People often praise Justin Hayward's singing, songwriting, guitar playing but Ray's songs are tremendous, timeless and memorable; one of the most beautiful singing voices in Pop/Rock. Rest In Peace and Rock, Ray.

After hearing and admiring them for more than 40 years, I still cannot figure out how they manage to mix classical music and rock, kitsch and talent, being posh and revolutionary, ordinary and great, all at the same time. Thanks Ray.

There were so many times I saw the Moodies I can't even count the number. But one concert Ray wasn't there. I thought he had died. But he just quit the band then some time later suffered cancer and he's in Heaven now playing his flute. RIP Ray you were a great part of the Moody Blues. Bless you!!!!

The Moody Blues were the greatest rock band of the late 60's and early 70's. What talent, at every level of their individual instruments and vocal abilities. Especially Ray Davies, and his flute. That was special, and especially in this tune.

To my ear, Ray's voice got better over the years. It got richer and deeper the older he got. I was blessed to see him and the rest of the Moodies years ago. Had front row seats to boot. And he did the very same performance. Absolutely amazing. One of my best memories.

I know the Moody's would not live forever, but I won't either. Now, with Ray gone I think that the Moody Blues will not be seen touring anymore. Miss you Ray, R.I.P. and thanks for a great long time.

Great performance by Ray Thomas. Considerably better than even the great recorded performance from the album so long ago. This really spotlights Ray's classical skills and composure. Loved it. I will miss Ray. Rest in Peace to a wonderful mind. BTW. Keep in mind that Red Rocks is at over 6,435, feet above Denver, and playing a flute in thin air is a challenge to any wind instrument and vocalist. But Ray did a great job with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra in this special live performance. Thanks Ray. RIP.

Ray wasn't there, of course, but they were still just amazing. It may not be as recognized or as influential as solos such as "Comfortably Numb" or "Stairway to Heaven", but this is one of the most gorgeous, most incredibly executed, and simply chilling solos I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. While others may be praised for musical technique and melody as well they should be, this is one of the few solos that succeeds in actually transporting me to another world almost in music. The fact that it comes from an instrument not normally associated with Rock only makes it that much better. It's simply one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, and arguably one of the most underrated performances out there.

The solo comes in the context of a performance in which Ray Thomas gives his all. And what a solo! He's not classically trained so he creates his own masterpiece. Who else would ever use the flute for rhythm and melody at the same time? And evoke the original studio recording at the end? Amazing stuff, framed by Ray's booming voice.

Along with Chris Wood of Traffic, Ray Thomas was one of the first great flautists in rock... predating Ian Anderson by about a year.

Such a phenomenal band. And an amazing song about a controversial but intelligent figure. When I hear the song I can visualize the vivid effects of the substance described in the lyrics. I am 16 years old, but I love rock music especially progressive and psychedelic rock. My favourite bands are The Doors, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Simon & Garfunkel, obviously The Moody Blues and my #1 all time favourite: Pink Floyd.
