Etymology of Turkish months: Ocak (January) = Turkic origin, it means "fireplace" in Turkish Şubat (February) = Aramaic origin, name of the 11th month of Aramaic calendar Mart (March) = Latin origin, from the name of Mars, God of War Nisan (April) = Aramaic origin, name of the 1st month of Aramaic calendar, this word actually exists in Sumerian, Akkadian etc. meaning "fresh harvest" Mayıs (May) = Latin origin, from the name of Maia, Goddess of blooming plants Haziran (June) = Aramaic origin, it means "hot" in Aramaic Temmuz (July) = Aramaic origin, it is actually the name of Sumerian God Dumuzi & Akkadian God of Tammuz Ağustos (August) = Latin origin, from the name of Roman emperor Augustus Eylül (September) = Aramaic origin, it means "grape" in Aramaic Ekim (October) = Turkic origin, it means "sowing" in Turkish Kasım (November) = Unknown, can be Arabic origin meaning "dividing" or can be Turkic origin meaning "getting tight" Aralık (December) = Turkic origin, it means "interval, gap, space" in Turkish Although many months have Aramaic origin (actually Syriac-Aramaic, and their histories go back to old Mesopotamian civilizations like Sumerian, Babylonian, Akkadian etc), these names are mostly borrowed by Turkish through Arabic language. Therefore, these month names are also similar in Arabic month names.

Wow... Hebrew and Syriac use these names as well. Shvat (shevat), nissan, hzeiran (only Syriac), tammuz, elul (only Hebrew).

Mart: Mártios, Mayıs: Máios, Ağustos: Ávğustos, it's the same with Greek but you say it's Latin, because you don't want to admit you learned it from us!!! Lol I've seen it in a Turkish textbook. And Aralık in Greek means chilling out, so when we hear December we imagine you lie down and take it easy 🤣🤣🤣
