Another MPE single means another cover, so here's Andy's delightfully nasty solo from Lost in a Starless Aeon! The leads on this album are scorching so far, and I'm excited to see what else "Seven” has in store. This one's a very nice blend of beautiful note choice but still nearly constant shred, which made it quite a challenge! Reminds me a lot of Andy’s solo album, great harmony decisions and some classic Gillion tapping craziness. I particularly love the ascending pentatonic tapping pattern, really creative use of fretboard unisons.
Also included is a scrolling tab detailing my transcription of the solo, for those of you who'd like to try it yourself! I'm curious how I may have approached things differently compared to Andy; I always try to stay as true to the original as I possibly can, but with no video out yet it's hard to say. Regardless, another wonderful solo from Andy and I hope you guys enjoy my take on it, and please pre-order the album!

    Thanks! Nope, I'm just connecting my laptop to the Yamaha as a speaker to play out loud. Tone is coming from my DAW.

  • @Forboz

    That's absolutely awesome ! How do you obtain this tone ? I really like it !

  • @ChrisJonesGuitarist

    @ChrisJonesGuitarist

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks dude! As for my tone, basically I try to use as little gain as possible and make the mids stand out, especially low mids. Too much of the bass frequencies can make it sound boomy, and too much of the treble frequencies can make it sound harsh and too bright, so be careful with those.

  • @ChrisJonesGuitarist

    @ChrisJonesGuitarist

    Yeah I could do that! I’m thinking of doing quick tab videos of riffs and leads from songs in addition to solo videos, is that something you think you’d be interested in?

  • @ChristopherMcLarenExperience

    @ChristopherMcLarenExperience

    @@ChrisJonesGuitarist I think that would be a really good idea man, just give people really sick material to learn, you be the judge. I do the same, I got a sick riff series where I teach any riff that I think is like one of the best pieces of material ever. If you did you videos like these and find they don't get your channel much attention then obviously you could drop it. But for me personally the only things I'm really interested in learning is the intro to this track, and the lead intro to a song called Frontlines By Soulfly, as both of these excerpts are too hard for me to figure out by ear, at least at the moment.

  • @ChrisJonesGuitarist

    Cool, well thanks dude! I appreciate the perspective and I’ll have to check out what kind of lessons you’ve got going on your channel!

  • @ChristopherMcLarenExperience

    @@ChrisJonesGuitarist Yeah dude I hope your channel does well, you can play guitar better than me at the moment, my lessons probably wouldn't be of any use to you haha. As I say I'd love a tab of this track's intro if you ever feel like doing it for a video for it, you could even call it "Greatest melodic tapping lick" or something, if you don't want to use the same Lost In a Starless Aeon name again. It literally sounds like one of the best things I've ever heard, I told Andy this and he was thankful for the appreciation.
