three siblings were toe heads till about 6 or 7 when it started darkening. Now I have silver white hair around sides and back of my head but still mostly brown on top and it does look strange. I just get the white part cut very short and the top a little longer, looks like I was in the military still. But, I am 65 on next birthday. The odd thing is when I look in a mirror it still looks mostly brown to me, but when I go to a barber they put that black apron over me and I see the hair that falls on the black cloth, it looks all white and gray then. I can't account for this discrepancy. Can it be that when I see my head in the mirror I am not seeing what is really there? That would be a very strange thing, but then people do have dysmorphia about their bodies all the time.

I have deep black hair. I started with a grey patch then a sprinkle of grey throughout my head. I believe it's more genetic since I'm on a vitamin regime. My father has green eyes and brown hair. As a child he had platinum blonde hair that changed to dark brown as he aged. My mother on the other hand is Hispanic and has dark skin, hair, and eye color. I basically look my mother. So I'm bound to have some recessive gene expression from my father.

Outside of Celtic, Slavic, and Germanic populations the world is 99.8% black, most of the 0.2% non-Celtic, Slavic, and Germanic non-black haired are found in the Mediterranean region of Europe and North Africa. It amuses me how these people of color talk about "human" hair color as if blondes, browns, and reds aren't exclusive to Northern Europeans, exposing themselves as having inferiority complexes with actual white people.

Depending on how your gray hairs are distributed you could try having honey or light brown highlights put in to help the gray blend in. This is one hair treatment that only needs to be done once every 3 - 4 months. If you have a friend/family member to help put in the highlights you could go to a beauty supply store and see what they have available for home use.

Genetics! My dad went white early, and I so did I. My mom and brother have hair that has gotten darker as they aged, my mom is 75, and has barely any grey/white hair. One of her aunts was the same, everybody thought she was lying about it and dyed her hair. If vitamin deficiency was the cause, would taking supplements make it come back in with color in it again? I think not. Plus, many poor women in Asia had been on a TV show, being paid for selling their hair to be made into wigs and extensions, and all had dark black hair. I can only guess that their diets weren't that rich in nutrients, BUT, possibly they did get enough of the right stuff, but they were poor enough to sell their hair for much cheaper than you'd think. But, what makes me think that the lack of nutrients thing is most likely NOT a real cause of premature greying is the fact that when you see a anorexic person, they have hair that is NOT grey/white. I doubt they all dye their hair. Many have thinner hair than some people have, BUT, really MY hair is thin and white, BUT, I am as far from anorexic as you can get. Again, genetics! In my late 20';s, I started getting white hair at my temples. The other things mentioned could be right, I don't know, BUT, before you use henna to dye your hair, research it, you can use other plants mixed in with it to change the color. Pure henna will turn your hair a bright orange, and you must let natural dyes like henna sit in your hair for a good long time. And, I don't mean 45 minutes like chemical dyes, up to a couple of hours or more. I used to use henna mixed with another plant based dye. I want to say "indigo", but that might not be right. It made a reddish brown dye. But, not as intense as a chemical dye would make. There's a website all about it, with recipes. IF anybody cares that is, I am now fine with my silver hair. Maybe when I was 30 an had a BIG noticeable bunch of white hair, it bugged me, but now, nope.

Ever since I’ve been using Rogaine, seems to be greying my hair more
