I totally agree with your assesment of the game. After 16 solo plays with just the base game civilizatons, Im still very much looking forward to playing the civilizations in the Lost Kingdoms expansion. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!

Thank you Mike, I am very happy about the dedicated solo mode reviews as the solo mode is an important factor in my purchasing decision. You do a great job at these videos. It's also fun to see you in the Dice Tower chats and ranking videos.

Really good video. Monumental is a good solo game, and I really do like that the AI plays differently depending on what civilisation they are.

can I present a few mistakes I saw? to conquer the lowe left tile, you needed 2 soldiers or 1 soldier and the leader because the tile is 1 and there was a barbarian 1 ; "archive" means putting a card out of the game, "reinforce" means keeping a card for the next turn

Thanks, Mike. This strikes me as a similar solo experience as Scythe. Not game mechanics, but how the automa plays Would you agree?

That's an interesting comparison. I'd say the Automa here is a bit simpler, since you don't have quite as much to account for in terms of movement and combat. Both games contain movement and combat on a map, but Monumental is a bit simpler in how it's implemented.

Mike, you’re amazing, but you cost me money on their next kickstarter!

2 bad things about the AI : it crushes you all the time in Culture and Skills. It always gets the 5 culture cards, and around 15 skills. So if you manage well you could get the 5 culture but that means you'll concentrate a lot of effort on it. 15 skills? you'll never beat that. For culture I simply do as if it would get the culture tokens, 1 for first, 2 for second and on. For skills I still haven't found a way to balance, maybe divide the number AI gets by half or 2/3. Oh and of course the AI will still gain much more money than you and vanquish your 8 troops with only 1 ...

Anyone have any idea of how to buy this game?

There will be a Kickstarter launching June 15th where you will be able to buy the Core Box, Lost Kingdom expansion, and the new expansion, African Empires.
