Stick to what you know Steve. Been stopping at 50,000 Silver Dollars for 30 years. GREAT STOP!! Mouth watering Rainbow Trout, great local people. A place where you can walk in after being away six months and they see you and yell “where you been”. You should meet the owners, great folks with a lot of events year round.

Sat here in my recliner in Southern Spain enjoying a beautiful ride in a real truck in Montana. Great scenery, interesting conversation, life is good. By the way I once spent a whole year in the USA in an old Mini Winnie Winnibago RV just moving on where life took me, enjoyed Montana, enjoyed the whole damned year. Now 81 YEARS old and enjoying travelling via the Internet. Thankyou.

Haven't trucked in thirty years. In my 20s and into my 30s I ran that stretch of road dozens of times. Including in the late 70s and early 80s when a lot of it was still two lane between Missoula and Lookout. In fact, as they were building the "new" (at the time) four lane of I 90, we ran over Camel Hump road which heads west out of St Regis there and came back out on the already completed I 90 over by Henderson there. This video really took me back. I saw a few rigs rolled over in the "curvy' stretch there just east of where you spent the night. One was upside down in the river, a big shiny Pete conventional chicken hauler as I recall. Thanks for the video.

Freeway runs along a lot of the original Milwaukee Road route, lot interesting history related to that line. Since you asked, I had property and a house/shop on Hwy 12 @ Myrtle, just over the hill from Haugan, well a little farther. I had a aluminum hull jet boat w/a strong V-8 and pimped out side by side to cruise the many miles of forest roads. Took several trips to Avery ID, where the Milwaukee had a big shop facility, it's all gone now but the original road beds and many tunnels can be traveled on, go all over the area on the forest roads, get way back. Bought my place in 05, developed it and aged out in 19, got too old to hack the 1800 mile commute from Germantown to Lewiston. Route was turn south @ Missoula down 93 to 12 west 200 miles of twisty turns along the rivers to our house @ Myrtle. Watching this content really brings me back, spent a good bit of time in the area on the side by side, St. Regis, Wallace, Avery. Miss it a lot, getting old sucks balls.

It is how I am able to explore and get to know our country, through the eyes of the truckers and the videos that many of you share. Thank you Steve for sharing and taking the time to share.

That was my run in the 80's. Minnesota to the northwest. Back and forth. And they paid me for it. I felt sheepish and guilty. Light traffic also. My absolute top was taking the shortcut south from Bozeman instead of I 15. Through West Yellowstone and a sliver of the Park. Driving my 80,000 snow machine in stunning white landscape. And grooves plowed in the ice for traction. They go back and forth on allowing trucks on that route.

Welcome to Montana! The railroad line you were following is the old electrified line for the Milwaukee Road that was shut down in 1980. Here in Montana, there are plenty of things to do in all four seasons: Winter season, Fishing season, Road construction season, and hunting season. The biggest attraction is of course tourism but primarily hunting and fishing.... and drinking! The state parks are beautiful.

I hauled gravel for 1.5 years in a 75 Pete COE with a 350 Cummins w/13 speed. That truck had been really nice but had been severely mistreated before I got it. A lot of memories. Hey Steve, I want to thank you for posting this today because I really needed to hear some words of encouragement because I just found out repainting my truck is going to be way more expensive then I was thinking it was going to be and so I'm really upset about how this country is a place that gouges the shit out of you faster than you can make money over the holidays and the entire year to spend. It just took my sails down and then I heard your words of encouragement and also got some great news about more work coming up for me which helps bring up the spirits. Montana between the border of Idaho and Billings cannot be beat when it comes to gorgeous scenery and knowing you're somewhere where you feel serene and free of everything which bugs you.

You had to went thru Drummond Mt. There used to be scales on the west side of town. Anyway my brother lives just south of there a few miles. Thanks for bringing me back. That stream by the highway is the Clark river. It dumps into the Snake river. At Drummond take the Pintlar Senic highway to Anaconda. Half way or so is a town called Phillipsburg, and just outside of town in the summer, the Sapphire mines are open. It's extremely attractive up there, and finding gem sapphires is a bonus for a summer vacation. At the sapphire mines you pay a small fee for a bucket of creek gravel, the you shake it in a sluce, and the sapphires and maybe gold are heavier and settle to the bottom, then you flip the sand over and pick the sapphires out. They look like glass beads, but they are real natural sapphires. You keep what you find.

@Jeff I'm in the Poconos. We like it a lot. It's not depressing. Pa is a great place to live unless you are stuck in some depressed coal town. But these places do not represent the great majority of Pa. I've been to Florida in summers several times. It's horrible there. The heat is horrific. I've been to the southwest. Beautiful but no forests, mountains , etc. I couldn't live there. Typical winters where we live, but I am a North Woods guy, having grown up in Northern Maine. No, PA is a beautiful state. It's all perspective, family, and experience.

Back in the day my dad shared a shop with someone. It burned to the ground. It is a sad thing when that happens. You lose your trucks, you lose your tools, your equipment, the whole deal.

That part of Montana was served by the old Milwaukee Road Pacific Coast Extension that was built way to late into the 20th century served no major towns and when the mines closed for the copper industry lost 90% of all their revenue that was on the line.

Yep guys it west Hartford ct made sure this 20 year old kid back in 1978 got a set of Jake Brakes. Out the back door. Great guys . Lived only 12 miles from the manufacture. Back in the day wagon always had 100,000 lbs. they worked great on the old Cummins… much better than other manufacturers retarders . Nice videos……
