3:58 Oh great… Add this to the list for the Super Mario 64 personalized iceberg post-giga leak rumors n’ such! But seriously, I did not like to see Mario collapse and die in that game when I was a kid. Imagine if I somehow saw this on my SNES! 😖

That's wild. I would have never guessed they're were still satellaview broadcasts well into the N64 era. They're so quick to kill off stuff stateside, but Japan keeps on trucking
@cabbusses

It's even stranger when you realize the N64 was originally planned to be out by Sept. 1995, which would only had been about 5 months into the Satellaview's lifespan. There may had been even more N64 stuff on the broadcasts if the system was not delayed.
@SuperSmashDolls

It's the 90s equivalent of Just Dance coming out on the Wii *after* the Wii U was discontinued. The SNES had a very long lifespan, specifically because a lot of game studios didn't want to jump straight into 3D (especially given that the N64 was deliberately designed to be hard to program for). Nintendo even wound up shipping a Fire Emblem game on Satellaview (Thracia 776). Even after Nintendo stopped supporting Satellaview in favor of the N64DD and RANDNet, St.GIGA kept broadcasting data anyway - though Wikipedia at least claims that it had been turned into a program guide for other St.GIGA channels and no longer had any Nintendo content on it.
Get google translate for your phone dude, you hold the camera up to the screen and it translates the text via augmented reality.

Hello you

I find the augmentation really falters for kanji-type characters if the quality is low resolution (as these technically are). I don't know if the fact I was translating Traditional Chinese had anything to do with it, but when I was translating something where I *knew* the rough likely translation it was going to spit out (it was a dub of something I'd seen in English and I was checking to see if the foreign dialogue on the Taiwanese dub had been changed significantly or not), for several sentences it flickered through anywhere from 4 to 16 other (very bad, clearly not right) translations before it showed the likely one. Not that there's NO utility to it (eventually I got to the most likely translation), just that Google Translate (and especially AR Google Translate) is not infallible, and it likes being fallible with CJK languages and low resolution images a lot.

@@citrusella-nomorecraptions There's a function in the camera that says "scan" that takes a photo. As long as the photo is not blurry, it should give you the correct translation much more frequently on the first try

Google translate and such things often don't translate low res kanji very well, since the low resolution has very minute details that the translator isn't optimized for. Still could be used to have an idea of what it's about though, but i guess he wants a proper translation to experience first.
That picture of Luigi isn't supposed to be him in the place of Mario, it's Luigi as the game's cameraman! See the director's chair and clapper board.
So the top left image at 4:24 is a reference to The Laughing Salesman, which makes me believe this is fan generated content submitted to St. Giga. Crazy to think something officially Nintendo would have fan content like that. Like if Bowsette made her way to Nintendo Minute.

In the original broacasts, those artwork pieces were accompanied by an audio story by Yuuki Nae (For example, the one with Luigi in Bob-Omb Battlefield has him acting as a director, presumably giving Lakitu commands). Only a few have been translated/are able to be understood at a glance. I'd love to know what the heck inspired Warau Salesman Mario.

That "Face-melting artwork of Mario" is a parody of an actor named Tanaka Kunie known for a TV drama series "北の国から" (From the Northern Land,) which is why the background is a forest covered in snow. Some people might know his face through Kizaru in One Piece.
The Bowser-Luigi at 4:17 and the Mario with safety gear on at 4:24 are both art done for April fools for some magazines if I remember correctly! : D

It was pretty cool to see games like Excitebike: Mario Battle Stadium not only have voice clips but use the same voices as Mario Kart 64, but it's so bizarre and awesome to see not only the Nintendo 64 itself but even footage from Super Mario 64 on a Super Nintendo/Super Famicom. It's so nice to think that Japan is basically a strange universe where both Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 coexisted for quite a long time.
I always thought it was cool how Wrinkly Kong in DKC3 was playing an N64. This is another level of bizarre seeing actual N64 screenshots inside SNES software.
I missed some of this myself. Thanks for the full look into it.

Neat stuff but I'm still patiently waiting for those lost BS F-Zero GP 2 tracks.
4:30 Thats wandering salesman mario. Wandering saleman is a manga about a guy who answers wishes but usually the end after the wish is granted the person who made the wish fall into some horrible event. Its a manga series.
Commenting with some of my own notes as I watch the video: The Ge-mu no Tsubo here corresponds with this archive recording kukun kun did; kzread.info/dash/bejne/X3mJt8dup7e7qZs.html You may want to pay attention to it, as this is a case where the audio corresponds with the ROM content. Kukun kun has uploaded other episodes as well. Unfortunately I can't seem to track if the Mario Kart 64 magazine is in one of those broadcasts, although I know that there's more of those where that came from, and sometimes they do weird things with the Mario Kart screenshots. Thanks for shouting out the previous Ge-mu no Tsubo and Konae-chan dumps; they were among the first dumps I was recall helping eludevisibility document. Apparently that Ge-mu no Tsubo is a digest, a sort of "Best of" piece; A lot of the artwork in it is actually lower-res versions of stuff from previous magazines. In regards to "Event version" Konae-chan; although I have not analyzed the ROM yet, my first assumption would be that the normal version removes the password submission screen. I'll look into it shortly.
The mining/builder Mario at 4:30 is so interesting to me, this is almost 20 years before Mario maker

The Mario 64 thing is telling about an event where you could win a golden controller for N64. The two girls won and it says you can apply by sending a postcard
Its so nice seeing more found setalleview content, its a really nifty thing that they did in japan.
4:28 the Mario in the top left is a nod to a popular cult classic "The Laughing Salesman". Good taste!
At first glance I thought the game was similar to Frostbite on the Atari 2600, where you stand on sheets of ice that float past to make an igloo, while collecting fish and avoiding clams, crabs, and a polar bear, but looks like it's very different.
That one with Luigi in Bob-omb Battlefield is actually him in the director's chair. Maybe trying to say that he is directing Mario 64 in some way.
04:25 The one on The TOP LEFT corner is Luigi as The Laughing Salesman. For more Information, Google „The Laughing Salesman”. He is a Character from Manga and Anime who has Been Created by The original Creator of Doraemon.

1:56 I recognize Mr. Tezuka and Mr. Aonuma in the far left... neat! For some reason this image has a logo in the center that seems to say Dragon Quest, it is the logo though, but not sure about the text.
Every newly dumped Satellaview content is a gift, Whenever i'll get the chance to go in Japan i'm making sure to get ahold of some flash packs, just to get them dumped.
Videos are too short! Love the content
1:20 what an ABSOLUTE BANGER
A couple of those Mario 64 preview images look like they were taken directly from the game, but the other two are definitely odd (the ones with the yellow mushrooms). The one with Mario falling looks to be some sort of slide level possibly, or maybe an early version of the underground invisible cap obtain area? The fourth one with all the presumably-dead Marios is even stranger. Are those two images renders or mock-ups made specifically for the magazine? Or were they lifted directly from the game?
at 4:11 it looks like Luigi is flipping someone off lol
Yeah in Japanese schools whenever the kids win contests or a match against another school or anything really, this is the format they use. They have the stock gold-trimmed thicker paper ready, and there's usually one special printer that can do these and large banners. They use a font that looks like calligraphy and the principal, vice principal, and relevant teachers sign it. Then they are handed to the kid in one of the many ceremonies 4:25 that's definitely a _Laughing Salesman_ parody
The n64 picture is an outtake from LSD Dream Simulator
That Konae chan game is basically Flicky meets frogger. Cool little concept
Is the bottom middle image at 3:52 a reference to the FF game that was briefly in development prior to Square working on FF7 for the PS1?
