Ret feels terrible atm. At least exo spam made it feel like it was an actual spec, I dont evem know how they can fix slow weapon ret.

Deep prot needs some big buffs to holy shield on the number of blocks, lets just make it like the T1 set bonus minus the extra damage, then we can be the blocking maxhine we bloody well should be. Personally i feel pallys feel better using SP, more thematic i reckon. Increase the scaling for everything boom not just a weird warrior now. Just my thoughts

Prot is close to being perfect by reverting the change from SP to AP with Holy Shield, and increasing the spell damage coefficient from 5% to 30-40% so Holy Shield deals more damage. Or, making it scale with block value instead of SP, would synergize well with ShoR. But we need AP since our main damage comes from melee hits, SoM, HoTR, and ShoR. Additionaly a 10% AP scaling to ShoR can be a nice addition. Also make Art of War work with Avenging Shield, it's a great ability and we want to use it more.

agreed about avengers shield, and i think holy shield need to give both SP and AP. so we can use the domage reduction CD and not be locked in seath of light. making defence deep prot main stat.

Nah, I rather they increase SP scaling of holy shield, consecrate and add a bit of sp scaling to sanctuary.

I love the 50% domage cd that passivly double the sp of holy shield. Seath of light is a ret rune now. On ptr, i was loosing 40sp out of 350. And not full def

If most of our abilities scaled/scaled well with AP, sure. But HoTR and ShoR don’t atm So even tho you had more SP, you probably had less DPS than a ret prot set BUT, deep prot still works fine and holds great threat on the ptr. It would just be stronger if it was AP HS, not SP HS

100% normal ret tree does more then deep prot. Outside of hammer and mellee, the rest scale of sp too.​@@JurdiJD

Dep ret whith out holy shield is bether for dps anyway. So both option can exist IF we need domage reduction in dificultie 3. Dont parse deep prot for sure.

@@lifeisatrip8993 I don’t think ret is in a bad spot but I do understand slow wep enjoyers frustrations for it atm. Enjoy it as much as you can!

Ret feels so underpowered especially if you’re not a fan of the seal twist play style. One idea I had was to add in either a rework of an existing rune or a new rune entirely to make it to were when the paladin casts a damaging judgment it would have a proc chance to empower crusader strike into Templar strike. This would add in a proc into our rotation that would feel good to press and it wouldn’t make us the god Teir dps but it would def close the gap especially if you don’t wanna seal twist. What do y’all think?

at this point i think expecting new abilities would be asking too much. Both fast exo and seal twisting are performing nearly the same atm.

@@JurdiJD I see your point and I think I’d have to agree. This close to launch and how much goes into coding especially with all the other projects going on (Cata and TWW). I don’t mind the exo spam just wished we could go back to slow hard hitting weapons (albeit you can if you seal twist but that’s not my cup of tea lol). But thanks for the reply! You're sad bc there's no AP scaling bc u'd like to play sword and board DPS or bc it's bad for tanks? Isnt spell power better because of consacration + Holy shield damage proc + exo? So most of the damage will be out of that while threat fillers so u won't drop thread would be hammer of right and shield slam, I'm abit confused on how to take this. Lemme know ur thoughts!

the coefficient from cons holy shield isnt good. very minimal to notice. Exo sure, but the other 2 no. Our main sword and board runes, HoTR and ShoR, do not scale with SP.

The scaling is terrible, and even if it were good, AP would still be better than SP for prot.

They should commit to these decisions abandon AP on prot, they're right its less thematic. Either change all abilities to scale off SP or make the malleable conversion give a bit of both SP and AP/str like mental dexterity but based on more than just defense. Seal of vengeance based on spell damage would be good. Improve their mana regen from guarded by the light and by blocking from imp sanctuary. Also just buff guarded by the light to have an offensive component to compete with art of war maybe reducing CD of avengers shield. Can you imagine the complaints if art of war ret pallies reduced cd of avengers shield? The problem with paladin runes feels like too much flexibility where it ends up every paladin takes the same runes because there's always 1 best option Better rune setup for a hybrid is like shaman and of course druid. Then have few utility slots or runes where they serve different purposes.

That's why I said seal of vengeance as a better seal for prot instead of SoM. ShOR doesn't scale off AP in the notes. Hotr can be changed. I'm saying in the long run for the overall design it would be better that prot paladins gear and abilities focus on SP not AP. If anything they can also do both like what mental dexterity does, give both. So defense gives SP and then SP gives a portion of strength. Mental dexterity has int give AP and SP give AP.

​@@JurdiJDpossibly, but I'd expect a lot more class changes in the next 2 weeks. It's crunch and blizzards development has been known as a madhouse by former founders. They could take a less dramatic approach and save it for next ptr when we get a shoulder rune. Depending on their gearing, this is a good direction for the long run but feels bad because it's an immediate nerf to output that we're already used to

Sounds like a good idea, its just too late to experiment n stuff.

I tested the retri rotation a lot on the ptr and it will continue to be mediocre, like builds and equipment combinations and it will certainly be the worst dps spec, ahead of perhaps the fire mage in MC.
