MORECAMBE

Morecambe is a 7-minute documentary short film showing the relationship some of the people of Morecambe have with their town. The turbulent history of it and the prospect of The Eden Project landing soon on their coast.
This project is a collaboration for one of the modules of the MA in Film & Television from Falmouth University. It was produced by Tim Fay, Ganesh Thapa and Seb Morgan as part of their course, which involves collaboration.
Over 4 hours of footage filming 20 interviews in 4 days were recorded. This ongoing project will become a longer version to be shown outside of university as well.
Thank you!

One of the major downfalls of Morecambe and the surrounding towns was when Lancaster Council took control..... The majority of any project funding was spent in and on Lancaster... Morecambe and the surrounding towns and villages were and still are neglected by Lancaster City Council.

I think there's a larger picture too because Morecambe is not an isolated case, look at other seaside/coastal towns in the UK, also look at other rural areas, part of it is that towns that were 'a place to go' like Morecambe have struggled to figure out what people want from them now the annual holiday is of an exotic affair, also combined with that it's had the same problems that any other small town in the UK has had, a high street killed by Amazon and 'all in one place' retail parks that you drive to and spend all day in. The changes in the last 40 years have come fast, true that if Lancaster spent money in Morecambe it could have adapted, but Lancaster has it's own probems, in the 80s it was pretty dead and it's only the University that has kicked life into their economy, sure over the bridge here in Morecambe we could benefit from that too, maybe that's about to happen, I'm nervous about who the winners and losers may be when/if Eden happens, but optomistic about Morecambe

For the sake of Morecambe, I do so hope that the Eden Project comes to fruition and as quickly as possible. It did not bode well when The Project declined to make a comment.

Great film; i thought it was a terrible loss to the town when the former Frintierland theme park was closed. Anither historic amusement psrk demolished, including a classic wooden roller coaster, Texás Tornado (Cyclone). I visited in Summer 1987 but very regrettably never ventured inside as the coaster didn't look very attractive driving past the park boundaries. Apparently it was sunk into the landscape so its height was deceving. I've seen recent park revivsl plans in rhe media. Hopefully they will come to fruition to bring much needed tourism back to the area.
