Hey, two questions!! 1. What is the difference bw the metatarsal gel pads that have vs dont have toe seperators and their effect on healing a Mortons Neuroma? (I just bought a pair with the seperators and was wondering if its neccessary bc it does feel awkward...but im not sure if switching to non toe separation ones will have be less beneficial for a neuroma since you mentioned the constriction of the toe box) 2. Where do I find the orthotic w the round pad embedded within it (as seen in your red pad) I checked your links and none of them have that, also searched Amazon and came up empty handed! Really appreciate your video and would appreciate a reply.. Subbed and liked

I just turned 21 and got the morton's neuroma , my dream job is to become a cabin crew which require wearing heels , my favorite sport is horse riding which requires a lot of pressure on the ball of the foot . My doctor proposed surgery which im too afraid to do which caused me to reject the idea. its really the worse thing to have especially at this age.

Thank you for your video. Thanks Dr. Tom Biernacki. Your video is a Good mix of humor, facts and suggestions. I suffered with MN from an exercise injury. Had injections, but they didnt help long-lasting. Here's what worked for me: 1) Changed my shoes to good fitting flats, rather than heels. (My foot size had gotten larger, and I wasn't aware of it, until I had a professional shoe fitting done). And yes added proper pads 2) Walked in sand as often as I could. 3) Ate a serious ANTI-Inflammatory whole food plant based diet and over time... I can now walk on tile and concrete barefoot, without pain. I prefer wearing shoes, of course, but I feel 99% of the pain of the MN is now gone!

I've been to multiple doctors, had multiple ultrasounds and as many different diagnosis of what's been causing my chronic foot pain for the past 4 years. Finally had it diagnosed as Morton's Neuroma...hopefully the orthotics will start to give me some relief...I'm at the point of feeling completely helpless...its depressing

What worked best for me wasn't even mentioned...... get a cheap pair of orthotic supports from CVS, mark the area of your neuroma on the orthotic, cut a hole out of the orthotic and stick it in your shoe. When you step down, the neuroma bump slides right down into the space of where the hole was cut out. A large neuroma might need two layers of orthotic support. I suggest one hard and one gel support. After 2 months, my neuroma has shrunk to where it is almost non-existent.

Thank you for your video, it is so nicely explained and demonstrated! I'm currently on sick leave, still not knowing what the Foot Pain I was "diagnosed" with by my GP is. Would it be possible to have a neuroma between the 4th and the 5th metatarsals, please? I've been working for 6 years in a warehouse (hard floors), walking in Dunlop rigid safety shoes for 10h/shift 😖 now, after 5 weeks of being mostly in bed, I see no improvement at all 😔 shouldn't it have gone away? The pain is more in the top of the bones than the sole. Finally, do you have any recommendations for safety shoes that won't kill my feet, please?

I bicycle every day for about 45 minutes, and I suspect I may have Morton Neuroma. It does seem to help if I put a lot of padded supports into my shoes. It would be helpful to recommend some brands of shoes. This was a fascinating video, and something neither of the two podiatrists mentioned as a possible source of pain. Thank you.

Thanks, all the info seems helpful. I just felt “the pebble” in my shoe a few days ago and the pain and discomfort hasn’t gone away since. Right foot. It doesn’t hurt to walk but it does to do anything extra. I will definitely try the ice and the pad under the insert. I’m quite active with working out and social dancing and still a little heavier than I’d like to be, but not ready for a walker give any of my lifestyle up. My exercise shoes are Brooks and Asics and those were specifically for my step and my foot type. I will be trying your tips before any cortisone or surgery. But thank you for putting this comical and helpful video for those of us who self diagnose and roam insurance-less. ... Now on to search another of your videos for an issue on my left ankle. 😄

Genius. I don't know what I have except that about 6 weeks ago I noticed a shooting pain at the end of the second toe at every step (one next to big toe) and I feel a clicking under the ball pad of my foot if I rub there. No pain there but searing pain end of toe pain when I put my foot down and walk. Can almost not walk at all. Bought metatarsal pads and not much help. So after this video I took the insole out of my jogger and added the pads to the location in the video (underside of the insole) and wound with masking tape. I have walked around the house and no pain. Thank you for the advice!

Hi, my doctor seems to think I have Morton's Neuroma but I hear a lot of talk relating to the ball of the foot and my pain is on the top of my foot - although feels like its in the middle of my foot - as in nerves somewhere at the base of my toes. I'm wondering is it more extensor tendonitis?? Would the treatment still be the same?

It’s my personal experience that at a certain point, you will eventually require surgery to deal with the problem of a neuroma. If you suspect that you’re developing a neuroma, get some proper shoes. You need shoes with a foot shaped toe box: Crocs are awesome. Altra

A great shoe should have a wide toe box so that your toes are not crunched. When trying on a shoe take out the liner that comes with it. Stand on the liner. If your toes go out beyond the liner, the shoe box is not wide enough. Brands such as Altra , Hoka, etc have wide toe boxes.

Asics and Avia shoes being a bit wider than the New Balance that caused my neuroma are the best fix., Stretch your toes and foot anyway you can daily. Don't walk on hard floors use slides shoes or stay on the carpet. Avoid surgery. Get BETTER inserts for you shoes, not cheap ones. This condition will not go away but, can be reduced to a painless condition.

Thank you. I have been diagnosed, after going to 7 Podiatrists and 2 neurologists, with Morton’s neuroma using ultrasound. Another Podiatrist did not see it on the ultra sound he did. But last week it was visualized clearly as 5 mm. The Podiatrist I’m seeing uses a YAG laser. I am in so much pain and have been for seven months that I cannot walk since getting two Cortizone shots. The Cortizone shots did damage. But I don’t understand how the laser, while reducing inflammation, can fix this problem of Morton’s neuroma, since it is caused by a thickening of the nerve. I have been using a red light LED therapy pad and it does help with the pain. However, it has still gotten worse. Is this simply a temporary inflammation reducing treatment? Is Morton’s neuroma is simply an inflamed nerve? I am concerned that the level of pain that I am experiencing and I’m afraid that I’ll never walk again. It’s been seven months. I was sent to a neurologist who said there is some damage but not enough to cause me not to be able to walk. So he sent me back to the Podiatrist. The podiatrist sent me back to a neurologist to see if I had complex regional pain syndrome. The neurologist said I didn’t have that and sent me back to a different Podiatrist. Any weight on my feet sends me into weeks of serious pain, i’m both feet, but more than anything else radiating from one spot on the bottom of one foot where the neuroma was found. Thank you so much. I’m at my wits end. I will try this YAG laser, but I do not understand how it could work? .

Clearly a challenging situation, if it is related to more standing and walking that means relieving stress can help it. It can be tough to do but in the vast majority of cases it can improve. Many cases as you describe that were 3rd or 4th+ opinions usually were still biomechanical at it's root. But not everything is the same variables for sure

Michigan Foot Doctors Thank you, it was very kind of you to reply! I’m encouraged by the fact that this latest podiatrist Did find a neuroma in my right foot in the exact spot where I had drawn a red dot with a magic marker to let him see the locus of my pain! So even though it took forever, I am thrilled that finally someone found something. I’m not sure I understand why this isn’t something they looked at a long time ago, but better late than never. I also think I’m going to give this YAG laser a try. I just read a whole bunch of testimonials, and it appears that many people have experienced tremendous relief after 7 to 10 treatments. The other option I have is perhaps to do the Dellon nerve decompression surgery. I have not been able to walk only if I put any weight on my feet they hurt too much. He did not look at my other foot, as he did not have time, but I believe that has a neuroma also. So one way or another, I think I’m getting a handle on this at last. Thank you so much for being there. You seem like a very kind and caring person. Thank you for helping people! 💕

Sheyla Mallma So sorry about your pain. My pain is ok, it hurts if I irritate it but it’s manageable IF I’m careful when I lie on the floor exercising and never put weight on it. I use this. equinelighttherapy.com/shop-online/gospels-small-light-therapy-pad They sell the same thing on Amazon for $179. Actually the one there is bigger. I wrap it around my feet and it really does wonders for the pain. I didn’t believe it would work but it does. You can find a lot of studies/information on the use of red light for pain if you Google Low level light therapy, or red LED light therapy. I’m getting this done next week. Non invasive, no pain. Takes 7 to 10 treatments, One treatment per week. He’s been doing it for seven years with great results. It shrinks the Morton’s neuroma. www.bociandpm.com/contents/laser-reviews You could call his office and see what they say.
