Mos Def - Black On Both Sides Album Review (The Archives)
Mos Def's debut album was a game-changer when it dropped in 1999. Today in 2020, it's just as powerful, thought-provoking & poignant. What an incredible album. I always loved it, but working on this review made me love it even more! How do you guys feel about this one? Shout-out to Captain on the background instrumental! soundcloud.com/yoitscaptain

Thanks for this, it is really a classic front to back. I hear it since it was released back then! One of my fav albums ever. Really like your classic reviews. The rest, too!
Kind of an underrated classic here. Doesn't get as much love as it deserves but it doesn't take away from how great it is either.

I agree.
7 years ago, I randomly listened to this album. This is the album that really kicked off my unbridled love for hip-hop. This marked my transition from just listening to what was popular to what had depth and meaning. I then just continued “digging in the crates” for years and found more and more amazing hip-hop artists ranging from Nas to Common to Big Pun. Thank you for this amazing masterpiece, Mos! This album will forever have a significant place in my life. 10/10
Big up for revisiting this one Luke! One of my all time favourites
“Don’t Get Me”changed how I viewed hip hop music! It’s not just about beats and rhymes but it teaches you life lessons, by learning what not to do when you are living in an environment that if you make one bad decision, it can cost you your possessions or your life! “So put those egos to the side and get off those head chips/Before some cats pull out the heater and make you headless” That line stuck with me and now I’m almost 40 years old and I still make sure that I’m making wise decisions! I thank that song for that! Great review!! Love the content!!
This is my favorite hip hop album of all time. The lessons and reality Mos def is kicking here is amazing. This man literally made a song about the importance of water and math, I would also like to mention, he did not call a woman a "bitch" one time. This album is brilliant.
One of my favorite 90s hip hop albums. I love the message of Fear Not of Man, Umi Says, Rock n Roll, New World Water. Planning to watch Ms Fat Booty music video too now, since ive never seen it
Luke this is virovizion just stepped my game up and manage more accounts been here since tbe beginning love you bro its the legendary luke james 🚀🚀🚀
Top 5 all time for me. So incredible
Such an amazing album
INCREDIBLE!!! The one of the most underrated albums of all time. Gets overlooked just because of when it came out

Too me
This album is a great poignancy and Absolute gem to rock out towards Smooth jazzy vibrant sounds brought the best of him. Straight 5 Mics nothing left to be said!
this album is absolutely incredible, not many have the talent that a young Mos Def had. his flow is just something else and i love his style of songwriting. dude can sing too. i think an album that is criminally underrated is The Ecstatic, it’s my favorite of his.
REST IN POWER CHADWICK BOSEMAN.
I'm absolutely loving it. Keep it up! Another archive I'd love to see would be either of Jeezy's first 2 albums. Or also how about taking it to the 80s with Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, or LL Cool J? Or how about some Naughty By Nature? Or how about a Roots album? RIP Malik B.
Now that you mention the DJ Premier and ATCQ tracks, this album reminds me of Illmatic. Combination of great production, rhymes, and overall vibe, this is definitely a classic. The only track I didn't like is the rock track but the rest is excellent.
Came here to hear about your thoughts on New World Water. 👌🏿
Bro you need to review Nines - Crabs in a Bucket, from one of the biggest UK rappers
I'm interested in your thoughts on OutKast's Stankonia.
Classic
Yo you should for sure do Thieves in the Night by Mos Def and Tylib Kwali it is even better imo one of the best hip hop albums of all time !!!!
I’ve known songs like mathematics and ms fat booty for a while, but in the past 2 months I’ve really delved into this album. One of my favourites of all time. It’s an album that most people haven’t listened to in full, but is well worth a listen. The black star album is fantastic as well. Great review, love that you’ve decided to comment on this album!

A great album you should review is Power in Numbers by Jurassic 5. Another album that most people haven’t heard of. The songs touch on so many different topics/concepts that are still relevant today, similar to Black on Both Sides.
review No Way Out by Puff Daddy & The Family next
I love this album!!!😃
One of my favorite albums‼️
This is one of my favorite albums, but I feel like nobody likes it as much as I do. It's probably top 10 for me, or if not, at least close to it
Classic.
