They actually considered using Tagawa in the new reboot. Sure he's older, but he still has an amazing, powerful presence. Him reprising that role would have been the icing on the cake.

The guy who played Kano as an Australian - from memory - was actually a British actor who pretended to be an Australian to get more roles. I remember he died and his dad was quoted saying "I don't know why he pretended to be an Australian"

Everyone who loves Christopher Lambert hamming it up needs to watch Mean Guns. Super grimy B-movie with a Battle Royale type of plot with Lambert as a drugged-out hitman. It's Lambert at his most Lambert, wonderful performance (rest of the movie is decent too).

I was in a VHS rental store when I was a wee lad holding Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, ready to rent it as I loved the first one. The OG nerd behind the desk very passionately told me how awful it was. I trusted his opinion and rented Critters instead. I will always remember him and his sound advice.

The song kicks you right in the taint and doesn't stop.

The edit was flawless victory

the two fights which are generally considered the best in the film are Johnny's fight in hell with scorpion and Liu Kang's fight with reptile in outworld. These also happen to be the only fights in the film to be choreographed by Robin Shou (the actor of liu kang). after initial screenings it was generally mentioned that there weren't enough fights so they decided to reshoot two more fight scenes to beef up pre-existing 'fights', but couldn't get the original choreographer. Shou, who had previous work in fight scenes stepped in - initially the scorpion fight would have ended with Johnny killing his weird dragon rope thing and kicking him into a portal. The reptile 'fight' also would have ended with the CG creature kicked into the stone statue. Just goes to show that the film could have been so much better had they got Shou to choreograph all of it.

Totally agree. The scorpion fight in particular is very well done and not given enough credit. With the only thing ruining it is some of the over the top moves. The reptile fight - best intro. The sounds definitely contribute to this scene as well. With such a decent budget, they really should have got Donnie yen on it. Flash point last fight scene - one of the best fight scenes ever

What I've learned throughout these videos is that Ben thinks James is Christian Bale nodding while Mason is Kermit the Frog nodding. I have learned nothing else in my life.

The best Paul WS Anderson film and the best video game adaptation. Which are not huge triumphs in fairness.

MK is ten times better than the Lara Kroft movie James' seems to love. That movie was so forgettable. To borrow a phrase from the boys: at least MK was a big swing and a miss, and fell into the so bad it's good pile of movies. Lara Kroft was just a nothing movie.

This edit was off the goddamn charts!!! The theme song bit had me in tears 🤣🤣🤣 rewound it like 4 times, each time laughing harder as James says “just comin’ at ya” with the sideways hail.

I used to work at a place that did laser tag. In the arena, they had a small playlist of songs which was used for years. Techno Syndrome was on that playlist. Honestly, I didn't really mind hearing it every day. With the bass booming in your chest, it's hard not to feel pumped while watching kids wipe out at the bottom of a ramp you told them not to run down.

Can we just talk about how freakin incredible the editing is on this video? So many of the jokes are just chefs kiss brilliant, my favourite are the DBZ joke (works on so many levels) and the Gal Gadot joke (you know the one hahaha)

Can't wait for the Annihilation video. Btw I think that dude that gets beat up by Goro is called Art. I'm not sure of he's got a full name, but I really hope it's Marshall Art.

It's an awesome film! It gets a lot of hate because it's Mortal Kombat and MK is associated with violence but this movie is pretty clean. However, if they aimed for a higher age bracket, no one would have been able to come and watch it; after all it was the 12-15 kids, perhaps even younger that were hyping up those games not adults. They knew what they were doing really.

The editing on this video is top tier!

The guy who played Kano was from England, Croydon or something like that but put on an "Australian accent" in pretty much everything he did. He claimed to actually be Australian until his parents said that was bs and he's English.

Best part is that the game devs have always made Kano Aussie in every game after the films release; clearly it worked.

The Casting for Shang Tsung in the 1995 adaptation is hands down, THE GREATEST SINGLE CASTING CHOICE in Gaming adaptation history. The Line Delivery,the slithery creepiness in which he played the character, YOUR SOUL IS MINE,combined with him doing the the Martial Arts aspect of it enough to sell it is one of the reasons this movie holds up in a positive light after all these years. My main issue is,and I dont know who to blame,i think it's this movie, people use this movie to let Paul W.S Anderson keep making shitty gaming adaptations. Raul Julia falls to second only due to the fact that his Shakespearean performance and that Classic one liner(you know the one) make up for the fact he wasnt a Martial Artist.

"Destroy All Expectations" - A rather fitting headline for MK Annihilation lol.

Mortal kombat, ninja turtles, and power rangers all went on tour. The 90s was all about martial arts live on stage.

I can confirm there was a Mortal Kombat on stage. Went when I was a kid and saw it. I am now 32 and my parents still give me shit for making them take me to see "that stupid video game play." Flawless victory.

I'm clearly not the only one coming back to see Mario rock out to the Mortal Kombat song. Make it short. Or a long. An 8 hour loop!

If you watch carefully you’ll see that the Liu Kang and Shang Tsung fight is broken up into rounds so when Liu Kang says, “flawless victory” he’s referring to the round and he DID get a flawless victory in that one.

Adding the MK theme *to ANYTHING improves it by 10000000000 percent.

Guy, did any of you go clubbing or bar hopping during 95 to early 97. Lord of Acid's Mortal Kombat was everywhere. It was playing every 30 minutes. Great for grinding on the dance floor. That song got me laid so many times, it was my Marvin G Let's Get It On.
