Let's hope one day you do have the time to watch the whole film because it is one of the best comedy films ever made. Way ahead of its time especially the "Loretta" scene.

I remember when this film was released. I went to see it in the cinema with a friend. It was brilliant, the cinema was packed and the whole audience couldn't stop laughing... It was banned for a while due to its subject but eventually cleared. Poor Brian, he was in the wrong place at the right time. He wasn't the Messiah, just a very naughty boy.

"I'm guessing Monty Python are the OG of sketches." You might be onto something.

My mum is in her 80s and still loves to watch this film.

We killed ourselves laughing when it first came out in 1979, we saw in in the cinema. Still one of my favorite movies..

It's not even the whole scene - before this they buy the stones (even though the ground is strewn with them), and a false beard from a street vendor plus the main characters are men, playng women pretending to be men ...

Even if you don't react to any more of it, you gotta watch this movie in your spare time, man...because you definitely are missing out on some of the context. One of THE funniest things ever crafted by human beings.

And after you watched it. Watch it again. And then.. Again. The joke-density is SO off the charts you are bound to miss a few the first/second time around.

I did love the men pretending to women pretending to be men comedic vehicle. Truly absurd.

Life of Brian was a great film, really funny, well worth watching, and less stressful than watching the Blues. KRO.

Women weren't allowed to go stoning, hence the fake beards.

The previous scene with the beard seller gets me every time.

This one is from “Life of Brian”, another Monty Python movie. It’s about a dude named Brian who was born the same night as Jesus, about 2 doors down. From then on, Brian and Jesus crossed paths many times, but it’s all from Brian’s perspective.

One of the funniest scenes... they're listening to Jesus but are way in the back...they miss hear what he says and the jokes just spiral...blessed are the peace makers😂😂

First saw this in religious studies class when I was 11 (1992). It was hilarious! :D

The Pythons were very acutely aware of history and loved making it seem mundane. I never tire of watching this and I've seen the film oodles of times. Some of the "issues" they mock are _still_ with us today. Especially the factionalism in the Middle East (and elsewhere) Hopefully you've seen the classic "Biggus Dickus," scene.

The ladies dressed as men are of course played by men dressed as ladies. Very Python 😊

In the transition between the previous scene and this one, Brian's mother (played by one of the Monty Pitons) comments that women cannot participate in stoning (well, they can't actually throw stones, because they could be "at the side"). other side"). So part of the gag is that almost everyone who is there prepared to stone are women (even disguised with fake beards), causing John Cleese's character to ask, "Are there any women here today?" and that's why they have to change the tone of voice and pronouns...

Sadly old gold comedy like Monty Python and others like this won't be allowed to be filmed today.

You missed the introduction to the scene where Brian asks his mother - Why don't they allow women to stonings mum? - because it's written, that's why. Then they stop at a market stall to buy a false beard and some stones. The whole film is brilliant. You should find time to watch it even if you don't do it as a review.

Before the Pythons some of the members worked with the future Goodies on At Last the 1948 Show, after being part of the Cambridge Footlights together. While the Pythons are well remembered The Goodies are often forgotten, despite being just as odd and subversive. If you can find some clips of them they are extremely funny.

This is a brilliant film

Women were not allowed to throw the stones in stoning. They were not to be present during a stoning. The only time a woman was at a stoning was if she was the one being stoned. That’s the main reason why it’s so funny. Monty Python is hilarious. I hope your generation finds it as funny as my generation did.

This scene should have started when Brian and his mother left Jesus on the mount, because his mother wanted to go to the stoning, pausing on route to buy stones and a false beard.

This is another film that I suggest you watch all the way through.

Monty Python were so original and funny. One of my favourite is the Crucifixion one. Where the guard asks the prisoners...Crucification? And the prisoners say yes. Eric idle says Freedom in a real English accent. Watch it. It's funny.😂

Still is. Hard to make a good comedy.

If you'd seen the bit right before this clip, you'd have heard that women weren't allowed to attend stonings. That just meant that the women who _did_ attend stonings were extra enthusiastic about stoning, and also that they went in disguise.

They weren't ahead of their time,its always been this time

The part you missed explained that only MEN were allowed to go to the stoning, but only women actually went.

The whole premise is that only men were able to go to stonings but the women wanted to go too, so they dressed as men. Ironically, the men weren't interested in going.

Christians were outraged across the planet when this film was released.

Whoever made this clip failed to include the set-up with Brian and his Mum. B: Why aren't women allowed to go to stoning? M: Because it's written. That's why. Stone Vendor: [opens robes to reveal fake beards] Beard madam? Woman carrying donkey: Oh, I don't have time to go to no stoning. He's not well again. Without the setup, the joke loses it's context. Legally no women are supposed to be there, but no men bothered to show up (except Brian who is there with his mum). The women were not mad at him for saying Jehovah, they just wanted to kill a man.

When the movie was released they hit the jackpot regards free publicity. A lot of religions around the world tried ban it ! I always loved watching the Roman guards, they look so bored, "oh, not again ..." Ok, wear some nappies for the 'Bigus Dickus' scene cause you'll wet yourself laughing !

The thing to remember about Brian, the subject of the film, was the reluctant Messiah. All he wanted to do was to get laid when he saw this girl. Little did he know that she was a member of an anti-Roman organization. So to get next to her he joined. It went out of control after that. With all the hilarious scenes there was actually a lot of historical fact about the times in the film.

Unfortunately for you,, Reacting to bits & pieces like this is going to kind of spoil parts of these iconic movies for you when you do watch the full movies.

There's a bit later in the film where we see a stand in the local market that sells fake beards. :)

Watch the TV episodes. Monty P always has men dressed up as women to look like fat old bags with silly high voices. And in this scene only men could do any stoning (historically) so they had men (their team) pretending to be women dressed up in beards. Hugely funny. Yeh - what lillymay said below - one of the best comedy films ever (watch it all - Life of Brian) and definitely ahead of it's time with the "Loretta" scene.

If Key & Peele are what you mostly grew up with then you have some things to watch on the future if you like scratch comedy. Examples: The Dave Chappelle, In Living Color, Mad TV, The Kids In The Hall and The Carol Burnett Show. I could go on.

You need to watch the whole film even if for KZread. The controversy at the time was crazy and it got banned in places like Italy, Ireland and Norway. It is listed as the funniest comedy of all time in most polls or occupies the top 5 in most. There is also a beard seller in the movie lol. It’s a dig at organised religion and stupid rules not Christianity or faith and there’s a bit of everything in the movie too.

nah you got it wrong, the women were not mad at what he said, Women are typically not encluded/allowed to be part of acts, so the women were sneaking into the stoning because they wanted in on the fun, that only the men got to have. Had nothing to do with what he said.
