16:58 Looks like Bethany missed the part of Scorpion not being Hanzo Hasashi anymore. It's Kuai-Liang now that is Scorpion, and his brother Bi-Han is Sub-Zero once again, and is now also the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. So THIS Scorpion DOES look up to Sub-Zero as the Grandmaster, technically.

@@tedgonzalez985 although there is a mid fight dialogue where Smoke says for the shirai ryu but that doesn't confirm smoke is Hanzo, could be anyone. I imagine Scorpion and Smoke leaving Lin kuei and forming The Shirai ryu

I have to say whoever is voicing as Shang Tsung is doing amazing, I thought it was Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa voicing him, turns out it was someone else

For those who don't know this was a test designed by Liu kang. He was testing Raiden & Kung Lao's fighting skills to see if they were ready to be recruited by him to face a greater evil. This was all explained in a previous trailer. That is why you see Liu kang sitting there in disguise watching. Notice how he didn't interfere or do anything when the lin kuei attacked. The Lin Kuei were not trying to kill raiden or kung Lao they were simply testing them for Liu kang. You can actually see what happens after this in a previous trailer. Where Liu kang with both sub-zero and scorpion by his side says to raiden and kung Lao you are ready. So again, This was all just a test by Liu kang.

@@gaz3606 No OBVIOUS that wasn't part of Liu kang's test. Either Smoke wasn't aware of it or just lost control. I don't know. But if you watch the official gameplay debut trailer you can see that Liu kang is in the same place, Madam bo restaurant, still wearing the same disguise and with Sub-zero & Scorpion by his side tells Raiden and Kung Lao you are now ready. You can CLEARLY see that happens right afterwards, After Kung Lao has defeated Sub- zero. Also if you pay attention to when Kung Lao is fighting Sub-zero you can CLEARLY see that sub-zero wasn't even really trying because if you ACTUALLY pay attention to the fight you can see sub-zero had many opportunities to kill kung Lao if he really wanted to but held back.

I feel like it makes sense that Liu knew that the Lin Kuei would attempt to extort Madame Bo. So he showed up, and used that as a test for Raisen and Kung Lao. Either or could be true. It all depends on whether the Lin Kuei are still criminals/assassins in this timeline, regardless of their service to Earthrealm

Grateful for a peaceful life. Seems like being a god was never what the original Raiden wished to be, but did anyway as his duty. Kinda nice he gets to be normal in this timeline. Also, raidens scheming and cleverness from his original incarnation still shines through with that bet.

just to clear this up, in the new timeline, Hanzo isnt scorpion anymore. instead, Bi han, the og sub zero who died in the original timeline who became noob saibot, is once again sub zero in the new timeline, but is now the grandmaster as well. scorpion is now kuai Liang, Bi hans younger brother, who became zub zero in the og timeline after Bi han was killed by Scorpion. Smoke is their adopted brother, he was an orphan from a destroyed village.

You've got MOST of this right. Smoke's bio doesn't say anything about a destroyed village. instead, the LK grandmaster adopted him after his clan killed his parent(s) when they accidentally trespassed onto LK lands during a hunt. It says the grandmaster was ashamed of what his warriors had done and took in Smoke as a result. This is all from his bio on the official MK1 website.

It's been confirmed that at this early part of the story, Kung Lao does not yet have his bladed hat, which means that he can't do any of the special moves or combos which involve the hat; the same thing goes for Raiden's abilities, as they are also absent in the beginning. They get those later in the story.

The move that Sub does as a Kameo where he coats his partner in ice is a projectile defense move (the ice armor protects against projectile attacks); but, as I mentioned earlier, Kung Lao doesn't yet have his hat, and Raiden doesn't yet have his lightning abilities, which means that they don't have projectile attacks yet... which, in turn, means that those ice armorings are entirely pointless in that match.

I wonder how they’re gonna give Raiden and Kung Lao their abilities. I like that they didn’t start them off with it they had to earn/obtain it

Yes it is Kronika, Kronika is back just like Geras, the head and the eyes give it away, and it makes sense that she knows about Shang Tsung's potential being witnessed it. Also Scorpion, Sub-zero aren't the ones from MK11 Sub-Zero is the original one from back in the days, Bi-Han the elder brother of the later sub-zero, who was a bit of dick that now in MK1 still is and being the leader.

This game is definitely off to a good start.

Even in his bio it says that he took pride in knowing his brother would take up the mantle of grandmaster, so yes, Scorpion would let Sub-Zero be grandmaster.

The rumors are the woman that came to shang T'aung is Kronica the main villain from Mk11. Which everybody hated because she was poorly written and delivered as a character and especially as a main villain. So everyone is hoping it's not her lol. If you look at Kronica from Mk11 and look at the women that came to Shang t'sung they look very similar. There is even a part in Mk11 that is very similar to this. In Mk11 Jax was down and out and then Kronica appeared to jax and was even saying practically the same thing to jax that She said here to Shang T'sung.

It's but all guaranteed its Kronika, there's no way its not her. Still, I'm reserving judgement until the full story mode is out but I can already hear the collective "ughhhh, her again? Didn't Liu Kang smash her into glass?" Guess she was right, you can't kill a Titan and now she's out to muck up Liu Kang's New Era. Only question is without the hourglass, how powerful is she really?

Personally, I don't think she was a bad character. I just think she was poorly written and executed. I think.if she was written better she could have been a good character but that's just my opinion.

@@zexalcommander7036 I agree. When i first heard that she was a titan i was excited for Mk11 and then i got the game and the story mode was horrible in my opinion. Not just Kronica was a TERRIBLE villain but after MKX there was a lot of things that i wanted to see that never happened. For an example the mystery woman in Jade's mk9 ending. I know now that she's jade's mother but we didn't know that until Mk11 came out. There was so much hype and theories around her. Who she is ? And what she could do iin Mk11. It was such a missed opportunity in my opinion. Also Noob Saibot. In mk9 he was kicked in a soulnado by nigjtwolf and people were very curious what happened to him. Was he dead? Is he still alive? So many theories about him. Like was he saved by the elder gods and made into their champion like Scorpion was in mk decepticon ? Another missed opportunity in my opinion. Then there was the story of Kenshi and takeda going after the read dragons and finding Taven like it was in both of their endings in MKX. So many missed opportunities.

That's Kronika, Scorpion isn't Hanzo Hasashi, Scorpion is Kuai Liang, which is the second Sub-Zero, in the original story.

Nice reaction guys, great start to the game. This is all 100% a set up by Liu and madam Bo to test Raiden and Kung, the Lin kuei guys have already been recruited by Liu and based on what we’ve seen and heard both scorpion and smoke are good honorable dudes, sub not so much tho lol. In a pre fight dialogue between Kung and Liu Kung asked Liu if he could be involved when they test Raiden’s sister, Liu then says the exam scenarios are up to madam bo. So pretty clear madam bo trains people and then here her Liu and the Lin kuei were all apart of this to test Raiden and Kung, they obviously pass the test and Liu says you’re worthy of joining my team of champions in the first gameplay trailer. After this I assume they then go to johnny’s mansion and recruit Johnny and Kenshi because we saw Liu Sub and Scorp along with johnny and Kenshi in his mansion in the first gameplay trailer. So basically Liu is assembling a team of champions that consists of Sub/smoke/scorp/Raiden/Kung/Johnny/Kenshi, sub is definitely gonna be the odd man out later in the story tho because he’s very power hungry and a dickhead so I don’t think he’ll be a part of the team throughout the game, he’ll probably switch sides after someone like Shang tsung gets in his ear and convinces, prob says it’ll lead him to a bunch of power and glory or some shit like that, even tho sub and scorpion are brothers they’re definitely gonna be on opposite sides and have issues with each other because scorp is a good honorable dude and smoke will be on scorp’s side as well.

Nice job. Also Smoke and Tobey Maguire Spider-Man have something in common which involves beating up old ladies. Anyways, this first part of story mode looks beautiful and Kung Lao RULES

So Kronika is Back and and in a twisted way makes sense yeah I would’ve liked it more if it was Onaga or Blaze and I’m aware she’s hated by Fans but like it or not MK11 will always be Semi Canon because the Fire God’s Actions she will embrace the Truth Potential and Evil of characters he neutralize like how much of a Gifted Snake Shang Tsung is and many others as the more Good is there the more Evil Grows, Alan Lee does a Fantastic Shang Tsung with his Evil Smile being so Creepy as he has one of the Best Mememable Expressions in the Franchise, I like how Kung Lao and Raiden are more like Brothers with different points of Views, and the Lin Kuei appearing might be a Test of The God of Fire, I’m hoping Jade is at least the last Character but now it’s more like to be Kronika, plus is strange Shang Tsung and Shujinko have the Faces in Reverse.

A leak from year ago came out and they got a lot of things right from the reveal so far. One of them said "damashi will guide shang tsung through the story". This might suggest that kronika is onaga in disguise. Which make sense since the first thing kronika did was compliment shang tsung's disguise as old man.

I understand when fans take it too far but most fans are very peaceful and thoughtful about wanting their favorite characters come back. People hate geras and kronika returning because they originate from mk11 which is notorious for having a terrible and i mean terrible story and writing. But i’m excited to see where they take both characters even if I personally hate Kronika but i don’t think it’s even Kronika at all. I think it’s Onaga in disguise guiding Shang as it’s been leaked a year ago. Also the Jade movement makes complete sense because most characters in M1K are edenian and related somehow to Kitana and Outworld except for Jade when she is a countess now is strangely weird.

Watch the channel called History behind the warrior. He has made videos about the lore of Mortal kombat universe and it's characters.. I highly recommend giving his channel & videos a watch if you really want to know the lore of Mortal kombat universe.

I'm looking forward to the story, but I'm really we see some interesting twists in terms of characters actually being interesting. We already see Reptile and Baraka seeming like they will be the mistreated individuals due to their genetic/infection respectively, that are good guys in this timeline. Would love if we get a better Mileena and Kitana story since it seems like Sindel is good again and appears to love both her daughters. Would be great to see Mileena start off scared because of her transformation making her hard to trust anybody, but eventually she comes around. I remember seeing a fan comic of Mileena taking on the mantle of Kitana but not as a fake disguise like in past series, but to actually honor her dead sister she loves. Not saying Kitana dies here, but would be nice to see a strong sisterly bond with the two in this timeline.

If it hasn't been mentioned in the comments, Madam Bo is this new Timeline "Bo" Rai Cho.

So I don't know if it's confirmed or not, but I believe Madame Bo is supposed to be the New Era version of Bo Rai Cho. Bo Rai Cho was a character from the 3D era MK games, and he was Liu Kang and Kung Lao's master. He was also a master of the Drunken style of Kung Fu. I believe he was also in MKX.

Kung Lao has been very cocky in most mks, but he didn't get a lot of screen time.

its not corfirmed but judging by the looks and voice and dlc story of mk11 and mk11 main story i think its Kronika main antagonist from mk11 im 99.9% sure to be honest

This first chapter is looking cool but I was hoping the character specific chapter system would've been dropped. As it really restricts the story and whenever the chapter ends, it usually means that the character you played as will never win another fight throughout the rest of the story.

It seems interesting to witness this gameplay/story line starting point as it brings some stuff to the players to witness Lui’s New Era for MK as I can’t wait to see more or maybe play it over at my cousin’s house as he got a MK collection from the Uncle. 😄 Also there is a video called “The Complete Mortal Kombat Story” by The LeaderBoard. As they cover the beginning of MK to MK 11 Ultimate. So maybe give them a checking if you want more story till later MK1 2023 have a new story to follow.

In the previous timeline, the Shiray Ryu (Scorpion's crew) was a branch of the Lin Kuei (Sub-Zero and Smoke's crew), but they separated from each other, apparantly in Lord Liu Kang's New Era, they never separated, or at least not for now, they all look younger than in previous games.

Same as Bethany I am also a Shang Tsung hater 🤣 I didn't even pre-ordered the game cuz I don't want him unIocked (but I will see him in the story mode tho) 😄 ..but he is good as a villain (he's good at doing viIIainous things) 😄 And usually the best viIIain characters (I include actors from the movies / tv shows doing a role of a villain too) ..are the ones who are hated by a fairly big number of peopIe. Let's take for example Joffrey from Game of Thrones. He was villainous (and annoying too) and many people disIiked him ..but that young actor played quite well the role of a viIIain.

Might I recommend the4thsnake he does alot of mortal kombat lore inside of his MK9 - MK11 critique, but mind that he really doesn’t like this era of MK cause it ruins everyone’s character, as well as the injustice series, idk if both of you would like it but it’s there

"Sure, you're a victim." Well this particular Shang Sung, while a complete scammer, he never did worst than lie. This Shang Sung was very much punished for ALL the previous incarnation of himself that He has no controlled with. Liu KAng just messed his story/life up hoping that he would not turn bad which seem to have failed as of this video. Maybe help make better would have been the right way at it. But who knows.

Yh Liu is defo a lot more grey of a character this time, which is cool. He made Shang a powerless salesman. He also likely tried to depower Shao Khan by making him frail and sickly as a child. Shinnok likely doesn't even exist 💀. Liu nerfed all of his prior enemies hence why it makes sense for Onaga (someone this Liu didn't face, to be the Big Bad).

Shang Tsung deprives others of what they need to survive, and he does so purely for his own selfish benefit. He could have become a legitimate (if mundane) tea seller or restaurateur like Madam Bo, or a real doctor and saved lives (his previous timeline's sorcery was able to create Mileena and heal Kabal in MK9 and cooperate with Fujin [who used Jinsei essence] to restore Sindel to proper life, so he does have the ability to achieve good things), but instead he exploited the desperate and gullible. When the farmer said his daughter died despite Shang Tsung's fake cure, notice how Shang chuckled before denying the accusation, and he never apologized - he has no empathy for the death of an innocent. He's still as evil as ever.
