    You know who else does it, the Yu-Gi-Oh OCG. The concept of an OCG card costing more than $5 is absurd, cards are very cheap in the OCG territories. The way Konami treats its OCG players vs how it treats the TCG players is borderline discriminatory and in a modern age of internet news where we now know for a fact that Konami has been rarity bumping and overcharging TCG players compared to OCG players, it is downright insulting.

    @@tommytheotaku9990 realistically, all it would take is a coordinated movement among players to host a tournament league that operates the same as Konami sanctioned tier 1-4 events, but allows proxy cards. That's it. Players get to enjoy the game without being hostage to Konami's printing practices or the secondary market. Having a place to play also takes the sting out of potentially being banned from official tournament play. Official tournaments don't offer cash prizes, so there isn't even the problem of asking people to stop participating in tournaments for money when that's their livelihood. Konami does what it does because it's profitable. If you're not buying cases, secondary market sellers are so that you can buy the singles. Konami makes its money no matter who buys the cases. So the only way to motivate Konami is to hit its profits and the only way to do that is to depress sales of sealed product. That will never happen so long as official locals/regionals/YCS are the only places to play the game, meaning players are forced to buy and play with Konami-printed cards.

    Anime as an artstyle changed as a whole. All YGO really did was follow suit, so it makes sense. If we're talking specifically waifu decks, I think that's fine too. Them making these decks don't cause any detriment in art quality for other decks, not to mention that for every anime girl deck they make, they make like 10 other non-anime girl decks that are each all pretty distinct from each other.

    It's hard to answer what makes a "good card" because the question can have 2 meanings. 1 - good as in "good design". 2 - good as in "it's powerful". I'm assuming good design is the question, I think at this point it would be a card that: Does not define/reshape the meta around it, while also being relevant enough to see play.

    My main problem with ai is not that it can replace humans(and it can't anyways,for reasons I will elaborate on later) but because it can only exist by praying on the art of other humans. You can't make ai that just draws stuff,it needs some kind of reference to take from. Ai cannot replace artists because ai cannot exist without artists. Ai fundamentally doesn't have the ability to learn,it can only immitate. The only way I could see ai being used in a ok way is if an artists makes their own ai based on their own work for some reason. Even then I wouldn't accept images made with that AI because it was made by ai, regardless if it was with the consent of the artist

  • @younasdar5572

    @younasdar5572

    6 ай бұрын

    You know who else can only exist by imitating artists? Other artists, like you will not draw something that is not in the end inspired by either nature (oh no we should ban cameras because they will take the poor artists jobs!) or any number of art pieces you saw over your life. Almost as if AI was made to best immitate how humans work. Now currently you also have the upside that AI is pretty terrible at its job when it comes to things like fingers or fine details wich it melds without enough "understanding" of how they work. But in the end just like there's a customer base that will pay good money today for handcrafted items that can be produced on automated assembly there will always be some that will pay, more the more common AI becomes, for human made art solely because it is human made. And if you're an artist, would you not prefer to be able to make the art you are passionate about for someone who truly cares about it, and can afford it, instead of being a drone making assembly line "art" that you don't care about for an audience who wouldn't care if you were replaced with a robot?

    I do wonder sometimes if Konami secretly wants the physical game to die in the west. The fact that they are still pulling this rarity bumping nonsense despite the fact its hurting their bottom line and causing stores to drop the game entirely (and that's before we get into the nonsense with the refusal to release Rush Duel despite it being what the current anime's are focused on, preventing newcomers from being able to easily access the game). It's just baffling.

Core sets are 10 Secrets per set, usually 2/box pulled, so 2.4 of each secret per case. This set has 11 URs and if it's 3/box we're looking at 36 Ultras pulled so 3.27 of each per case. But, this doesn't account for short prints or CRs.

I have no fucking clue why the packs are so stingy about the slots like that. Seriously, there should be like 2 Super Rare slots and then make one slot that is always an Ultra Rare OR Secret Rare. That increased pull rate alone would help immensely if Konami wants to continue to scalp the TCG market with the higher rarity BS. I definitely also agree with printing things at multiple rarities, or just printing strong cards at lower rarities to begin with.

If you start off as an artist, small account or small voice actor, you either charge liveable wage but no one pays because you're a nobody, or you charge a stupid cheap amount, and grind unhealthy, unsustainable hours in order to maybe make that liveable wage. Old Yugioh art followed the appeal of what was 80's and 90's anime at the time, which compared to today were more dark and edgy. So the underlying philosophy never really changed much. It only changed because the times changed with it. Waifus have been the market for the last decade.

    At least Bandai is attempting to deal with broken problems like that in Digimon before they take off rather than ignoring it and pretending it doesn't exist like Konami. 🤷 If only Digimon didn't do the same thing with power creep that Yugioh does to force players to buy new product. It would be a lot more enjoyable if you could just pick up the game and play without having to worry about getting completely stomped by the newest sets' mechanics/abilities. It makes finding balanced games difficult unless you're both playing the newest sets all the time. Metas exist in any card game but they're intentionally designing cards/mechanics to be more broken than the last which is just going to ruin the game like Konami did with Yugioh. It's a shame to see because the Digimon TCG is actually fun to play as long as you're playing around the same power level.

    About the Magic AI fiasco: • It is absolutely their fault and I think their apology was lacking. It was also very stupid to post "This isn't AI" with what seems to have been only a surface-level confirmation. They *are* saying they're going to improve their checks so that's good. • At the same time, it is very possible that there's just a chain of mistakes and miscommunication. Vendors have been known to lie. Marketing probably doesn't have it as clear as an art director. I don't think WotC as a whole are saints, but there's probably an art director or two very frustrated that their efforts to push against AI are cancelled by a marketing team's screwup.

    2:07:44 Quick comment on the Yugioh art. I feel Despia/Albaz brought back that og yugioh style and is personally my favorite art in the game. Not a waifu fan but I do like a two gendered theme, like Albaz and Ecclesia or The magicians. Also I hate to hear this conversation on a.I. Alright, here is my whacky take about this whole "waifu deck" thing. tl;dr: There are enough non-"waifu" archetypes. The start to the "waifu thing" was in the original. You are coping hard if it bothers you. I think people who have a problem with that should just suck it up and ignore it. If you have a problem with anime then I you probably should just stop paying attention to card art. Amazoness have been out there for a long ass time, since GX, I think. Cyber Angels and some older cards. Dark Magician Girl and such. They have always been there and will always be there. It is just the fact that we have way more cards now than we do back then and that the art has leveled up from those times too. I have seen these types of neckbeard redditors that have been complaining about anime and especially "fanservice" in regular anime and it honestly feels like they are a bunch of, as the Japanese like to call them, "tourists". These are also the same people that will instantly jump to the assumed conclusion that anybody that likes pretty anime girls is a pedo. Even if there is literally 0 sexuality going on, no sexual themes, nothing. Like with Traptrix Sera. There is 0 sexuality going on but these neckbeards still water down the term pedophile just to satisfy their own feeling of superiority or subverting their feeling of inferiority. People can like cute anime girls without there being anything sexual about it. You don't go up to a classical art fanatic and call them pedos because there happens to be girl in a painting, do you? It is just people on the outside looking inside and trying their damnedest to garner attention because that is what they crave. Yeah, I play Dragonmaids, I play Traptrix, I play Labrynth, Exosister, Plant Pile featuring Rikka, Aromage, and Sunavalon, but on the flipside I also play HOrcust, Red Dragon Archfiend, Synchron Stardust, Red-Eyes Kashtira, T.G., Naturia Vernusylph, and Nouvelles. I like the art of every single deck I play and that should be fine. Why would it matter what art the cards have that somebody plays? If it bothers you to the point of making a fuss about it, let me ask you: Are you really THAT spineless? Are you one of those men that refuses to wear female clothing because you are afraid it will hurt your masculinity? Or are you just mad that some cards that you want to get are expensive and you blame it on the "waifu tax"? Cause man... Any of those makes you pathetic. There are enough non-"waifu" archetypes out there that you can pick from, competitively even. So why care? Just let people play what they enjoy for whatever reason they enjoy it, and stop huffing that copium so much.

    Im honestly fine with SP being that expensive because its a 1) good set, 2) usually ran at 1, and 3) super strong staple card almost every deck can use. A three of a near staple of a tier 0.5 engine/deck that is very likely to be hit is egregious for the average “casual competitive” player, which is where Konami should be thinking to cater towards more, as ultra competitive players will get every card they need regardless, and yugiboomers/true casuals stick to their pet deck.

    Damnit, guys. Stop calling it ai "art". The images that ai generated is not art and it will never ever be art. There is no human developing process involved. No human emotions put into place by their own individual actions that leads up to the final piece. There is no human soul present at all. It is just an image generated by an ai. I refuse to use the term "art" for anything an ai generates. It is simply ai generated. I also do not think it has a place anywhere in terms of art. The only proper use of ai that I have seen going around is replacing corrupt WOKEalizers with translations that are at least somewhat accurate to the source material. A translation does not need a soul, it does not need an emotional development process. All it needs to do it translate words from one language into another language and make the sentence structure make sense. Perfect for ai, albeit it still needs some corrections by humans.
