Sounds very similar to the old Irish Pagan goddess "The Morrígan" Goddess of Death, War, and Sex. Also called the Phantom Queen who's animal was the crow.
Morana as a given name is rare in the Slavic world today. The only country where it's not entirely uncommon is, for some reason, Croatia. Great presentation, love it!

Because in the South Slavic tradition, the love story of Juraj/Jarilo/Ivo and Mara/Morana is the explanation of the season cycle. It seems that in South Slavic area, especially in Croatia, this myth was the most important. In the folk songs of Croatia, Bosnia and Slovenia there are many evidences of this importance. On the other hand, there are almost no mention of Svarog, Dažbog, Svantevid etc. The South Slavic pantheon seems to consisted of Perun and his wife Mokoš, his antagonist Volos and his children, Juraj and Mara. Morana is Mara's name after the death of Juraj. Later, people masked their beliefs by naming the Christmas Božić, which was the birth day of Juraj, and merging Juraj with St George. Mara became Marija and blended with virgin Mary. See Vitomir Belaj, "Hod kroz godinu"

Yes it's relatively common in Criatia.
In Russia there is a ritual, present to this day. It's celebrated at the beggining of March and is called Maslenitsa (comes from the word maslo - butter.). During this event people have fun, celebrating first warm days of the year, eat some blini(slavic pancakes) with butter and generally enjoy their time. At the end of the day all of the people gather around the straw figure and burn it down. I actually think that the ritual u talked about at the end of the video, just transformed into maslenitsa over time. So actually the straw statue is the statue of Morana I guess.

Oh damn what a coincidence haha I was just watching a few vids on slavic mythology and noticed your new upload. Thank you man! Slava!
Morana and her sosters, Živana and Lelja, were once kidnapped by Skiper Zmej, an evil creature, the ambassador of chaos. He turned the three goddesses into horrible monsters. After Perun, the thunder god defeated Skiper Zmej in an open duel, so the legend says, the three godesses were returned their natural look. Morana couldn't bare the dammation of the beast and became dark and evil. She went to the underworld where she lives now.

thank u for making videos about Slavic mythology, i fancy mythology from all over the world but there's not much known about Slavic pantheon out there, and sometimes it's confusing to do research based on the internet because one website can tell different things from another. for example, one said Svarog is god of the sky, but another said he is god of fire and blacksmith. There's never a clear explanation about these gods and goddesses
I fucking love Slavic Mythology especially if it focuses on Slavic Polytheism because this path of the Old Ways is so very interesting, unfortunately I'm not Slavic but I'm Celtic and I Love My Fellow Pagan Followers.

😍 I love her 😍 😂😂😂 Who's here from Milos Bogetic's "Story of her, holding an orange"? ❤ But literally, so many things add up now. I reccomend anyone who red that story, to see this video. It really fills much of the gaps 😊
Damn today is full of revelations. I am half polish but never grew up with any folklore or anything. A few days ago I decided to look into it since I like different mythologies anyway. I'm flabbergasted learning about Nav and morana because for the longest time I'd move into my "headspace" to escape reality and find myself on a wide clearing with a big tree in the middle. To the right was always a dark forest I never tried to get in because it always scared me. I didn't consciously design this place, I just went there automatically. By the tree was always a young woman with pale skin, long dark hair and wearing a white dress that would flow in the wind. She was always a very kind person (to me at least) and would often help me To be honest, I always assumed if anything she'd be from the Greek pantheon but I could never find anything that matched the description of the place and her until Nav and morana
Amazing edit

I think Kurent is the same god as Pust (Puscetus), also the same as greek Charon, etruscan Charun, and mythical polish ruler Piast Wheelwright (which is Charron in french). Rod, in hinduism Vishnu, is more broad version of this god. Rod (Krodo) holds the wheel of fortune (Sudarshana Chakra). Morana is his female version. Doesn't Kurentovanje mean something like healing? The same word as Piastowanie (care, protection). This is role of Vishnu - Preservation. Word with PST like Piast, Pust relate to Piscis and Pistis (faith, sense of people from this astrological sign).

Most probably Morena/Morana was not burned or dumped in watter originally. There is a slovak folk song where they sing : Morena, Morena you died, but not for us. Indicating that in the attempt to keep the tradition while it was non christian and banned from practicing. People did the procession as usual but at the end burned Morana showing to the christian authorities : "Look we are throwing this idol away" Doing it this way they kept the custom and not be in conflict at the same time.

In Serbia Mara is short for Marija. I never met anyone called Mara!
Aka Oya , aka Kali . The spirits aka gods energy are everywhere
In modern Russia there's an unpopular dark and overall edgy branch of Slavic neopaganism, a cult of The Great Nav'. What's interesting about it is that's it's not a paganistic religion, but rather gnostic. A material world is seen as a prison and the Great Nav' - as a sort of a "void beyond", with a strong Lovecraftian vibe. Mara thus is depicted as a benevolent Lovecraftian entity, who's goal is to liberate all the souls of the world by "decreating" them, which also makes this religion a really dark and gothic-ish vershion of Buddhism.

Proto Indo European root "mar/mor" is related to a large body of water, death or a horse. Basically, many words in English, French, Italian and particularly Slavic languages may be traced back to this old root, especially if their original meanings are kept in some form. So the answer to your question is, yes.
In Poland we drown her when the winter ends to symbolically "kill the winter". It's called "topienie marzanny"

Don't get me wrong, there is also truth but as well things that have no sources and probably come from someone's imagination (Did I mention that there is no annotation to any sources ?). There also do not take into account the question of time and space of occurrence of beliefs. No offence, if you buy it, it's ok but this is some vision of how it could be, not a historical facts. Likewise I have had on mind later appearing Marzanna, which is as I said before Goddess of dead and winter but not only in contrast to your vision of Morena. I just use those names interchangeably, it's probably the source of our little misunderstanding about the essence of this Goddess. Greetings to you.
Why this ritual looking so similar to Indian crop season festival ? They also burn and throw it in water .. And name also seems familiar we call it "marula" (meaning: changing/turning/mesmerize/mystic.. etc) festival also called "jaru seethala"(meaning : jaru = sliding/slipping, seethala = of Winter/ Cold) festival .. But there also be a eggs throwing festival or competition to lead this group.. It's a very good happy festival.. nowadays people not giving it a face .. Anyway why this was so similar ? And it was mainly done by sali's farmers .. Are there any links ?

Yeah, it s funny how Otto from Germany became the first Greek king.
People exaggerate role of Morana as goddes of death. She is just as much goddess of death as Laima or Lakshmi. She is goddes of sea, dreams and fortune. Very easy to understand if one understands astrology. Other her names: Sobota, Kupała, Ślędza, Śva (Siva from Helmold), Dola. Sobota is cognate with Sophia, sanskrit Sobhana (smart). Btw she wasn't daughter of Lada and Svarog. If anything she could be daughter of Perun (as Athena of Zeus) And btw Belin, Belebog, Belun is god of sun. Another his name might be Upało. Dadźbog is god of Earth which you shoiuld know if you are from Balkans, you have Dabog, correctly represented as god of earth. Dadźbog is god of earth/harvest like Vertumnus. Another his names or forms: Plon, Siemowit and female version: Dziewanna, Siemianna, Siemargl, Zirnitra, Semla, Verta. This Dziewanna isn't Diana (moon goddess) but Diana is Ziewanna. Siemargl is probably Siem+Mergele (lithuanian for virgo zodiac sign which is related to narvest, plony, dożynki).
