Lyrics:
Society’s collapsing; hanging by a thread
The kids are running wild and chivalry is dead
Let’s be better than before
I’ll give the tools you need to become one of the Moral Elite
(High, high, high morals!)
If you see a potted plant that’s drying in the sun,
Then giving it some water is Morals 101
And if rushing to its aid makes something fragile break
It’s moral to admit your mistake
Feed the birds until they can’t fly
While keeping your neighbor dry
And giving an autographed photo to ravenous fans
Pick up somebody else’s litter
Clean a dumpster until it glitters
You have to treat things morally every time you can
It feels so good when your morals are praised
So listen to the voice you’re hearing deep inside
When times are tough and you’ve lost your way
Just remember that virtue is always repaid
If you keep all your morals high
(High, high, high morals!)
What’s this money doing here, in a fountain running dry?
I guess I’ll give it all to a waiter standing by
Wow he’s looking kinda bored, let’s “liven up” his day
In a “morally acceptable” way
Open somebody else’s letters
Help a friend keep time better
Throw a party and bring along every person you know
See a bomb? Time to be a hero
Just for fun divide by zero
Morality is possible everywhere you go
But sometimes you’ll struggle
People will hate you for spreading the truth
But they’re all morons, don’t listen to them
Only you can decide what is right
It feels so good when your morals are praised
So listen to the voice you’re hearing deep inside
When times are tough and you’ve lost your way
Be sure to consider only your personal happiness when making decisions
It feels so good when you’re morally gray
So listen to the voice you’re hearing deep inside
When times are tough and you’ve lost your way
Remember the wisdom I’ve taught you today
Be sure to keep your morals high
(High, high, high morals!)

Morality as a concept is grey already. Hell even countries that NEIGHBOUR each other have different cultural and traditional values and ethics. Not to even mention the personal line that every (yes every) individual draws for themselves after taking that initial set of conditions into consideration. Nobody has exactly the same morals. That's literally why people fight and argue.

Y'know what sums up this song perfectly? Stelle is lawful chaotic. They follow a strict set of rules but no one knows what the hell they are. Which actually fits in with the "It feels so good when you're morally gray" part, since they stick to their morals but no one really knows what they are... So sometimes their actions are good, sometimes they're maniacally insane

I feel like thats chaotic neutral but then again eh why do we care about literal pixels Edit: i do. Lawful chaotic is when someone doesnt stray too far from societal rules and abuse loopholes and use the system in unpredictable ways. And chaotic neutral (me being chaotic neutral with an obvious bias so grain of salt everyone) does whatever they want basically. Thats why its the best alignment to have for dnd, theres not much punishment you get when youre chaotic neutral who follows their own whims and internal rules. You can be holy, you can be an absolute satan, and you can get away with it cause youre morally grey. I have my own set of internal rules even idk, i just see the situation from my perspective and go from there with whatever i want. The source: google DND websites.

Stelle is such a player character. Like that's her canon personality. She can come off as a sleepy and apathetic "player controlled character" that just wants to fight and do quests and dailies, especially if you make the choices that reflect that, while also being a beloved heroine for deeds, while also just being a little silly that makes mistakes while doing good, and it makes sense somehow.

im suprised more people havent pointed out how ironic/sarcastic this song is, it's stelle literally going "everything you think is right, everyone is morons if they disagree, do morally good things because you get praised/good karma, (and in the words of will stetson) onlyyourpersonalhappinesswhenmakingpositivedecisions" in the beginning it seems like the things are moral and it progressively gets worse, but in reality this entire song is just about stelle's personal opinions on her morals XD edit: i'm referencing reactions i've seen! the song's sarcasm was the first thing i noticed and i thought it was hilarious so i didn't expect reactions wouldn't point it out too. please chill in the replies :')

It does perfectly encapsulate our experience in the game. We literally got a third person perspective morality monologue that very much often ignores what other people might think in-game and rewards us in actual material moral gains for our actions. I've seen a few, but I wonder if literally every action described in the video is just in the game, as I kind-off feel like ithey are.

@@KurouShiro6000 It may indeed be the original inspiration of the song (which I certainly wouldn't doubt, haha), but the possibility of an underlying, deeper message to the song concerning how one may justify the reasoning behind their own or others' actions is not unlikely - especially considering Will's prior astounding works. Besides, don't you think it's a rather fun irony to play; attaching a deep meaning to something that initially started as a reference to nothing more than a simple comedic in-game feature?

Fun Art Fact: the blurred painting at the beginning of the video is called “The Garden of Earthly Delights”, and it pictures the Garden of Eden (left), the Garden of Earthly Delights (middle), and hell (right). A common interpretation of this painting is a moral warning (of some kind). A nice little touch I haven’t seen anyone bring up.

i wanna talk about how batshit insane this song is: it is just saying "listen to the voices in your head and disregard the idiots who disagree" but since i want to get more likes lets examine the lyrics even more even more!: "Society’s collapsing; hanging by a thread" "The kids are running wild and chivalry is dead" "Let’s be better than before" "I’ll give the tools you need to become one of the Moral Elite" this statement tells us 2 things, first is that the guy whos "helping" us believes that the world is already collapsing and going to shit, second, is that he believes that whit his help we can be good people, and because of that he is the one and only person who knows how to be a truly good person, because he believes himself as one of the moral elite.| "It feels so good when your morals are praised" "So listen to the voice you’re hearing deep inside" "When times are tough and you’ve lost your way" "Just remember that virtue is always repaid" "If you keep all your morals high" as said in the original comment this is basically "it feel so good to be right and morally superior, you should hear to the voices deep inside my head, and when you feel you did something wrong, you're not!, keep on going!" which is pretty bad advice if i say so myself, it breeds and narcissistic way to see the world and the morality of actions, to do what you want in belief what you are doing is morally correct, and it makes the thought of changing your mind seem insane. "What’s this money doing here, in a fountain running dry?" "I guess I’ll give it all to a waiter standing by" "Wow he’s looking kinda bored, let’s “liven up” his day" "In a “morally acceptable” way" at the first action, it insinuates that giving money tat you just found to a worker person standing by is the morally right things to do, even thought that the money does not belong to you, and someone might just left it there to get it later, but in general, its something you and me would do. this is just weird and frankly annoying, jump scaring someone isn't really a way to liven up their day, its a way to freak them out, it also says "he’s looking kinda bored" saying that the song protag isn't even sure if he's bored, it even puts "morally acceptable" in quotation marks, to question the true acceptability of this way. "Open somebody else’s letters" "Help a friend keep time better" "Throw a party and bring along every person you know" "See a bomb? Time to be a hero" "Just for fun divide by zero" "Morality is possible everywhere you go" now this geos from bad advice to crimes, invading someone piracy is straight up evil, but i just gotta ask, why the heck is is even here?, what does checking others peoples letters gotta do with morality?. The second and third are weird but fine. HOWEVER, the forth statement shows us that the impact character only wants to act as a hero, throwing a bomb at a glitching tree for some fucking reason. and finally, morality is unfortunately not compatible with every situation, you cant always be good under a normal rule of ethics, since different beliefs clash and and deferrer it causes problems which cant be fixed by following a fixed set o ideals. "But sometimes you’ll struggle" "People will hate you for spreading the truth" "But they’re all morons, don’t listen to them" "Only you can decide what is right" this is just reinforcing the echo chamber by saying anyone who disagrees or doesn't like your ideals are "morons", and aslso saying that you're the only person whos ideals are right. other than that that pretty much the entire song in detail, thanks for reading my 40 page college paragraph.

I guess I'll give it all to a waiter standing by Wow he's looking kinda bored Let's "liven" up his day in a "morally acceptable" way Open somebody else's letters Help a friend keep time better Throw a party and bring along every person you know See a bomb time to be a hero Just for fun divide by zero Morality is possible everywhere you go But sometimes you'll struggle People will hate you for spreading the truth But they're all morons, don't listen to them Only you can decide what is right It feels so good when your morals are praised So listen to the voice you're hearing deep inside When times are tough and you've lost your way Be sure to consider only Your personal happiness when making decisions It feels so good when you're morally gray So listen to the voice you're hearing deep inside When times are tough and you've lost your way Remember the wisdom I've taught you today Be sure to keep your morals high (Tell me if I missed anything/made something wrong, thanks! :D)

I’ve been listening to this song on repeat for like a day now and I just LOVE the meaning of it. The way that you use generic lyrics in some sections and then make it slowly derail to emphasize just how easy it is to stray off from the morals set by others is so good. I love this song so much

The moral lesson is that so long as you feel good about a decision you're morally "correct" no matter what anyone might say or think. It's like good and evil. Good is anything I believe it is and evil is everything else, y'know? It's just how morality works. Even if most people base their morality on what society decides in morally good, it's still what someone decided should be considered good. it doesn't make it the moral choice. Just the popular one. And in the land of YOU you're the most popular person around, morality is whatever makes you happy.

God the music video on this is so clever! The use of definitions and facts and stuff just randomly placed in there to teach a "Morality Lesson" is so cool, I love it! The song itself is amazing too, I love how it goes "do this to be good" and then at the end goes "but be selfish any time you wanna do something because you should be happy :D" I love it all so much

here's some indonesian translation of the lyrics. mostly for practice, but also maybe for any indon HSR fans out there who may or may not come across this gem. :p (note: not meant to be sung along, just a dry translation) [ LYRICS ] Masyarakat runtuh; tergantung pada seutas benang Anak-anak berkeliaran dan tiada lagi sopan-santun Mari kita menjadi lebih baik dari sebelumnya Akan 'ku ajarkanmu cara menjadi seseorang yang Bermoral Tinggi (High, high, high morals!)

I love how most of these things are technically not moral. Like feeding birds until they can't fly, the autographed photo, helping in a 'moral' way, Opening other's letters, helping Stelle's friend with time, bringing everyone you know to a party, dividing by zero (usually isn't a good thing,) and technically the plant because it resulted in it breaking. Another mention could include giving the waiter the money (it's not their's, the moral thing would be to give the money back to the owner).

I can't express how happy I was to listen to this song! The moral scale in-game is such a minute aspect of the game that doesn't contribute much to the main plot of the story or side quests, but it is one of the funniest things do find what aspect of each world you can add to your moral scale or take it away. It is one of those little details that many players may overlook, but for you to write an entire song dedicated to the MC performing good deeds and obtaining those moral scales, I can only applaud you

no one asked for this, but here's the essay put in tiny text throughout the video: The topic of this entry is not at least directly moral theory: rather, it is the definition of morality. Moral theories are large and complex things: definitions are not. The question of the definition of morality is the question of identifying the target of moral theorizing. Identifying this target enables us to see dilferent moral theories as attempting to capture the very same thing. And it enables psychologists, anthropologists, evolutionary biologists, and other more empirically oriented theorists to design their experiments or formulate their hypotheses without prejudicing matters too much in terms of the specific content a code. Judgment. or norm must have in order to count as distinctively' moral. There does not seem to be much reason to think that a single delinition of morality will be applicable to all moral discussions. One reason for this is that "morality" seems to be used in two distinct broad senses: a descriptive sense and a normative sense. Which of these two senses of "morality" a moral philosopher is using plays a crucial, although sometimes unacknowledged role in the development of an ethical theory. If one uses "morality in its deseriptive sense, and therefore uses it to refer to codes of conduct actually put forward by distinct groups or societies, one will almost certainly deny that there is a universal morality that applies to all human beings. The descriptive use of "morality" is the one used by anthropologists when they report on the morality of the societies that they study. Recently, some comparative and evolutionary psychologists (Haidt 2000: Hauser 2006: De Waal 1996) have taken morality, or a close anticipation of it, to be present among groups of non human animals: primarily, but not exclusively, other primates. Accepting that there are two uses or senses of "morality" - a descriptive sense and a normative sense does not commit one to holding that the distinction between descriptions and norms between what is and what ought to be - is obvious and unbridgeable". as some have held that it does (Churchland 2011: 185). To see this, note that it is obvious that there is a descriptive sense of morality. That is, it is obvious (that one can sensibly describe the moralities of various groups without making normative claims. And it should be equally obvious that that one might hold that a certain code of conduct would be put forward by all rational people under certain conditions without having any particular views about the nature of the is ought gap or the possibility of crossing it. great song, will! super enjoyed itt

  • @LazyPillowCase
    @LazyPillowCase6 ай бұрын

This song is such a bop and a thought manifested and im like what if its a villain singing this song so I made this parody almost instantly (its basically just the opposite of the song) Society’s conniving; held by a "sturdy" string The kids are orderly, and chivalry's the thing Let’s regress to days of yore I'll give you tools to embrace the morally impure (Low, low, low morals!) If you spot a potted plant, let it wither in the sun Morals are overrated; it's time for some real fun If breaking something makes you laugh, don't admit mistake Take advantage, exploit, and watch the world break Starve the birds until they drop Let your neighbor's roof leak non-stop Snub fans, let them hunger for your autograph Dump your litter with glee Turn the dumpster into debris Morality's a choice; ignore it, just laugh It feels so good when your morals are scorned Ignore that inner voice; let it go ignored When times are tough, and you've lost your way Virtue's a myth; live for yourself today Let your morals fall away (Low, low, low morals!) Money in a fountain, take it all and don't ask why Keep it for yourself; let the waiter's hopes die He's looking kinda bored; let's make his day In a morally questionable, self-serving way Open everyone else’s letters Worsen a procrastinator Throw a party, but only invite those who have served you well See a bomb? Run away; save yourself zero morals equaling to more wealth Morality's a joke, just laugh and rebel You'll only triumph sometimes People will hate you for spreading your lies They might be right; listen to them So that you can repent when its convenient It feels so good when your morals are scorned So drown out that inner voice, let it be ignored When times are tough and you've lost your way Ignore personal happiness; lock all your hopes of belonging It feels so good when your morally stained So drown out that inner voice, let it be ignored When times are tough, and you've lost your way Remember the chaos you have sown today Keep your morals low (Low, low, low morals!) im just imagining someone that is just morally unhinged singing this to themselves
