Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The 2023 Dodge Hornet GT ($40,190 starting in Canada, $31,830 in the US) is a brand new compact crossover with a torquey 2.0L turbo ‘Hurricane4’ engine. Dodge proudly displays that the Hornet GT is the quickest and most powerful CUV for the price. With 268 horsepower and 295 lb ft of torque, combined with an eLSD and all wheel drive, the Hornet GT certainly looks to make a performance statement. Thomas and James are excited to get behind the wheel and see what this brand new Dodge has to offer. We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!

@@elvistwattya Dodge that is based on an Alfa Romeo that is based on a Jeep that is based on a Fiat. The starting point of all this disgrace is the Fiat 500x. Then the Jeep Renegade came, then it has been reworked A LOT in years, for example by changing the chassis to use two different AWD systems, or for being a plug-in hybrid, or both. When everybody was convinced that FCA (now Stellantis) wouldn't make another car on that chassis because it was old and extremely painfully adapted, the Alfa Romeo Tonale was presented. And now, just by changing a couple of logos here and there, we have the Dodge Hornet. In an almost 15 years old chassis. What could possibly go wrong? :D

I bought a red Dodge Hornet with the Track Pack a few weeks ago and it really is a lot of fun to drive. I generally drive pretty relaxed in town but on highways, I'll get on it from time to time. I'm clocking in around 5.9-6.0 seconds 0-60 mph at ~700 ft above sea level. Although, I would say the car shines in 30-70 mph passing power. You'll be cruising along and then get on it and the car will surprising pull really hard with a pretty wide power band. Time will tell how reliable the car will be, so I went ahead and got an extended warranty from the dealer I bought it from. I cross-shopped this with a CX-30/CX-5, Kona N, and a Crosstrek/Outback.

First year model and a mix of all the low reliability based vehicle manufacturers... I've stated in other videos about the Hornet that if Dodge (Stellantis) can bring the dependability up to the level of at least the outgoing models of the Charger/Challenger within the first two model years, I think they will be able to gather up some market share. People like me will be watching them closely for recalls and dependability issues... especially major ones like the Dart had. Their non-V8 engines have not had the best track record over the history of the company. I want to see them succeed. We can always use another successful auto manufacturer, because it makes everyone else step up their game. They have some great ideas for this initial entry vehicle, executing those with a high level of quality and dependability is going to be key.
NOBODY BEATS A DEAL FROM PEEL! Thought it was funny seeing my local dealers plate covers haha
Sat in one at local auto show (jeep country) very narrow, I'm not obese but I don't skip leg day either so fitting in there wasn't comfy for the minimal time in the seat, definitely for snow birds and squeaks
I've always wondered why almost no car manufactures ever pads that center console where your knee rests. They all seem to overlook the comfort there complete. Across town you may not notice, but after an all-day cross country you will definitely feel a tender spot where your knee has rested against the center console for hours. In any event, Dodge has always been about affordable performance. That was the Dodge brothers main driving force, and goes back to the start of the company.

Is it? Do we actually know the reliability of the new motors?

@@TheRealCatof The Hurricane-4 isn't really a that new. It's a corporate engine that's been used in the Wrangler and Cherokee for years now. So there’s been some years to monitor its long term reliability. Dodge is just trying to market this motor as being extremely new/fresh

Seems neat. I normally don't like crossovers but if I had money to piss away I'd lease one for the hell of it.

The term "backhanded compliment" comes to mind. I love you guys, and I know that this is a tough car to get excited about. I appreciate that you kept everything in perspective. I agree, 30K makes sense for this car. Maybe some maniac 20-something year old tuners will milk these things into an enthusiast car.

This kinda reminds me of the one amg crossover that Mercedes’ made forgot the name wasn’t it the gla 45 amg? Where it was to small to be a true crossover but to heavy to be a hatchback nobody liked it and the thing is super cheap to buy now maybe this ends up like that where it’s in a purgatory of to sporty for the normies and to heavy and normie for the enthusiasts

Give it 6 months to a year after they hit the streets and you'll see them challenging Corvette, Mustangs and other more popular "tuned" street cars.
The sexy bee bit got me every single time. So good.
Even though youre stuck with the console shifter at least its the right way around, pulling back to shift up and push to shift down
The reliability probably sucks, but dang this is a good value proposition

A decent car to buy then toss as soon as the warranty's done. Perhaps something worth getting an extended 100k coverage for
I just remember how this car went into limp mode with all the dash lights on after TFL did the slip test with this car, on paper it sounds like a great car but in practice it's not off to a good start 😬

Is anyone else getting some serious Mitsubishi vibes from the front view? I like that it’s got more of an old school 1980s thru early 2000s small grill between the headlights and the large grill down below but not the MASSIVE grills that are as tall as the whole front of the car that’s been so popular for the past 10 years.
I bet that’s a lot of fun to drive 😊
Didn't know this car existed until I saw this video! I appreciate the styling, it's funky but stylish, I tend to go for stuff like that. I'm really sus on Dodge reliability tho, though I guess this engine is one of their better ones...how's the transmission? I thought the Dart was great when it launched a decade ago but now you don't see them because they didn't last similar to the Caliber before that and the Neon before that. Until proven otherwise, that's what I'm gonna expect from this Hornet.

You guys earned a subscriber just by that introduction alone
The rear seat back has a ski pass thru which would work great for a fishing rod. I wish more cars had this.
I think it's a nice little car with some legitimate potential in the upper models. Make it look a bit more aggressive in the R/T and above models and it should be a solidly good looking car for what it is. Also, James dropping a Benedict Arnold reference got me good
The intro had me buzzing
You have both created a KZread channel that is impressive and most excellent.

My Mazda CX-30 with the basic engine (191HP, 186lb-ft) has been clocked to 60 in 7.3 seconds. I was smart enough to buy the basic S (added dealer leather) just over 3000 lbs. The turbo CX-30 weighs in at over 3500 lbs. so you lose a good amount of your acceleration to weight. I posted this to say the breaks are good, and the handling excellent, and it's made in Japan not Italy where turbo charging is required for performance.
While I was never the biggest Dodge fan... quite surprised by this one! It should get a rally pack with flaps behind the wheels, smaller rims and all terrain tires. :D It's got a nice simple but sporty body design.

I am also a big Dodge fan. But tbh i still miss the old Dodge models like 1996 Viper GTS and 1999 Concept Car.
1: Discontinue Dodge Charger and Challenger that could be had with a V8 for low 30s even just a few years ago. 2: Make cornball badge replaced 4 cylinder SUV with Italian reliability. 3: Charge more than what a V8 muscle car used to cost pre-Covid.
