Monte Walsh: The Last Cowboy CLIP

Monte Walsh and his friends are cowboys and bronco busters, plying their trade in the Wyoming Territory of 1892. The advancement of civilization has all but rendered Monte obsolete, but Monte doesn't want to change his ways. With the corporate buy-ups of Wyoming land, Monte and his friends may be forced to move on.

My three favorite scenes are the cook getting even, the railroad fight and the bunkhouse fight. Yes you are so right about the heart this movie has. Nobody sits a horse like Monty Walsh

I couldn't agree more.... Re-makes are mostly awful. I have gotten to where I appreciate the True Grit re-make however. It's not BETTER than the original, but it stands on it's own merits.

True classic. A goodbye to cowboys and classic cowboy movies. We might get a few westerns like it here and there, but the age of this sort of movie is gone - like the cowboys it portrays.

He also is imitating a character (Monte Walsh) in a manner that totally disregards the actual Monte. Sure, Selleck is a great actor in his own right, but he was given a script that was based on a great novel by Jack Schaefer, and the movie has thrown the book in the trash, and made it the Tom Selleck Show, instead of Monte Walsh. They don't even slightly resemble each other.

The entire existence of "Monte Walsh" as a character is based on the magnificent novel by Jack Schaefer (also the author of "Shane") and, as good and entertaining as the movies may be, they are essentially a Butcher Job by the Hollywood Meat-Grinder of the very elaborate and wide scope of the book. It is a shameful and abhorrent destruction of the work of Jack Schaefer, without whom Monte Walsh would never have been available for Hollywood to mangle his bones. BAH !

They are Both a hatchet job of the great novel by Jack Schaefer, and bear only a passing resemblance to the real Monte Walsh. The total reinvention of an author's great work is nothing to be proud of. Like making Abraham Lincoln over into a dishwasher on the Titanic. Rubbish.
