Finally! An inverter air conditioning unit for an RV. Something that has been standard in residential units, and residential refrigerators, for so long I can't remember when they were not a thing. About time the RV industry tries to say goodbye to the 1970's.

JD, I know I am one of those people that have been pushing for mini-split style AC/heat pumps in RVs. This has my attention, with caveats. What I absolutely HATE about current RV rooftop units is the changeover from HIGH to LOW speed and vice-versa. Why does the fan need to stop to switch speeds? These are the only systems that do this. Residential, window units, ducted split and mini-splits do not do this. If this comes in a heat pump system, ducted and solves the fan speed change issue, I'd be sold. I really, REALLY hope to see videos of you testing this.

It's not ducted and wont be. Furrion specifically designed it not to be a ducted system. A lot of RVs are switching to this unit in the main areas of their RVs.

if you find a nice, ducted solution, please reply here. I am about to put in a Mr. cool diy, but then how do I keep my tanks from freezing that requires propane heat running. I could wire in a fan only switch but why is nobody making a system that won't flood the roof when defrosting?

We own a Vanleigh/Vilano with the ducted A/C's. Hope they can come out with a unit to replace our Coleman Mach's. we want to add a mini split if not. Summer time help is needed.

That inverter drive is an awesome product. Personally I would never buy version 1.0 of anything, but once it gets out in the market and parts are available and Rv techs get used to working on them, this is an absolute game changer.

I like this new invention but now I really want to see the RV. It looks so modern and functional. A totally new style. an you please give us a tour?

I am very excited about this new system. Will definitely be looking further into these for replacement of my GE 15K in the 2022 Winnebago Ekko.

As person that is in the process of building an off grid electrical system for my camper, I definitely am interested in this. I have a 44’ toy hauler and if I could have this 18k unit in the middle and run it off my inverter while boondocking would be awesome.

Guess time wlll tell. Being a retired I/E tech certified in HVAC I understand some of what Saint is questioning. Can you access the coils for cleaning or service? Being new. "could be" parts availibility limited. What refrigerent is being used. Efficency would be much better in older equiment if the third world refrigerents were not contaninated. Kills compressors & piping pretty quick. I do appreciate your videos always. Have learned much from your knowledge & suggestions for safe towing. Thank you!

Ducted units spread the heat/cool evenly over camper. With direct dump your main room is cooler then bedroom or bunkhouse. As for old ones needing bigger generator, testing shows otherwise. We run our 5th wheel 15k unit on 2000 Honda inverter. Our 3400 champion inverter will run our camper plus unlaws camper at the same time. If they want to bring something to market that has had more questions about it would be a fridge that is comparable to the residential fridge for cooling but that will handle the vibration of a camper. Biggest pain is replacing residential fridges through removing slides

I’m building my own batteries and I build my pack to give me 24hours of ac run time with zero sun or charging. I’m in a small 19ft bumper pull. I’m looking forward to this unit as I’m not planning on shrinking my battery but rather just give me more run time. Most of the places I take my rig are only hot during the day and really when the sun is out. This unit will let me better match my power usage to my power production. This is now part of my modification plans

I’ve been puzzled about why there haven’t been inverter/variable speed AC’s for RV’s. The ability to reverse like a heat pump for energy efficient non-propane heat would be nice.

Uncle Josh is the best! I really do appreciate that the KZread RV community is one of the most open and cooperative there are. Edit: I wonder at the implications a system like this might have for the Class B market.

@@BigTruckBigRVlol Nothing to be sorry for, the world would likely explode if we had more than one RV Nerd. A collab or crossover video would be super cool though; Josh and Matt have even appeared in each others' videos and we've seen Matt here so...

This is a great step, that's overdue. Over the next 5-10 years as new RVs come equipped with these, and some older RVs convert, hopefully we'll see some reduction in the demand impact on campground electrical grids during peak heat days. Not to mention, making it more feasible and affordable to run your AC when plugged in next to your home. Exciting.

I’ve been wondering why something like this hasn’t been available in the market for a long time now. Coming from PR, I’ve seen the power of the mini-splits. They’re efficient, which is great for the expensive and limited power grid and they get cold. It’s all people use nowadays over there and the middle class now enjoys AC throughout their home due to the affordability and effectiveness of this technology. The RV industry is about to experience this same revolution and it’s going to be great!

It ticks MANY boxes for me. My primary surprise is that it is only ~40% more efficient than a regular old OE a/c. Many normal residential minisplits are 3x to 5x more efficient. I had a 37.5 SEER 230v 9k btu unit in my 5th wheel running 24x7x365 off my 1900w pv array and 7.8kwh LFP DIY battery for 4 years full-time living. But regardless of the efficiency expectation, this is certainly a game-changer!!!!

I think I heard him say that the 40% is at peak output........ the real savings will come when the unit is stepping down as the coach is cooled down....... I would expect that the numbers will be more like 60 - 70% compared a traditional unit..... only time will tell.

I would be interested in this and the 8k model for the bedroom, as long as they don't go overboard on the price

Been checking for news on this product the last few months. Assuming its not crazy expensive I will be replacing the front ac on my 2001 class a motorhome with a chill cube. I have a non functional generac on board generator. The lower power draw on the chill cube means it should run comfortably off my multiplus and solar + alternator while in motion without draining my batteries. The forward facing direct dump is ideal for me because the hardest to cool area is the front cab with all its windows. I just wish it was a heat pump but I would be very surprised if that wasn't in the pipeline.

Great Video!!! We have a Jayco Pinnacle, so we have a pretty good cooling / Heat pump system, but, this truly is a game changing innovation.

It will only be a game changer if and only if it is as efficient as an actual Mini-split. I can run my mini-split 24/7 in my 39' 5th wheel. 16kwh of Lithium and 2740 watts of solar. In fact my mini-split is so efficient I can still charge my batteries on solar only while the unit is running!

He said on "normal" setting it will draw 10a or 100a @ 12v. My Mini-split only draws 600w (5 A @ 12v) on max and ramps down from there. We need to know the SEER rating of this unit to know if it is a game changer or not. Again...my Mini-split has a SEER rating of 20...so very efficient.

I'm stoked to find this out. When its too hot or buggy to be outside it's annoying having to talk over the AC with friends and family. I have a fairly segmented camper, glad to hear they have a ducted version coming to market. Hope it'll have wifi. I use my easy touch stat to cool the camper down before we arrive.

The remote will probably be Bluetooth, but they have decent range now, but I like your thinking so you can 'remote' in and change your settings if your away.

at 1:58 they misspelled "privite study" on the tv video. but aside from minor spelling issues it looks like a real game changer for RV HVAC systems.

I am so interested in this. I live in my rv full time and I am hooked into a generator for power so something that doesn't pull as many amps on hard start would be awesome. I know you are going to test it and I am sure that you will do a video on it, I can't wait because my units are 8 years old so they will need to be replaced soon and I am really interested in this. So if you do the math (amps x volts = watts) he said in the low end 11 amps, 11amps x 120v = 1320 watts or on high end 14 x 120 = 1680 watts....no way are you running this on a 1000 watt inverter, a 2000 might but it won't like it for long periods, a 2200 watt generator you would be ok.....still gonna take some lithium Ah to power that all day..... No need for a soft start will be nice...

Hey, one big thing no one mentioned - It's an inverter, which should mean it can also blow heat in the colder seasons. What is its minimum outside temperature to heat the interior? My Rockwood A-Frame has a Heat Pump (an Inverter, but not digital speed control) and I love it (one of the best features!) because I don't have to run the propane furnace in the shoulder seasons when you need some heat in the RV. I can set it on auto and it will either heat or cool as needed. It will pull heat down to about 45F. Below that I either run the furnace or use an electric space heater.

We are looking to add a 3rd AC to our 41 foot 5th wheel because the two we currently have just don’t cut it. I might have to wait for this to be released and have this put in instead of the same thing we already have! Thank you for the info!

Going to need a heat pump version too. I wish these were retail available, I'm in need now.

If it don’t have a heat pump option the rec pro unit would get my vote over this.

Im about to get the recpro but wish i could use the heat pump in lower temps like a true mini split. Also, wonder how i will keep my tanks from freezing in the winter. Circulate the propane heat fan using a manual switch?

@@mcconja mine works well in our toy hauler garage to about 26*f we use the propane furnace in the main partition of the camper

We have one of these in our Brinkley and it's so much better then the last 15k we had. Quiet and indeed low draw for our battery.

BOTH my Colman’s went out at the end of this past summer. My RV is almost 3 years old. Of course right at the end of the AC 2.5 year warranty. With it being winter, we haven’t replaced them yet, but will need to by June for sure. Would LOVE to replace at least my main living room AC with this new one! Any idea on when it’ll be available?

Many people buy an RV thinking AC is like a home AC and will keep 70 degrees in the middle of August parked in the sun. Nope!! Having enough BTU's is more important than you think.

Yes, because an RV has very limited insulation, has much higher surface ratio to area than a house, not to mention, running cold air through ductwork in the roof structure is idiotic. On top of that, literally, your condenser unit is in the hot sun exactly where it should not be

I will test 2 of them for a ducted system! Mine is a 2015 Bighorn 3875fb! We live in ours in a rv park! Not much towing

If it's like the variable speed ones in your home. They will be junk carry around a hand full of computer boards.

Wow, it is amazing the tech that is coming to the RV industry. I wonder how long it will take before we start seeing these in the less, but not least, expensive models out there.

I've been in the planning stages for a solar and battery system for a 2 AC fifth wheel for a couple years. This could be the tipping point to get me in the game if they're not horribly expensive. The wattage for the 2 ACs pushes me away from victron inverters which causes a lot of other issues and is really the reason I haven't moved forward. Quick calculation, this would likely move me from a 6kva and 48v system to a 3kva 24v system. That also simplifies the solar array considerably.

If they make that in a heat pump version? Now that’s something I would get excited about!

Wow, that's great, lighter inrush for load, AND variable load sheading so you can tailor it to your solar supply. The fact that you'll be able to drop down to a tiny one for the bedroom will also be amazing for solar load management. Did they say end of year for release?

Recently purchased a Yoshino solid state B4000 power station for home and rv use. You might want to investigate this product. I am using it for home furnace backup and am going to run my residential fridge while driving my rv. It is half the weight and size of other brand units.

Great overview of a new to market product that could potentially change off grid A/C. If it had a reversing valve to also function as a heat pump, I think I'd be sold. That's the one area I believe a mini split still has the advantage.

It was going to be exactly the upgrade I have been waiting for but cancel that because having all 18k BTU directly dumped in the same spot blows (pun intended). It might be efficient but if it isn't even ducted then the technology doesn't feel so luxurious. Hi, welcome to my giant beautiful 5th wheel that looks picture perfect but sucks to hang out in because the center is always freezing cold and the edges and bedroom barely cool enough to sleep in. Stick with a ducted solution.

Doesn't need to be ducted. I replaced 2 ducted 15k Dometics for 2 12k mini splits and cools better. Mine is a 40' Teton.

Mini split steel pulls less amps, and you can use a smaller b. TU. Unit. And it is a heat pump to All they have done is made. A soft start units, nothing more.

Cost and availability! Houghton not much of a problem but the Trauma is another thing. The closest Trauma installer to me was five to six hours away.

Great review but would have loved to heard how many required for different size rigs.

Surprised they didn't open this thing to show us the guts. To me it's important to see that for understanding. But id this comes in a dump (for my loft) and ducted, I'll buy 3 since I now have 3 on my Brookstone by you JD.

Would love the smaller heat pump version for the bedroom. Would get one immediately.

My question also was will it also be available with a heat pump? Noting that mini split heat versions can operate at a much lower temperature than the traditional RV heat pumps which basically becomes useless below 35 degrees.

I don’t know anything about HVAC systems, especially in RV’s other than they make the interior cool or downright cold. I’ve owned a Class A and a Class B, and I’ve been in a few travel trailers, but they weren’t newer models. The main issue was always the noise. This one sounds quieter than any I’ve ever heard. I would be interested to know if it has a heat pump. Perhaps it was mentioned and I missed it. As far as a direct dump unit and the racetrack type system, I would think the racetrack system would cool the interior more evenly contrary to what this guy says. You also don’t have a vent dumping air directly on you when seated on the couch. The selling factor is being quiet and not needing a soft start which sounds awesome. As far as mini splits. Hundreds if not thousands of people install them in their bus conversions and every video I’ve seen say they’re awesome and never had a problem. So, while JD’s comment that they weren’t made to be in an RV is true, they seem to be great in that application. They’re very quiet and easy to install but I believe they’re expensive compared to an RV unit, but I’d guess one unit is all you’d need for a 35 foot bus whereas you’d probably need two RV AC units. I have no idea if the RV units are more efficient than the mini split, but that would be important to know if you do a lot if off grid camping.

This unit looks great but.... How is its cold weather performance??? As a skoolie person, one of the MAIN reasons we use minisplits is for the hyper heat feature of them allowing the heater to work all the way down into the -20's. Are these units even heat pumps and if so, do they auto defrost and handle the cold well? Food for thought
