Moose Calling How To

Ойын-сауық

Here is a video on how I do my moose calling, and the different calls I use while hunting or videoing moose. There is one call I didn't show you and there is a reason for that, it's the calf distress. On cows who have lost their calves to a predator this call works amazing. It will put a cow moose into a deeper trance then bulls in the rut. They throw all caution to the wind and will come in looking to defend the calf moose.

    Very neat...Very few Moose around here but there are a few that were transplanted here from Canada back in the 80's...I have seen 1 Cow with a Collar on it but that was back in the early 90's...No need for that call when you can do it yourself and the home made paddle brush was neat also...

    Awesome tips. Last year I had several bulls really beating on the trees and couldn’t get them to commit to coming out. Didn’t seem to matter what I threw at them, they would grunt back and shake the trees. Any thoughts on getting them to come out in that senecio?

    If hunting alone I would call in the opposite direction and quieter to see if I could trick the bulls into moving in closer and into an opening. If hunting with a partner I would have the call move off a little in hopes of drawing the bull past the hunter lying in wait.

    NLGhostWolf awesome thank you for the response. It was such a frustrating hunt last year. I had an Alaska general harvest ticket so bull 50 greater 3 brow or more. Called in multiple cows and lots of young under legal bulls. As loud and forceful as that bull was that wouldn’t respond I’m guessing he was a monster. I obviously have a great spot, but felt I was missing something on getting the big one out. Thank you, I will try your advice if I encounter the same situation...

    What is the call you used in the beginning of this video? The EERra. Is this a basic cow call or a bull grunt? Is it a basic communication call??

  • @NLGhostWolf

    @NLGhostWolf

    2 жыл бұрын

    That was a cow contact call. A call that the cow uses to communicate with her calf or calves. If the calf strays to far or is to slow in responding to mothers call she steps it up a notch. More volume, a little longer with a pitch change. Think of it as a human mother telling her child "Come Here". if the child responds right away that's all you hear as they travel and feed past you. However if the child don't respond Mother says "Come Here Now"... Once a cow moose gives this call the calf/calves respond quickly....

    +Newfiebigbear I've never used them, however I know people who have a swear by them. My cousin is one, who uses it and has been having regular success with it every year. Bottom line is this, when a moose is into the rut they are very easy to call in, any sounds that come remotely close to a moose will work on a love sick bull. True Story (the largest moose shot in our neighbour hood in the past 30 years was called in by a chainsaw. The boys stopped to repair a bridge and fired up the chain saw, when they turned it off a big bull moose was 80 yards away, walking straight at them grunting away.) But for me there's a much stronger connection and greater satisfaction calling using your own voice with practiced calls.
