I have a drawer full of ikea rags in the kitchen in place of paper towels. Haven’t bought PT’s since before pandemic. Our TP is a subscription service and it’s eco friendly and significantly cheaper than major brands in stores. Very friendly to our budget.

We are at $600 a month for 4 but that includes everything they sell at Walmart. So if I get car stuff, school supplies, or a clothing item then that is in there too.

One of the ways we save money on personal care is by buying a large bottle of body wash that everyone can use. It’s a cleaner ingredient one and typically lasts us almost 5 months, even though it’s 6 people using it.

I always shop weekly with the sales ads and then go to the lowest price store for the rest of the stuff I need. I do also go to Costco occasionally but I feel like I bust my budget when I go there. Too many fun things to try 😅

It was good to see more shopping at other stores. I think you would be surprised how much money you could save if you bought more of your things from a regular grocery store. Costco is not always cheaper, and some things are a waste to buy in bulk. I have select things I buy at Costco, but shop at regular stores and the sale ads normally.

If the bigger bag of potatoes are cheaper per ounce. I buy the bigger bag, and bake some, cool and then shred into hash browns for the freezer. I also make mashed potatoes and freezer in gallon ziplock bags layed flat. They thaw and reheat really well.

Thanks for showing how real the struggle is! Just when I think I have a new grasp on prices they go up again. At this point, the grocery budget is no longer where I can cut. The only way to save more money in the food budget right now for us is to do pantry challenges so I've been doing the last week of each month like that.

Shopping weekly saves so much more money. You shop the weekly ad sales and you can even stock up on the sale items your family uses to save even more money down the road. Helps you avoid having to cut back on groceries to save money. Some people think its a pain but with the hard work its really pays off and it helps you build your pantry 🙂

I've been wondering if this might save money. It is really interesting to hear you say so. What I've been finding in the last number of months is that I see a good sale and I can't take advantage of it because I already spent most of my money on my monthly haul. I plan to try weekly shopping for October. I'm excited to see how it helps.

  • @meilinadamski4665

@@rosannasauereisen2827 what I do weekly is I shop my pantry and freezers to see what meals I can come up with during the week. Then I go over to the weekly ads and see what deals there are and I make meals from that if I can. I also try to include some stock up items if I can if there are some pretty good deals. Try coming up with a weekly budget. Then try this method shopping weekly. You may find that you have to tweak things a little as you go. I find that I save money this way because I can grab some pretty good deals weekly instead of paying full price and just going once a month. It may not be for everybody but it's something to try.🙂

I also prefer to shop monthly for my large family. I keep $55/wk for milk, bread, etc but I’ll often have several weeks where I don’t go to town so shopping sales isn’t a great solution for me. I’ll grab sale items when I go into the store but other than our small local store, Sams, Walmart, Schnucks are all 45min away. I’ve picked up your habit of writing the amounts next to each item. Helps tremendously.

Isn't it better to shop and meal plan based on what's on sale ?? And buy 2 of the regular household items when they are on sale? The garbage bags are 5 dollars less and so is the soap on constant sale rotation.

I tried that, but a bunch of sales items would be out of stock and my meal plan was ruined. I like to meal plan based on what I have and shop the sales to stock up for future months.

We don’t buy body washes, we use bar soap. We use towels & wash clothes vs paper towels. We don’t buy ‘kid treats/snacks’ at all instead we use real foods. We never buy bottle drinks. We shop in season and stock up then. Never buy meat at Costco, crazy pricey! No ‘packaged’ foods, just fresh foods. No name brands soaps or detergents. We use sheet laundry soap now.

Its so good to see when you write the new price on your list and its lower. I think its highlighting that prices are coming down for some items. One thing I do now is I get an extra container of organic strawberries and will wash dry and then freeze them. We would always buy the Kirkland brand ones but it took us so long to get through them before my family would get tired of them. Id rather do this for a smaller portion and get through the frozen fruit faster than have them tire of it before we finish the bag. $540 is amazing for San Diego.

August was our stock up month since so many kid things are on sale at Costco and Costco business. Including diapers and wipes. Still at $125 per person but usually closer to $100 per person. Next month will be lower since we stocked up this month!

I started pre-pricing my lists before I went shopping like you do. It has helped a lot. I sometimes cross stuff out before I even go to the store. I like how you added things that were extra in store though. I think I need to do a better job of marking down prices in store so I can see if I need to cut more while I’m there!

Yes the dollar stores have very inexpensive reuseable bags in snack & sandwich size, so affordable that even if your kid loses it be ok; premade meals too much $$ , buy reg. garden carrots over baby carrots & pre shredded cheese are also too much $$. Could also buy washable bar mop cloths instead of ppr towels > so many ways to save!!!!

What are your thoughts on getting fresh fruits and vegetables at farm stands? Also, I've noticed that pick-your-own farms, they now charge people to go into their orchards. Blueberry picking was $4.50 per pound this year so we didn't go this year. :(

I always feel I need to spend $30-40 bc my 3 kids are usually invited to the parties, and they are usually at pricey places like trampoline parks etc. I have started buying toys when they are on clearance and using those.

One of the things we gave up to save a few bucks is bottled body wash. We buy the nice (sometimes even locally made) body bar soap now. One bar lasts over a month. I bought a pack of them at Costco for like 12$ and it’s enough for me, and my daughter for a year. Takes no space and no plastic bottles.
