There's some quality to melons and melon flavorings that I cannot stand, but also can't put a name to. Watermelon doesn't have it, but some watermelon candies do while others don't. Jolly Rancher watermelon is fine, but those gummy candies shaped like watermelon slices are not. All the other fresh melons I've had also have that quality to them, it's just watermelon that's different.

The worst drink I ever had was tinned chrysanthemum tea from a Chinese store in the 90s. Although I still have the taste in my mouth when I think of it, it’s hard to describe. Very sugary rotten peat. I offered my mum a can and she said: This comes from flowers you take to the cemetary only because they smell so strange. Well, as always…mum was right. 😎

Reason of why Chinese cuisine contains a lot of weird foods is because there is a general idea of "以型補型" ("Yi Ying Bou Ying" in cantonese) in Chinese eatery, which roughly translates to "foods resembling organs supplement said organs" which is why monkey brains are eaten, or that traditionally inclined people think that walnuts improve brain health (because of its resemblance).
