This is really beautiful and epic, probably the strongest song on the album in my estimation. Almost would be in place in The Third Man or some other Film Noir masterpiece, and has a balalaika resonance in the sound. I happen to know someone called Ruth as well who definitely is not a John which gives it a little extra piquancy ! I like Morrissey when he's yearning, epic, quasi operatic and wretched from the horrors of life, but still struggling on, that's what I relate to most.

The rebirth of vinyl LPs with their large covers provides a canvas for further artistic expression. If you've got it why not use it? Perhaps Morrissey wants us to focus on the music and not on extraneous matters. But in my opinion a wasted opportunity.
