Important questions: What are your favorite parts of the movie? What would your rate it? How does it rank against the other Monty Python films? Favorite part must be the whole chase scene after the hiding scene, where a new religion is created and splinters off into a few different ones. One detail that got stuck from the first watching was the man lingering at the place where the great gourd/shoe debate took place, then aimlessly wandering off. Years later I found out that was the great (now late) Spike Milligan. It kind of gets overshadowed by the full frontal noodlety soon after. RIP Graham Chapman and his noodle. Never forget.

Fun fact: we have George Harrison to thank for this movie. The Pythoners were not able to get financing to make this movie due to what was considered controversial content. George knew some of the members and loved the script, so he bankrolled the cost of making the movie because he wanted to see it. It pays to have a friend who is in the Beatles - LOL. Georgehas a cameo in the movie. I can't remember which scene, but I think he plays one of the members of Judean People's Front. Or maybe he was one of the People's Front of Judea ;). The Alien scene.. There's several theories about why that is in the movie.. One theory is simply that they needed some way to explain how Brian survived the fall from the tower and decided to go wild with it. Another is that its another stab at the religious aspect. Brian is saved by celestial beings, taken to "heaven"(space) and returned to Earth. There's also the fact that this movie came a few years after Star Wars, and several movies tried to ride the coattails of their success. Python could have done it just to say "we got some space stuff too." Basically there's several theories about the aliens. It's worth remembering that the Pythons are very intelligent, so it could be anything from just something they did because it seemed funny to them at the time to something they added to have a deeper hidden meaning.

I think the aliens ship was a referance to "Deus Ex Machina" - the God from the machine. Not the video game series but the trick they used to use in classical greek and roman plays. They would literally have a golden chariot decend from the heavens (on ropes) and pluck the hero out of a situation where he was about to be killed. It represented the favour of the Gods. Theres probably a page on it on Wikipedia.

A bit of fun about Sue Jones-Davies, the actress who played Judith: She was mayor of Aberystwyth (I can't even) from June 2008 to May 2009, and sponsored a charity screening of _Life of Brian._ She was informed that the town banned the film because of her nude scene. The greatest work Python ever did, including the parrot sketch, the Spanish Inquisition or the Holy Grail. The colosseum scene of Loretta's right to have babies, that alone was decades ahead of its time.

I mean no disrespect but i think it was a referance to "Deus Ex Machina" - the God from the machine. Not the video game series but the trick they used to use in classical greek and roman plays. They would literally have a golden chariot decend from the heavens (on ropes) and pluck the hero out of a situation where he was about to be killed. It represented the favour of the Gods. Theres probably a page on it on Wikipedia.

@@ravenmasters2467 That's an interesting take. Deus ex Machina is a well known trope in fiction, but in Monty Python it was clearly a movie reference. The whole point of the movie was movie parodies - bible epics, sword and sandal epics such as Spartacus and the like.

He got himself to the top of the tower and we had to rescue him somehow, so I said, "OK, spaceship for that." That was purely it. It was funny, because this was at the time when Star Wars had just come out. I remember meeting George Lucas at the baggage roundabout in the San Francisco airport, and I said, “This was my chance to do a mini Star Wars episode.” ... so it's 100% confirmed now.
