Can you plant a Mission and Manzanilla in the ground and dwarf prune it to 10' and still get olives? Or does it want to put on new growth instead of olives? Does putting olives in containers stunt their growth? Someone told me to plant the olive tree in the ground with a large pot with drain hole. Thanks.

Oleander Europea - that's the only variety that will survive in the UK & will be the only one you'll see on sale. The others would die in our Winters.

There is no precise rule, it depends on the variety of olive tree, here in Italy we have plants generated with the Margotta technique, buried in pots and then on the ground they already generate olive fruits for oil we are talking about plants with little more than 1 year and a half of life, obviously the quantity is limited because we are talking about a young and small plant but already producing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iH6C0KqCY73PhJM.html

How old are the olive trees in this video? We received one as a gift which looks about the same size but we have no idea how old it is…

Guessing but based on my own plants, I’d say it’s about 2 years

The plant in the video could be up to three years old, if we have to count from when it was born and therefore from the method with which it was generated, for Talea or Margotta, with the Talea the seedlings with a semi-woody body, do not exceed 10/20 cm therefore the growth after rooting, is much longer to have a plant as in the video, while with the layering technique, we have a branch of the mother plant that must be at least 1 year old and already reaches one and a half meters, then the roots after about 4/6 months, when it is separated from the mother plant and buried, it has already acquired 40 to 50 cm, so this has reached one meter and eighty centimeters or two meters in a year and a half of life. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iH6C0KqCY73PhJM.html

I think if it’s in too big a pot it will concentrate on growing roots rather than growing upwards, which is why you ought to do it incrementally.
