Monumental defeat for Brexit sparks chaos

Theresa May's Brexit deal has been crushed by a record margin as British lawmakers rejected it by 432 votes to 202.
After eight days of parliamentary debate and 200 speeches, members of the House of Commons ignored the Prime Minister's final pleas and delivered a humiliating verdict on her plan to take Britain out of the European Union.
The result -- the worst parliamentary defeat for a British government in the modern era -- means the Prime Minister now faces a deep political crisis, with no clear path out of the mess.
Speaking moments after May's humiliating defeat, opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn put forward a motion of no confidence in May's government.
Corbyn said the challenge would allow the Commons to "give its verdict on the sheer incompetence of this Government."

When I was living in Britain, I love visiting the Westminster Parliament when they hold a session. It is so much fun watching the origin of the culture and the traditions adopted by our government. You are right. Politics and culture. But I have to admit that the speaker of my country's parliament usually takes control of the floor in a more subtle way than shouting in a tone that would be more suited if he had said... "AARRGGHHH! Do you honestly think we're stupid? The choices of deal, no deal or remain would result in remain, because the leave vote has been split. The decision has already been made. Remain or leave. I voted to leave, I didn't vote for a deal. Stop listening to the scare mongers and traitors and for fuck sake grow a pair!

Whatever the British people want doesn't matter if the EU is unwilling to grant it. You or the House of Commons, whatever party holds it, doesn't have the cards to negotiate a better deal than this. No deal doesn't mean STAY, because now whatever the EU wants will be the deal without any concecions on their part.

Alan Heath THE PEOPLE HAVE HAD A VOTE, THE RESULT WAS TO LEAVE! Shove your 2nd referendum where the sun don't shine! To have a 2nd vote shows more disrespect to politics & the people than not delivering on the result! Example: if man United beat Torquay United and Torquay felt hard done too, would it be right for them to demand a re-match? NO IT WOULDN'T! The box that was ticked on the ballot was LEAVE or remain, it never said anything about deals nor nothing! And while project fear rages on let me point out Toyota have just invested £350M into there plant at Derby, clearly the Japanese can see through project fear! The only reason the likes of Land rover have moved is because the EU funded the move plus back handers, to me that's another reason to leave the Nazis created union of the dictatorship! Except the fact more people in the biggest ever vote in UK politics voted LEAVE! if you cant expect the result the streets have a song for you "dry you eyes mate" We'll be fine without the EU and that's a fact, the UK exports more than it imports for starters! And the EUs single market accounts for 7% of world trade, that means there's 93% of the world awaiting our departure!

Is this massive defeat meta evidence for what the house of commons thinks about the Brexit altogether ? It seems Cameron's biggest mistake was putting it to a public referendum . People voted for Brexit based on populist sentiments and not factual evidence. I just don't know how the UK can win this situation, the most favorable terms for the UK were what they had in the EU. I understand patriotism and love for ones home, but the Brexit is bad for the EU but devastating for the UK. Citizens need to listen to professionals on this matter not their emotions. The UK has heavily survived on colonialism and thereafter commonwealth influence alongside solid trade ties with the EU block mostly in offering finical services. With these gone and motor industry completely decimated a great empire May fall.

To be fair, she's in a no-win position here. Europe had and has a vested interest in making Brexit as painful for the UK as possible. And it should have been pretty clear from the start that anything the British could negociate out of this would not be what the Brexiteers wanted, not even close. So there was no way this wasn't going to end up the way it did. That is not to say that her team didn't botch a good part of the negociations, and the politics around them in general. Reading what David Davis had to say about the negociations sounded laughably arrogant towards the EU. They seemed to not understand that the UK wasn't the one negociating from a position of strenth. But regardless, by this point, Teresa May is expected to steer a ship that is in fact dead in the water. With an iceberg drifting towards it. And I really don't envy her on that.
