Zoom G3X user here, and man the Mooer floor units are sounding fantastic in every demo including this one! I thing the G5n is incredible too, but my concern since trying one out myself has been the placement of the switches. As for the Boss, I always felt there was something lacking in the sound (for me, don't crucify me!). Now if only the Mooers didn't cost twice as much as the G5n in my country, I would definitely pick one up. Awesome review, man.

I have seen it and thanks for posting. Right now I have a chance to grab either a Line 6 POD HD 500X, a Zoom G3XN or a Boss ME-80....all on sale. Good deals on all of them (maybe liquidating before the April NAMM show???)....anyway, I can't decide. The ME--80 has a very appealing interface...It's just does it cut it sound wise? Is it obsolete already?

I use a Helix now.But the Boss ME80 is given a harsh review.I used to play it through the Return of an amp's loop ( Marshall DSL 20 or Boss Katana 100 Mkii ) and it was great.I liked using everything that was visible from the design itself with no submenus. Also a Vox Tonelab EX in the same way and that was excellent too. It was advisable by some to also engage the cab SIM of the ME80 at all times also. I have a Zoom G5n also but that is too finicky and wastes space when utilising an amp and cab.And it is too fizzy. I do not like Orange Cabs and amps though.

I have an ME-80 and I love it, lots of great amp sounds and effects. The one thing I don't like about it is the distortion pedal section. I just cannot dial in a good metal tone with any of them no matter how hard I try. I can however dial in great sounds by using the fuzz or overdrives in that section.

@@neckcheese1356 Hi. First: did you check out the extensive Metal sounds from the KZread channel of Direct Recording Guitar? High quality vids, not only showing settings for Eric Johnson, Slash. Petrucci, Metallica, Vai, Satriani etc but in those vids you also get quite some hints to setup your own sound. There musg be something good in there for you. Second: preparing your own sound pls add the EQ from the EQ/FX2 block . Ive learned that this EQ is far more flexible than some of the EQ ranges that come with the PRE AMP block. I never got the TWEED and especially the COMBO to sound nice, but with that xtra EQ it is a breeze. This EQ can function as a Mesa like V shape xtra EQ found on many mesas, it can serve as a treble boost, it can be a generic boost and it s a good tone shaper. Invest time in fiddling with it and find out the interactions between guitar tone, pre amp eq, fx2 eq AND your ampeq. Do not forget to add compression and/or the OD/DS block with its tone controls. Doing so you have a massive, massive tone stack available. Third: to help you I need to understand what it is you are looking for. - Need "umpff" ? Try the DRIVE or STACK pre amp on low gain or add from the OVERDRIVE oOD/DS. Go slow on finding the gain sweetspot. - Need thickness? Add a short digital or analog. Some 20 to 50 ms or so on high wet mix levels. - Need Treble. Use the tone stack I mentioned before. Im getting the best result by a( always have the COMP on at 50 levels, use the second EQ the most, cut back on the BASS levels always. More for humbuckers, add MIDs for cutting through the band mix and add TREBLE according your taste, need and guitar pups. Happy tweeking !!!

Here's the big thing imho: You can get very good sounds out of all of these. But you have to spend some time and tune. The AC30 on the Zoom for example are just not right for me for example. But others like the Bogner can sound fantastic (not in this video though :D) And all these units have pretty weak IR/cab sims. If you play them through an amp or a quality cab sim/IR you get super good tones.

BOSS sounds like something from 90's with muddy and dull sound with no character at all, much like zoom505. Mooer is clearly the best. The main criteria - if you can hear the "air" from the speaker, the sound frequency change from different picking dynamics, stuff like this. Got myself Ampero One as a mobile unit and i have to say it's pretty solid against my POD HD500X, more into BIAS and Axe direction.

@@janhoracek2889 hi mate, I went for a Zoom G3Xn and I’m very happy with it. I use it after compressor, overdrive, distortion and tremolo pedal and use it to turn mono to stereo into the front end of both my amps. It has true bypass when in tuner mode so unless I’m using it it stays in tuner mode so it stays an analog signal into the amp. I tend to use it mostly for modulation effects but for certain songs I’ll also use it for a particular overdrive sound too. Comparing my TS808 against the equivalent in the Zoom it’s remarkably similar, same with my Boss DS2, the Zoom models that pedal well too. The other overdrive effects in the zoom are new to me but if the other pedals are anything to go by I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t be close to the analog pedal too. For the money, I don’t think you could go better 👍

Was planning to buy one of these multifx. The thing I would love about the ME80 is how easy it would be to modify the settings of your tone since it is like a manual pedalboard set up; same thing with the Zoom G5n but somehow I'm preferring the tones of the ME80. But the Mooer GE250 just blows all of them away due to how new the product is. The only problem I see with the GE250 is the learning curve in setting up your tones. Does the GE250 also have a feature like the Boss and Zoom to be in manual pedalboard mode or is it like a bank/patch system that you have to make sure your tones are set before you play live and you can't change them on the fly?

Total utterly nonsense. The BOSS was designed to be a front-of-the-amp pedal, with a simple CAB SIM as option. The BOSS ME80 was actually the first BOSS pedal with two DSPs, like the GE250 has today. Tech is rather the same ... I run the AMP SIM through a decent true amp (Mesa and Fender) and the BOSS pedal sounds - simply - like the BOSS it is. As any pedal you have to learn how to tweak it.

Hi. To be 4eally flexible you need the second EQ on the extra FX block. With the amp EQ params I can t get the AC30 or Bassman amp models to flourish, but adding the second EQ, as if it s in the front of the amp: it makes all the different and let you dial in any tone you look for. A bit like having the V shaped xtra 5 band EQ on quit a few Mesa amps. Makes you can create all the sounds you want. If you have an xtra BOSS EQ pedal lying around, put it in front of your ME80 and your sound options are rather limitless. Im thinking on changing it for the GE300, but I can t get my head to decide: Im sort of afraid I will go back to the ME80 and make an ass of myself to my girl ... ;-)

Boss sounded plastic full stop. Many of these reviews says it outdated, but these are old amps. Zoom seems to be better, though Mooer was better with the Boogie amp and maybe 1 more but that is it. But I have gone for the vox g2 because they make the amps and invented the wah wah. Getting it today.. Obviously the presets have copyright issues, but somebody has made a list of devices emulated for example the compressor used is a MXR Red etc. It may not look as good as the boss me 50, but I am sure it will be authentic. I still have my magic stomp and m audio black box reloaded and they still sound pretty imo. So I trust my instincts, anyway the vox can fit in my pedal board so I get the best of both worlds.

Speaking from personal experience the Mooer is terrible. REALLY terrible.

Why is it terrible in your opinion? I'm thinking about buying the ge 250, especially for the tone/amp capture feature it has.

@@ChrisMusickx I am 60 at my next birthday, that may suggest that I am set in my ways.... However I am a total gear idiot, of all the pedal boards, profilers and actual amps and pedals, I found the Mooer to be very unappealing. The sounds were not good ... the functionality was ... not good. There is so much better gear for the same or less money

@@d4rksoci3ty Hello there, I'm not wise by any stretch of the imagination, but thank you. A very good question and a few hundred examples/answers!!! At the moment I have stopped live playing and concentrated on a home studio. Currently I use a Kemper for many of my recorded sounds, clean guitar and bass guitar being the main usage. Some of the profiles for heavy stuff are really good. On the flip side I use a Marshall DSL 20 with a 2 X12 cab miked with a SM57 and SM58 panned left /right. Into that I have a Boss OD 1, Boss GE7 and a Zoom 509 for some modulation effects. I also have a Orange Dark Terror that is connected to my Captor X using the same pedals. I find most of the "new" multi fx to be over rated, over stated and naff to be honest, I buy them to try them, but soon realise they don't deliver what they promise. There is a very good reason why professional musicians aren't playing live with many of these new fangled toys. Get to basics and find your own way. I used to use a Korg A4 multi board for a good number of years and in todays market I bet that would stand up to all these newbies. It was easy to create very useable and pleasing tones. I hope this helps. Enjoy every day as if it was your last. You never know when your time is up!
