Yes, well done, finally!
Finally! Envious and loving it. Can not wait to see you get to new projects.
Love watching your videos. This was quite a journey, so glad you kept working at it. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Great job!!
That was a gloriously brilliant ending... it being something so simple. I never would have thought of that jumper. Our long national nightmare is finally over. XD BRING ON THE BRONCO!
Congrats John! I’ve had a few of those ‘is that really all it was?’ moments fixing pinball machines. I have a love/hate relationship with those moments. The eye opening moment when learning has occurred is a good one. Nice going.
Just wanted to leave a comment and say thank you for documenting this. It has helped me troubleshoot my MK2 Cab and get it up and running!!
You earned this one man! What a beast of a restore.
this came out gorgeous! thankful we got to hear from future john before the video ended
I was like noooo, so close. Then that jumper. Nothing is as satisfying like when you find the problem.
Sweet John actually doing a arcade video. I love these.
Learned about deoxit thru your ch, best stuff I've ever used for cleaning my connections!!! Thanks for all the good info on what u do!!!!!!
Nice! Congrats on finally getting it all going. Very interested to see what you work on next!
Wow! I can't believe that you restored the Mortal Kombat II arcade cabinet, John. Finally.
I'm glad to see you fix your mk machine.. Congrats🎉🎊👏👏
Awesome! Great work John.
great job John, another great restore!
Awesome job on the restore! MK2 is sweet!!!!
Awesome, we're back in the basement! I'm really looking forward to MKII finally working for you.
FLAWLESS VICTORY
Crazy fix. Nice find dude.
Way to go John!! Looks awesome!!! I’m surprised you didn’t notice it earlier when you had the board off during the solder reflow. In the immortal words of Boris Karloff....ITS ALIVE!!!!!!
MK II looking great man!
Love your vids bro..I have a arcade machine in my mancave and when I seen your vids on here explaining how things work ect it gives me inspiration and ideas and troubleshooting tips on how 2 toy with mine👌👍
This update is going to help me so much. I restored a MK II a long time ago and had everything in place and then the monitor snapped off and I could smell smoke. I am planning on doing everything you did to the PCB to try and resurrect it. This guide has been great and I am now ready to order parts and try to finally finish it up.

Awesome! Good luck!!
great video john the game looks great!!!
Holy god John I have experienced this level of frustration working on a Neotec 2701 !!! So frustrating !!!!! I was getting anxious again watching you go through this, PTAD Post Traumatic Arcade Disorder !!! HAHAHA Very happy for you man. This machine will definitely have a sentimental value for you every time you look at it with all of your blood sweat and tears you put into her :-) Congrats sir !!
Congrats, it is done!!! "It has begun"
Been waiting on this one for a while!
Holy Moly! 2.5 hours long! I’ll have to watch it tonight... 👍👍
hey john great video loved every bit of it hope u get it sorted m8
I just spent 2 hrs watching you struggle for 2 or more hours... For a damn jumper! Was it worth it... YES!
Thanks for the new video!
this is so interesting. Now they are building super game computers, but this game is like archelogy. Keep it up!
Awesome, glad you fixed it pal, looking forward to final bits to finish it off, stick it in its hole and a quick gameplay, then you can move on with your life 😎
Congrats finding that John!
just a jumper? never seen a test pattern jumper or messed w one wth glad you figured it out!
Finally a bit of luck with this game! Glad you cracked it mate, looks fantastic
It's always...ALWAYS...something simple and silly...that will stump you. Reminds me of trying to defeat noise in a cassette cable not realizing the replaced stereo cable causing trouble with a stray ring line grabbing noise. Glad to see things worked out in the end...
I was begging you to plug the Tetris board back in and you finally did! :D

I think the first time I plugged in Tetris I only had blue, so the lines weren't so obvious to me then. And, well... the TPG didn't show any lines!

FIRST. Congrats on 40k, JJ!
Thank goodness you finally do it and really in shock that simple jumper cause to has bars on the screen and it was shocking. Anyway MK2 is finished. hurrah.
Yes Pubble Bobble is a great game lol. Grats on finally finishing this game John sheesh it's been a long time.
Yes ! Well done
Epic win! 😎👏
Finally! This restore probably has more episodes than Days of our lives! The game looks fantastic though :)
John love the video quality of your Sony Handycam! I know this isn't Mortal Kombat related...peeking over to the left at your Ice Cold Beer coin door. Mega thanks for reading my mail John!!

John, finally you got that bad boy fixed. It looks amazing. I hope you do a follow game play on MK2 👍
I'm building a Multi-Kombat that I'm documenting on my channel. Nice work!
What an ironic twist and ending to your frustrating Mortal Kombat 2 John, looking forward to the video of you playing it. Hold down Low Kick a few seconds then let go for Liu Kang's bike kick
Job well done matey ;)

Yes!!! Finally John you did it .it looks awesome man now you should do a Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3😂😂😂😂
Give the board a good scrub with an used soft toothbrush and some isopropyl alcohol , for the love of god :D A very clean board leads to much much less problems in the long run :D

That damn jumper!
Please someone make a clip of John saying "we can't screw this up" and then cut to him completely missing the crimp. Best moment of the video
hi john! according to mame git, this is the explanation for the extra button: /*Note-the real MK2 board has a special cable designed for SF2 cab conversions that has the 2 SF2 Medium punch/kick buttons as block buttons for MK2. The secondary block button registers in test mode, but does not have an indicator light show up. During gameplay, the second block only functions temporarily. You can hold the button, but the character will only take a block position for 1 second. This is correct behavior.*/
First lol glad to see this getting finished.
John please buy some contact cleaner and clean the pots, also that battery terminal was dirty as hell
According to Ken Layton on KLOV: "Thick, dark, stationary vertical lines (1/2" or wider) are called "jail bars" and that symptom is ALWAYS caused by bad electrolytic capacitors on the monitor. Thin, light or dark vertical bars (1/4" or less in width) are generally caused by bad video ram or other bad component on the GAME board. Thin, white diagonal lines across the picture are called 'retrace' lines and are caused by the "screen" control on the flyback turned up too high. Thin, dark diagonal 'worm wiggle' or 'herringbone lines are caused by a bad ground on the power supply. Thick, rolling HORIZONTAL lines in the picture are likely from bad filter capacitors or shorted voltage regulator on the game power supply." Edit: CRAP! Watched the last few minutes and saw that you fixed it. Good catch!
Yay! You finished the MK2! Good job on finding that jumper! Well I got good news my Gauntlet machine (the one I got for 50 bucks) it has a Hantarex monitor too. So I'll just send that your way to let ya fix it because you seemed to have no problem fixing yours hahaha just kidding this thing is going in the trash. Keep up the good work John and congrats again on "Finishing" the MK2
Now go to the secret EJB menu! ;-) Congratz on finishing it !!
Wish I had a basement arcade like his :)
Mortal kombat LIVES!! FLAWLESS VICTORY!!
Ya need to finish this.
If you adjust the shutter speed on your camera you can eliminate those rolling lines on your monitor.
finally, lets play....!
Great to see you finally get MKII up and running. Really enjoyed watching this project evolve. Have you got something in mind for the next one once MKII is totally wrapped up?
God bless Polos!!
Welp, I am not going to bed anytime soon lol.. I wonder if we will ever see a black tiger arcade cab on this channel.
So you are the one ringing that bell on the VGO podcast!!!
Great job - now im curious what will be the next project :-D
Now you have to became good in mk2! Toastyyyy

Yes. I know. :)
nice to see that the past John called it..."hmm...maybe it's something really stupid" lol
Wow something as simple as that, top work John, and that monitor looks really crisp, personally I prefer Mortal Kombat 1, is that the same pinout? Possible to have both boards and a switcher?
Tomorrow, I need you to go order a Molex pin extractor tool. Don't risk your hands!
IT WORKS!!! woo
you should do these restore videos live so people can comment ideas to help solve the issues with the games.
could try deoxit on the jamma connector
Well, you've got more than one PCB there, so you should specify which one you're talking about. The monitor alone has at least 3.
I'm going to be hearing "Ya! Huh! Ungh! Ooh! Ah! AWWWW!" in my sleep now.
👍😎
John, whats the best way to clean the coin doors? One of the coin slots is sticking!
Yea!!!!!!!!!! We fixed it :-)
Maybe you can do a restore video on that popcorn maker.
Very nice Channel John and a Lot of good informations:), but i think the Monitor is damaged...oxidised or Something?
Congratulations John! that jumper problem was annoying...is there a reason why those lines wouldn't show up on your test pattern machine hooked up?
@Johnsarcade

Yes, I was wondering the same thing. Why did the TPG not have lines? Maybe it's got a stronger video signal?

On Mame the Mortal Kombats have 6 buttons in the setup menu. Two are used for Block, so that extra button is probably an extra Block switch.

i've noticed that too, it is explained on mame's source: /*Note-the real MK2 board has a special cable designed for SF2 cab conversions that has the 2 SF2 Medium punch/kick buttons as block buttons for MK2. Yes, I think we should do one more video. Not 100% done but VERY close.
I like stupid John, future John knows too much :P
What have you done to the popcorn machine?
Whoaa, you finally fixed it! Ughh, don't you hate it when you did all or most of the hard stuff BEFORE you discovered the little easy thing that fixes it? UGHHH!
Did Turning you hobby in to work at the hanger, make it less fun?
Jumpers for life lol

Has this MK restore been more of a project than Journey escape?
