In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

Yes, they're so unexpectedly a perfect balance. What cracks me up is how their 'characters' and their selves continually bleed over until you can't quite tell what's 'real' and what's purely acting, because there's some of each. Having a few of the contestants be their close friends helps muddy those waters as well. It's astonishing how well it works, and I think that's a big part of the magic, honestly. On paper, it sounds like that blurred line would be a crashing failure, but in person, that's what makes it electric.

Judi is magnetic, because 90% of the time it seems like she really doesn't want to be there and maybe we're going to get a Preston on Buzzcocks moment. And that makes those few moments when she breaks character and laughs or smiles so good.

Best. Cast. Ever. 💗 Loved their chemistry, their teamwork, and everything they brought individually made a delightful whole. I can hardly name a favorite, because I loved them all, and what they each brought out of Greg and Alex was so fresh and funny. This season just elevated. (Bridget slayed, though. Getting the best of Greg, hilariously so, and unintentionally pushing Alex to limits we've never seen before, just by being herself - such an intriguing combination of sweetly dim, and brutally sharp. She's a wonder.)
