MORTAL KOMBAT ARCADE RESTORE PART 13 - HANTAREX POLO FILM CAPACITORS

Ойындар

In this video we are going to revisit our old friend, the Hantarex Polo monitor. Following the flow chart, we will check C172, C174, and C175. These are the film caps near the flyback. We will test each using our ESR meter. Are these shorted?
Enjoy the vids? Consider supporting me! Thank you, John! youtube.streamlabs.com/johnsa...

Infinite resistance = open, 0 ohms = short. That capacitor looks to have failed open rather than short. That type is non polarised, but the voltage ratings are important to get right for safety.

Um, if something's shorted, the ohms are not infinite; they're *zero.* So if the meter says the ohms are infinite, then it's actually *open,* not shorted. There's another good place for a card over the top with a correction note.

Your basement is so awesome!!! I wish I could have one like that but alas I live in Texas and we don't have basements as the Ocean water is like 15 feet down lol. The sewers have problems sometimes. I live in a small 2 bedroom condo, one of the rooms is empty but I could only fit about 12 games in it if I ever decided to buy any... I guess I could fit 5 more in the dining room but thats about it. Oh well I am content with my little condo and I have a ps4, xbox one, and a switch plus a decent pc so yeah. I love how you have your pc in that little nook. I am going to have to create an enclosed "nook" for my gaming area one day I love being enclosed lol.

Its now week 13 of this year and only 5 videos from this channel..... Yes I remember those day, it all went to sh!t when John and Jay put games in the Hanger. I think working on arcades became a "job" for John instead of a "hobby" and is why he finds it hard to get motivated make work on his "Basement" arcades and make videos. These days he mainly plays PC and switch games.... Sucks but that is the truth!

I agree. For the past years, John was already a busy man dealing with his daily job, music, arcade repairs videos and weekly VGO show. Being an operator (especially with 3 locations to take care of) on top of that has surely sucked up most of his spare time and led him to neglect some of the aspects of the hobby to focus on what pleases him the most which for the moment is : online co-op games broadcasted live on twitch, creating a new cartoon animated serie (which i don't really fancy... no offense though), working on a new music album and being a host to VGO tuesday show.John has been steadily dedicated to arcade restore since 2008 and i think the guy has right to take a break from it whenever he sees fit. That being said i'm sure his motivation for it will come back with the sun and heat when access to the garage will make it easier to work Inside (the basement seems tight as hell and not a very pleasing place for a job on a restore anyway... Take a look at this video here seeing him diagnose this poor monitor chassis on the wobbly table or remember the computer space restore with Adam constantly starting up frogger when taking a step backward).Let's be patient :=)... Just my 2 cents anyway !

Hey john, good luck on the polo. I feel that if you can fix a polo, you can fix anything in the arcade world lol. Did you, by chance, ever do the light bulb test with this monitor? It will let you know whether the short lies on the deflection side or power supply side of the board. Also look for cracked traces and test with your continuity meter.

A shame that Augmented Reality isn't quite with us just yet. Could have a virtual map in front of your eyes to see what part goes where, highlighting the exact pieces and spots to work on...even when you turn the board around to know exactly which 'dot' to de-solder at. And, you could zoom in on part information. (If you still needed it.) AND have some stylish, tech glasses that can be decoyed as an assistance tool and/or fashion. If that isn't Trek enough, we're always coming closer and closer to the days when nanobots can be taken via a pill and give all of us a much needed tune up from the inside.

Hey John, I would suggest you take down your "new vid every Sunday" off your logo. We all get busy with life or other interests and putting out a video when you can will be appreciated but don't want to get peoples expectations up to that level.

Are you sure it's not meant to be pronounced Py-Rat, as in Pirate? "Pirate Rum" would seem to make more sense than 'Prat Rum'

No, John, it's called just like it says, "Pyrat." Dave, he wasn't saying "prat," but "pih * RAT" (short a).

John, If you are age 40 or more, you need to get an eye exam. Typically at age 40, the muscle in your eyes start to lose the ability to refocus on close objects. Ask your doctor about prescription computer glasses. Otherwise, you can get bifocals with no prescription on the upper portion. I know it sucks but just do it. You'll thank me later.

Prescription glasses created based on 1 viewing distance of 2-3 feet. Your eye doctor will set up a special eye chart at the distance from your eyes to your computer monitor. (Measure that distance before going in) I spend most of my day in front of a computer screen. Using single vision lenses set for monitor viewing distance for hours at a time is a godsend. Reduces eye strain and I can read large spreadsheets with ease. I've had them for 6 months now and I can never go back. It sucks getting old, but you don't have to struggle to see. You just need the right glasses.

Why don't you get your *eyes lasered!* John to correct your vision!? You already probably got the caps! but the problem might be that the voltage I think you said it was 160 volts is a bit close to it's working voltage so a 250v or higher would be better Why don't you put *sponsor* on your channel, to sell your t-shirts and other bric-a-brac you could sell the mini arcade games there as well. And I was just thinking maybe you could do on the "sponsor" a swap shop! on Arcade and pinball? Something I've not seen anywhere? Is there such a thing anyway? Where's that rum from! you should get a cuddly toy of Donkey Kong holding the barrel on top of the arcade just to set it off

Kyle and Vax, he's not saying it like "prat." He's saying "pih * RAT" (short a). But let me ask you about what you think it should be. You say it's supposed to be pronounced "pirate." In a pronunciation key, "pirate" = "pi (long i) * ra (long a) * tee," so it looks like the word "pirate" but is pronounced differently (with the e not being silent), which is what you're saying when you say that it's pronounced "pirate." Right?
