I'm not proud of this, but I actually do really enjoy this game. I played it a ton on GCN. Except the flying levels. They are terrible. Cool weapons, a Halo ripoff stage in the mountain ascent level, a stealthy level with poison arrows that make enemies vomit to death? What's not to love? The Zoo cheat is pretty cool too, even if it's mostly made for sadists to kill dinos and animals that can't fight back. Still an interesting cheat. Remember cheat codes? That weren't paid DLC? Sigh....

genuinely so happy to see someone else brought up the zoo cheat lol I'm in my late 20s and had the OG Turok games as a kid and I dunno, even for a not so great XBOX game, it felt cool to me to just walk by and see a T-Rex in a wide enclosure lol.

Turok evolution was one of the games that made me realize that just because it has the name of an all time favorite game series doesn't mean that it has the same love and care put into it as it's predecessors. And it's worse knowing the tragedy of Acclaim. R.i.p The OST and story is good tho.

Also if it happens that the enemy happens to stand close enough to a cliff (or any high place) so that the vomit falls off the edge it turns into waterfall of sick, becouse the game spawns as many vomit particels as it can during that animation and they only cease to be until they hit the floor. I remember that the TEK bow was actually a straight downgrade from the starting bow in this game. There was a bug with the starter bow where if you tapped the shoot button without charging the arrow at all, it would not drop. But if you charged it, then the arrow had physics applied to it. So by just tapping it quickly enough you had a perfect accuracy hitscan bow - and it didn't work with the TEK bow.

To answer your question Matt, Tal’Set is both the Turok from the original Turok comics as well as the one you play as in Turok Dinosaur Hunter. The Acclaim Turok was the guy on the cover art to Dinosaur Hunter in at least America. You play as that one in Turok 2.

Also i rented this as a kid. Turok 1 was a big deal in my house. I used to fall asleep watching my dad play it and have him tell me about new stuff he encountered the next day. There is a forced stealth segment that goes on for like 3 or 4 levels in evo. Every time I thought it was over the next level begins. Being seen by a single enemy is instant game over. And iirc after you beat it you fight for a bit and then have to do even more stealth.

Aye, this game is a prequel to Dinosaur Hunter only because Tal'Set (aka the greatest warrior who has held the Turok mantle) stars in both. The next wave of games, Game Boy included, would have the Fireseed family as the protagonists, Joshua being the most important member of the lineage. Also, it's interesting how the GBA version of Evolution is literally a Contra/Metal Slug-esque game.

I’ve grown to love the flying sections. It’s really fast paced and easier to master than from what I remember. The game is rushed but was and is still super fun to play and beast the levels. Taking little to no damage when you are on the lift going from one tower to the next fighting the ships. Weapon comboing the enemies. I always love using a explosive arrow then switching to the shotgun and pumping it with the secondary running up to them while they try to get back on their feet.

And Evolution is pretty antiquated by now so I don't think there's much content they can reuse from that game and not modify it beyond recognition to compete with modern games so at that point just make a new game, especially since Evolution wasn't that successful anyway. The main character of Evolution is Tal'Set, who has a fairly interesting history with the canon. See, the original Turok game was based off of the Turok: Dinosaur Hunter comic series by Valiant since Acclaim only just recently acquired Valiant and hadn't kicked off their series of Turok comics just yet, so technically T:DH has literally nothing to do with Turok 2, since Seeds of Evil was the first of the games to be based off of Acclaim's Turok. In Valiant's Turok, the story centers around 2 protagonists named Turok and Andar, the former being the playable character in T:DH. In Acclaim's Turok, the story mostly focuses Joshua Fireseed, who is player character in T2:SOE. Turok Evolution is meant to be a prequel to T:DH but is still canon to the Acclaim Multiverse, which complicates things as you can imagine.

This was my introduction to the Turok franchise, with the ps2 version. Until the nightdive ports, this and the reboot were my only exposure to the series.

They used the exact same design from Captain Harrison Love from the movie called The Mask of Zorro for Captain Bruckner in this game. I noticed that right away when I saw him in the instruction booklet way back in 2004.

Theirs a pistol in the first level that’s also a sniper, the 2 raptors would’ve been child’s play, you needed to climb the small mountain you were climbing to get the key but go to the top. It’s next a monkey who’s guarding it.

This was my first Turok game, before going back to Turok 2,1, and Rage Wars. I do think the older games had a better style to them, and is a shame this one didn't have a more cinematic story. I think there were even multiplayer characters who didn't show up in the campaign. However, this game did do well with the gore and trying to make the areas feel lively with all the animal models, unlike other games with empty and sometimes soulless open world landscapes.

I think this Turok has the best nuke in the whole series, too bad you can't cheat to use it in other levels outside the one you get it in

"This is the PC Version... Which I didn't know it existed until not that long ago" Well that's your first mistake: The PC version is worse than the PS2 by a mile, I'll tell you hwat. Besides the only advantage being mouse controls, everything else suffers. I mean, if you attempt to change the controls without playing this in compatibility mode, then you're boned (it's also hard to simply close the game). Here's some more shit that's exclusive to the PC: >One thing to mind is that Acclaim didn't port the PC version but some 3rd party contract. Another is that this is PAL Exclusive(?) >The text doesn't scale if playing at a higher resolution, which renders said text being small (look at HUD). >Certain pieces of scenery looks way off (I.e. the stalactites), and that's because the company ported this botched the shaders. >The Scopes are UNUSABLE. Even the Spider Mine is worthless. >The FOV is a bit too low. I'm judging this by the title screen where you're supposed to see the floor. Perhaps it was the game isn't intended to run wide screen. >There's no Multiplayer, but there's still Multiplayer leftovers. >Speaking of leftovers: There's also a goldmine of unused content, including Fatboy Slim.

yeah i watched DFs video too and its like a different world in comparison, for me turok 3 was the best when i played it because the story was not hard to beat and fighting the bots in multiplayer was funny. you could just set the health or tweak anything in the options and the bots would be killing each other in 1 shot. i dint know hey had a difficulty option with the bots until seen a blue bar on each of them and maxed it out, boy was that a mistake i did.
