Why Is Food Packaged The Way It Is?

Ойын-сауық

Weird History Food is getting into the packaging of your favorite foods. Sometimes, logical reasons exist for what seem to be frustrating package designs. Who knew that air in chip bags served a purpose? On the other hand, you might be disappointed to find out that some of the biggest grievances in the snacking product design world come down to a company being stuck in its ways - and not really wanting to innovate.

I know this one! It the fact that they are controlled by two different standards. The meat is sold by weight and the buns are how they are baked (square pans I believe). The two industries just won't get together and make a standard that matches.

I've been a pretty big beer nerd for a while and there have been studies about the "thermal aging" and their fight with shelf life/bottle dating for their lighter beers and IPAs. The 3/30/300 rule was coined after some research, probably a big macro brewer. A beer stored at 98-degrees Fahrenheit for 3 days is equivalent to one stored at 72-degrees Fahrenheit for 30 days or one stored at 35-degrees Fahrenheit for 300 days. Aging is good for stuff like stouts and barleywine where the aging causes the melanoidin browning to improve those beer styles, and also increases body a bit. I had a canned IPA that sat in my fridge for two years, and by that time is tasted a lot more malty and the hops got more piney and grassy.

They didn't win but one of the judges told them to keep the oversized label because it would help their product to stand out against the competition and they kept it. And yes, i prefer the male narrator also.

Bacon wrapping is infuriating, so I try to get mine from a butcher so it's just in plain paper. However a few years ago I did actually find a bacon package that was peel open and resealable - even if not back to vacuum seal. I thought I had witnessed a watershed, alas it was a one hit wonder, and I can't even remember the brand. But most of what we think of as "raw bacon" is actually already cooked, it has been smoked, so a lot of bacon is generally safe to consume right out of the package - but that's not appetizing to me.

The main reason to use a dozen egg is the same as for the shilling: 12 can be easily divided by 2, 3, 4, and 6; 10 only by 2, and 5. I doubt very much that an egg pricing scheme has much to do with it.

Always cook the entire package of bacon at once, it's not worth wasting resealing materials, and cooking it all at the same time you can just put the cooked bacon into a small plastic bag and put it into macaroni and cheese, into a breakfast scramble, put it on a bacon cheeseburger, or even just eat it as a snack by itself. Having cooked, refrigerated bacon around is incredibly useful.

After seeing this video, will people stopped complaining about opening the bags of chips and discovered half of each bag is full of nothing but nitrogen?

thank you for this episode... working in grocery I never hear the end of people bitching about all of these things, believing old wives tales rather than an experienced retail marketing manager...

The lady doing the voice over needs to get her own style. She is trying to use the style of the weird history channel, but all she does is remind me of him. I like the information she is providing, I get distracted by her delivery.

things I think are the worst to open. Dressing or anything packaged with that messed up pull off from the center lid. it never works. Goat cheese. What the hell is it packaged that way for? And also Queso cheese. If opened and unused bacon is only good for a week, then package it in two individually wrapped parts within the outer packaging. Also cereal should have a ziplock topped inner bag. I don’t care if eggs are sold in a dozen, I just want them to not be washed so they stay shelf stable.

I call shenanigans on the slack fill in US chips. How come when I buy imported chips from places like China, India, and Vietnam, there isn't nearly as much air in the bag, and the chips are somehow still in great shape? More like Frito-Lies, am I right?
