    @brianmello. Saturn had the “This is the price” business practice. That didn’t end well for them. Government needs to stay out of price setting! If you don’t like the price go to another dealership. The one you work for seams to have a great customer service practice. With that sales will be huge. Sell 100 trucks for lower that MSRP is better than selling 5 trucks well over MSRP. 100 potential return customers vs. 5. It’s easy.

    Eliminating the dealers would also eliminate many jobs as well as give manufacturers complete control over what we pay for their vehicles. Here's an idea...how about we, the consumer, stop paying these ridiculous markups.

    Production was eventually halted in Fort Wayne because of the chip shortage and many trucks were parked in fields which was a huge mistake. Rodents ate the wiring and it was rumored that those trucks were to be scrapped. They should have stopped sooner but, GM thought that the shortage wasn't going to last long. It lasted far longer than anticipated.

    I think consumers should have the choice. Manufacturers can continue to give the dealers the same markdowns as today. However, the dealership better add some sort of value to the deal. If I had the choice to go through the dealer experience and save a little money or have a Tesla like buying experience for a little more, I am choosing the less stressful one.

    My parents owned a GM store, I grew up in it. I absolutely do not like GM controlling the inventory, I truly miss the days you could go out Saturday morning and come home that afternoon with a new Denali. Pricing? It was also our biggest dissatisfaction at our store. I could probably get used to standardized pricing across the board. Thanks for the great videos!

    I have a 2019 model S. As I write this I have 174,000 miles on it. The only thing the dealer was needed for was the driver side door handle. And they actually came to the house and swapped it out. That car is never been to the dealer. It’s only gone to America’s tire. For tires. So I would not even know what their warranty service is like. This damn thing holds together.

    What happened to dealer trades? Back a couple decades, dealer trades was a thing. The dealer won't tell you where they found the vehicle you wanted but they can get it for you. I got my y2k Taco with 156 miles on it from a local dealership but the Moroney sticker showed a dealership a hundred miles away. It was a rare combo, TRD 4x4 with 5-speeed and ABS in silver. If one dealership has a full lot and another doesn't, do they still do dealer trades?

    Dealers were never intended to be a consumer advocate, it's a business designed to make a profit like all businesses. There was a consumer advocate oriented manufacturer and dealer network years ago you may remember. It was called Saturn. They never once turned a profit, just losses year after year until going out of business completely.

    After more than 20 years in the business it amazes me that customers did not have a problem with the dealers giving big discounts when inventory was plentiful but scream an yell when they have to pay a mark up when dealers cant replace the inventory they have. Brian, GM has always as far back as I can remember been on a turn and earn allocation system and constraints on builds due to availability of parts. Also on the Federal government puts restrictions on manufacturers by making them meet a model year MPG or pay fuel guzzler tax.

  • @BrianMello

    @BrianMello

    For sure Jerry, there has always been an allocation system in place, but when the 4th gen trucks came out in 2019 they seemed to tighten the supply dramatically. They also seem to be making it impossible for some of the smaller dealers to survive. If they aren't giving those dealers any units, how can they turn them to earn more. They seem to just dump the inventory that nobody wants on those dealers. Of course supply chain issues became a real problem in 2020+ so I get the constraints, but now it seems they are throttling the factories to keep supply down in order to maintain and justify the high prices. You do make a very good point with the government restrictions when it comes to MPG, and now EV credits. The whole thing is just chaos at this point. Appreciate your comment, thanks for watching.

  • @Averagedude764

    I know you don’t like it, but dealers will be phased out. The big manufacturers will do what Ford is doing and form a new company which is direct to consumers. Dealerships will become delivery centers, service centers, and a means to trade in your vehicle. More than likely they’ll leverage the electric platform to do this. Dealers are making major profits by selling at MSRP and also the kick backs for every unit sold. I have no sympathy for any dealer selling above MSRP and not much for those selling at it. While everyone has been rolling in the money, GM’s service departments are poorly staffed and in general not providing the service customers have been paying for. If you truly want prices to be set at MSRP, GM will do that for you, but they will lower MSRP and you’ll make a set margin, which will be more than likely much less than what it is now. If I owned a dealer I would focus on the customer experience, service departments, and the used car market. Since used cars are generally where the most money can be made, I don’t see this as a bad opportunity. The consumer demand, frustration with dealership’s taking advantage of them, shady tactics, are all going to bite dealers. Before you say your dealership doesn’t do this, you’re the one saying everyone should be selling at MSRP, when in reality everyone should be doing what said dealership in Florida is doing. Seems to me their the ones not taking advantage of people, but rather making profits by being high volume. The fact they get so many allocations shows GM wants this model. As an avid car buyer and fan of GM’s, I can’t wait for this to happen to not have to deal with the buying experience. With that, love your videos and appreciate your content. Always insightful!
