More Progess And We Are Still At It

Mike has been making great improvements on the off road camper. Shawn got a lot done on the 4 door and getting a little frustrated with the motor. But over all Mike and Shawn have been making great progress on their projects.

    I would suspect spark plug wires and firing order from the way it sounds, but start with the basics and check compression first. If compression is good on all 8, then use a timing light and check every spark plug wire to make sure it's firing. Also double check for any vacuum leaks. When you finally figure it out I bet it'll be something simple, just a pain to find out what it is. Good luck!

    Nice job on the roof patches Mike. By using both sealer and rivets, you lessen the chance of the patch moving during transport and cracking and leaking. Going down the road, these campers just flex and warp and vibrate like crazy. Never ride in a moving camper. It's nutty.

    This. Also is that a 454 TBI or 350 TBI? The 350 TBI is smaller and does not match the factory adapter correctly. Leaves a big air leak. I'm assuming it's a factory 454 TBI truck since you have the adapter.

    The injectors are spraying way too much fuel into the motor at idle. They are probably sticking open and dumping fuel into the motor. If you pull the plugs, they should be wet with fuel. You can probably have a local mechanic that has an injector cleaning setup disconnect the fuel line and run injector cleaning fluid through them to clean off the varnish build up. If you plan to run fuel injection no matter what (ie, atomic), you should run a 195 thermostat in the motor, because all modern fuel injection setups use 200 degrees as the turn on point for closed loop operation. If the fuel injection doesn't see this, it will never go into closed loop, which means it will run full rich. The result is your fuel mileage will REALLY drop, the motor will never run right and the cylinders will wear prematurely (excess fuel washing the oil off of the cylinder walls). I know the tendency is to run a 180 (or 160) thermostat given where you live to keep the motor as cool as possible, but it is a bad idea because the fuel injection system won't go into closed loop.

    @Shawn Is that the 454 throttle body,? Because big block and small block use different injectors. And i don't know which throttle body adapter you have but some do have a passage way threw that would cause a vacuum leak , if not plugged. And Never getting down to proper idle is likely a vacuum leak. Slow to get down to idle could possibly be a failing or dirty IAC (idle air control) motor. If it helps, think about it as a computer-controlled vacuum leak. You might try removing it and see if the tip is dirty, clean just the tip of it with a brush and some carb cleaner, but be very careful to not get carb cleaner down inside the IAC or you'll kill it. Also be careful not to move the position of the pintle (tip.) Look inside the TBI where it goes and clean any crud from the IAC seat inside the TBI. You can watch the IAC work while it's installed, by looking down at the TBI unit with the air cleaner off. My next suspect might be the throttle position sensor - TPS.

  • @MichaelSmith-jv7zm

    I just watched the end. There is a big possibility that there is small block injectors in it. Even the ECU is different between small block and big block. Well the chips are different and can easily be changed. Wrong injectors can ruin an engine, and so can't wiring that's junk and cutting down amperage.

  • @bradywilliams2666

    @bradywilliams2666

    25 күн бұрын

    It's not only the injectors that are different. The 454 TBI is has bigger bores. 2" compared to IIRC 1.5". So a 350 TBI doesn't work on a factory 454 adapter.
