We honor our flag the way we do to show America that it doesn't matter if you are a Libtard or a dumbcrat, we will protect no matter the cost. Our brothers across the pond feel the same way I know this because I have served with some of you. We all fight for the same cause, sometimes we protect you and sometimes you protect us. It's a mutual silent respect that only warriors understand.

Retreat was at 1630, and "To the Colors" was played on a record player, through the loudspeaker system. I still get goose bumps when I hear it!Thanks to all you who served, whatever the branch!

When I worked as a civilian in Station HQ on an RAF Station the flagstaff was right in front of my office. So I used to see the guard raising the flag each morning. Any service personnel within sight of it when it went up had to halt and salute. They used to blow a whistle when it went up and anyone caught not paying respects was in trouble lol! So much nicer with a bugle call. Which is how we did it when I was in the Army Reserve on camp.

Thank you for this. I remember when I got the opportunity to perform Morning Colors representing Troop 316 at Catalina Island's Boyscout Camp Cherry. There I learned how to swim like a seal in 'cold' water, how to start a fire, fish, fly-fish, basic health & rescue, shoot a rifle, and a shotgun, how to navigate with the stars, and night diving. It was one of the best experiences of my life. It's something that schooling can't recreate and teach in a classroom.

Outstanding. It is considered a privilege to be part of the morning and evening flag detail. ps: "To The Colors" As bugler for my Boy Scout troop, I used to play this at morning flag raising on camp-outs with other troops. It was my favorite call. In the US Military, if outdoors when you heard this call being played, you were to stop, come to attention, face the flag, and salute (or salute in the direction of the call if the flag was not visible). You were to hold the salute until the call was completed. This is still a standing order in all branches of US military service.

OUTSTANDING! I've done morning and evening colors at Camp Lejeune Building One (by the traffic circle on Holcomb Blvd aka Swoop Circle) on a number of occasions during 1996 and 1997. @ kenneedsmusic I do agree with you as this does seem like a slow raise. We also ran the flag up as fast as possible but it was the opposite during evening colors. We always made sure the flag was clipped on properly so we didn't raise the flag upside down. We were told the Sgt. Major of MCB Camp Lejeune enjoyed watching morning colors so yeah there was some added to motivation to not f*#k shit up! And yes I still find myself whistling morning colors to this day. Semper Fi

Hey. Cool video. I was on active duty from 1995 to 1999. I was 0311, and ended up with 3/5 when I got to the Fleet. From what I can remember, Area 52 was where MCT/SOI were. I can also remember that some guys who graduated from boot camp with me got to the Fleet a few weeks or so before I did, because as soon as they got to SOI they went to their training company. So it wasn't everybody. Just some of us went to either mess duty or guard duty for a few weeks. I, too, ended up on guard duty.

This is the first time that I've ever seen Colors on a "Crank" pole, I think it kind of takes away from it.........by the way I forgot where 52 area is, is that San Onofre? I was a Corpsman at 62 area in the early 70s

Thanks for your service Josh. For some dumb reason I loved hearing reveille every morning, to me it was the start of a new day and new adventure. Even when I was in Vietnam.

Does this seem like a slow raise to anyone? I have done colors hundreds of times. We always put that flag up as fast as possible.

The U.S. Navy started this tradition, reveille is played to wake men from sleep, it is not play usually played to raise the flag. Reveille can be played but it is usually the Nation Anthem , and flag raising and is usually at 8 o'clock in the morning and lowering is at sunset and retreat is played.
