To be fair, graphics peaked in 2013 with Crysis. It's been nothing but diminishing returns ever since. Smoke and particle effects are the reason people need newer graphics cards. Disable them and even a 1080 or a PS3 can run the current generation of games with no problem.

Or the wrinkle maps on the face or any of the high poly geometry. For reference uncharted 3 Nathan drake had less than a quarter of the facial geometry and none of the performance capture wrinkle maps etc. Not to mention cloth physics etc

@@jolynejamms6262 lmao you goofy. That puts down the massive amount of work put into developments over the last decade. Legit just go look at all the features in 5.3 of Unreal. Just to name one thing, Nanite is probably the largest development for me. Being able to have an entire game run without LOD's (Level of Detail), aka the textures & models for different distances, is incredible. An example is from Unreal Sensei video on Unreal 5.1. He had an active scene open with 100k trees in it. Mind you, this was in 5.1, almost a year ago. There's been some PHAT upgrades since then optimization, features, and QOL features. That's another thing, the barrier to entry is much smaller now more than ever to be able to create games that'd have been AAA+ lvl like a decade ago.
