The story of The Pilgrim: The Brig Pilgrim was a 19th century sailing brig built in 1825 by Sprague & James in Medford, Massachusetts. She was made famous by one of her sailors Richard Henry Dana Jr., who wrote the story "Two Years Before the Mast" about a 1834-1835 voyage between Massachusetts and California to trade for hides. Richard Henry Dana, Jr., joined the crew in 1834 as an ordinary sailor for a voyage from Boston, Massachusetts via Cape Horn to California to trade for hides from the ranches around the Franciscan missions. The original Pilgrim sank off the North Carolina coast after a fire at sea in 1856. The replica (the one obviously featured in this video) began as a 3-masted schooner. She was built in 1945 for the Baltic trade in Denmark. In 1975, the Pilgrim was converted to a brig in Setúbal, Portugal. After that, she sailed around to various places. I heard tale of one sailor who was part of her crew, who said she made berth in San Francisco for a while. When she came to make her home in Dana Point, at the Ocean Institute, I do not know for sure, though I shall update this comment if I find out that information. She was used as a floating classroom with the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, California, and she set sail every summer on a tour of Southern California with a volunteer crew. As she got older, she was moored, and did not set sail anymore, though was still used for overnight stays and other learning experiences. The Pilgrim was also used in film as well, making an appearance in Amistad, a film directed by Steven Spielberg. The Pilgrim also played the "Ghost Galleon" in Power Rangers: Turbo. The sinking... The Pilgrim was scheduled for a repair in January 2020. The shipyard was full, so they had to push back the repair to June 2020. The US Coast Guard gave the Ocean Institute the okay to keep having programs on board the ship, deeming it safe. There was a small leak onboard the ship a few days prior to the sinking, but it was being managed with a pump. On the morning of the 29th of March 2020, she was discovered sunk in her mooring slip. Harbor Patrol, US Coast Guard, Fish and Wildlife Service, the Ocean Institute, and a commercial towing and savage company were all on hand that day to try and help stabilize the ship. After a week of extensive efforts to salvage her, she was deemed too compromised and the decision was made to demolish her. On April 10th 2020 a tugboat carrying a barge of some of the Pilgrim's demolished pieces was sailed out to sea. Many people came to pay their respects to the Pilgrim on the day of her sinking and throughout the week. The Pilgrim was deeply loved by the community, and pieces of her were saved, and are placed on display around the Ocean Institute, including part of her hull. To this day, in the Spring of 2021, her dock still remains smashed and battered, and her masts and other parts still lay in the parking lot. Seeing The Pilgrim sunk in person killed me. My entire life, I saw her pretty much once a week, if not more, standing tall and proud in the harbor. I will never forget that fateful day... March 29th 2020... I was casually scrolling through Instagram, and I saw a photo that made my hear drop and my soul leave my body. The Brig Pilgrim, the iconic ship of Dana Point, sunk in her mooring slip, laying on her side. I immediately got up and my mother and I went to pay our final respects to the ship. We even facetimed my brother. I remember exploring the pilgrim as a kid, and am one of the lucky ones who got to see her under sail many times!!! What a magnificent sight she was!!! You could pick her out from all the other ships as she was easily the most glorious!!! I can still see her ghost, sitting in her slip, tall and proud, the jewel and pride of Dana Point. Pity she had to go... You were a glorious ship, may you live forever in our memories. Overnight you sunk in the sea, but every day you sail on in our hearts. You will be missed, Brig Pilgrim.

I live in a marina (not for much longer probably) that hosts the Lady Washington and its always such a joy seeing the tall masts over on the docks a ways down when she visits town :) Hawaiian Chieftain, unfortunately, is due to depart for her original POR of Hawaii. The maritime museum that also owns the Lady couldn't afford repairs upon finding out the condition of the ship after a Coast Guard inspection. Luckily though, someone purchased it and is gonna be taking her back home after completing repairs, so I hope her career as a tall ship continues.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Lady Washington a few years ago!!! I think the Hawaiian Chieftain was there as well, I was just focused solely on Lady Washington lol. Fun fact: The Lady Washington played the Interceptor in Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl. And of course I have seen the Columbia, and been on it many times... But I don't regard it as a real ship, as it just goes around a track at Disneyland in the Rivers of America. Lol.

How about climb down off your high horse and ask the question like a descent human being or make and upload a video yourself instead of sounding like a jerk. Maybe just thank him for taking the time to make a video for our entertainment. There are many many beautiful tall ships (Many you probably don't even know of) out there where it would be hard to include in one video. I'm not going to get into a useless internet argument either.
