On this episode of high gain amps we will be demoing bernie rico guitars.
I just had to come back on here to say, if you're looking for an amp for metal, you should really go into a store and test one of these out for yourself. Honestly, all the vids here on youtube do no justice for this absolutely brilliant amp. I just bought mine a week ago, and it's bloody MONSTROUS. The Clean channel is perfect, Drive channel really is as dynamic as they say, and both the Ultra channels are huge sounding. I personally like Ultra II, which is definitely your more American (Mesa) distortion. It just sounds massive, while still getting that sharp attack that you just don't get with other amps. I simply can't say enough about this amp. Just get one. :)

Yep, still got it and still love it. There are definitely other great amps out there, and I'm not gonna say others could possibly sound a little better, depending on taste, but the thing which makes me love this amp, is all the things you can do with it. It's really performed well both in the studio, and on stage.

@@lifeleechidk man I bought one not too long ago and damn I can’t solo through it, it’s way too ice picky and scrappy sounding
Misha's best tone of all the Monsters of High Gain videos
What a great video series, just stumbled across it 😄🤟🏼
Best magazine, best reviews.......! I just love PGs channel! :)
"And there's also a boost..."
How do I get the delay settings from 5 min 40? Sounds great!
"...There's also a boost"
Misha's shirt is so METAL!!! BRUTAL SMILEYS
so far this amp is the best.. a very versatile amp.. tasty tone.. all the gain you need, on board "quality" FX's and the clean channel sounds fantastic, these two players sounded the most musical and best on this amp so far... plus this amp remembers presets on a flas card? How cool is that? oh oh another amp I must buy... there goes the rent money again.. but how many months worth I wonder?
Those delay riffs were pretty damn sweet
whats the song at 5:39???
I like very much the clean channel
@rampageatdawn hey! i'm considering this amp, and a mesa roadster. no shops around my area have it. using the roadster as a base point, how do the 4 channels compare between the two?
that shit misha was playing at the end sounded pretty cool who's the other guy?
Can you set different volume levels for each channel ? . This amp does sound nice but I really need my lead channel to be a good bit louder when soloing .

Stewart Crawford every preset has independent volume. From memory I think you can store 128 different presets using any channel. Amazing amp. Really regret getting rid of mine
@rampageatdawn this sounds really low ended on here i'm just wanting to know if it has a decent mid/high range too.
The delay riffs were actually pretty cool. But anyway, this amp is hard to tack down, at least on the major music sights.
5:39 - Jake Bowen - Dreamless or kinda inspired by that song.
Being able to store presets but have the amp FULL TUBE ...... now that is a feature I have wanted for YEARS
@Sean2592 I do believe the band Annihilator uses these exclusively on their new album and they're a thrash band, so that may better represent the sound for you.
@rampageatdawn do you have the same cabinet?
this seems to be the best sounding in the series
Misha is cool
Could you make a video with kustom double cross?
What is that t-shirt misha is wearing? Ive seen it a few times around.
what does he play at 5:40 ?? its really bugging me also!
Yes, tube-driven reverb on a handwired eyelet-board construction amp so if it would happen to fail (which it hasn't in its 47 years of existence), it would be relatively easy to fix. If this monstrosity's reverb failed you can be sure finding the cold solder joint or bad component responsible would be like finding a needle in a haystack. They're not built to last.
Misha after 6:00 ' Yeah thats right bitches im the man '
I don't know what people are complaining about, it has a fast gate, tight bottom end and very articulate solo/crunch tone, not to mention the cleans sound absolutely fantastic. There was a lot of treble in their rhythm demos, but that's purely the settings.

I bought one not too long ago and I thought that at first and than you really start to hate it because soloing through it sounds horrible cause of the ice picking noise and everything.
hey cheers for the reply, but i dont think its that solo! its the bit that Misha plays on the clean delay channel that starts at 5:40 of the vid!
Pretty cool sounding
@Sean2592 I do believe the band Annihilator uses these exclusively on their new album and they're a thrash band, so that may better represent the sound for you. Indeed, Jeff Waters has a video as a suggestion to this vid, and I'd check that out.
I thought it would have more than 3 AX7 Pre-Amp tubes. No wonder the Peavey 6505+ screams GAIN. I think it has 6 or 7 pre-amp tubes.
its so cool how the amp lights up at 3:50
@deathcore1239 Clean boosting. Helps get rid of the mud, cut some bass, and increase note definition.
I hope you know that the micro position greatly impacts on the quality of the recorded sound=)
@rampageatdawn its could just be because of the bass overloading the mic .. cause remember the mic will be doing the tone no justicee at all .
@KillswitchEngage4eva I can't think of a tube amp for metal that doesn't sound better with lowered boosted by a tube screamer.. It makes it sound cleaner, tube screamers aren't trying to make an amp sound "Heavier". Killswitch Engage always uses a tubescreamer btw ;]
Who are house guys?
They have a very similar picking technique, but yeah, Ola´s great at testing:)
at 4:26 is he playing a song or just jamming?
@rampageatdawn I have used cabs with lead80 speakers in them, and it has never had the sound which matches much related to the kind of music i play. I played 5 cabs before i decided on mine, and i wouldnt go with anything that didnt have v30's. I converted my other guitarist to v30s from gt1275's and he has never looked back. But its all up to you, look into the avatar cabs and see if they can do the speakers you want (they are awesome cabs and very affordable)
i didint get the pick thing, u put a pick in there and the tubes match, whats is that??? ive heard this amp and the mesa and im confused, cleaner distortion against all the amazing shit in this amp
wow they look so excited..
@Takeskyggen they do NOT scoop their mids, the amp is just muddy as fuck, maybe due to the mic used idk...maybe the douche from Thousand Foot Crutch scoops his mids, but not Misha he says it in countless interviews that he keeps his mids relatively high..
Dude, you're getting your fingerprints all over my knobs
Decent amp but it's one of Hughes & Kettner's lower end amps. If you want to really see what a Hughes & Kettner can do play the Triamp MK2 or the Trilogy for the best H&K tones.
@ESPsandEmgs because technicality is the only desirable quality in music, right?
Anything wrong with Meesh?
Sounds like it's exactaly the same as the H&K Switchblade.
You have to remember. What we are hearing in these demos is in no way what those amps are really sounding like in the room. What we hear is the mic'd cab(with sm57 looks like). I'm guessing they are not mixing in a room mic with this and it's that mic;d speaker 100%. Of course you're going to get muddiness, or fizziness. Speakers have so much to do with the tone you're going to hear recorded, as well as mic placement. The settings on the amp aren't as important when it comes to wat were hearing
IMO, this amp is the best sounding in the series. Ty's guitar esp sounds good with it, I like his demo of the clean channel. I'd sure love to play with it! Maybe after I win the Mega millions lotto, eh?! lol. Now we need to see someone really going apeshit with it.
I think this and the Freyette were the two best. They had the MOST versatile, full, crisp, and just nice tones.
@ESPsandEmgs yeah you definitely overthought that by a longshot, people like him because he puts together good songs and grooves, i personally like his riffs and solos, but im not up at nights waiting for the Misha Mansoor Djent Method Series
@rampageatdawn I think they took too much from the mids. It could be that guy from TFK's pick ups. Hughes and Kettner make awesome stuff, so I think it might be a "them" problem.
That is your rightful oppinion. :) Have a nice day :)
Did Misha REALLY need the TS9 for the Ultra I and II channels? i mean honestly?
WOW......The last one I hear from all the reviews, and the best sounding one. Versatile as well, no other amp offers the usb storing feature, neither some decent basic Fx. This might be the 2200 dollars better spent of all time.
If you like onboard effects mayhaps you should check out Line 6' Spider series??
I thought they said the two players had different styles.
at 6:01 he's like "sup bitch."
No clue who that is but that cat probably has an amp tech to make sure his amp is in tip-top shape every single night, as well as the financial backing to tour with multiple backup heads. Your average player does not. Therefore, ideally, your average player would want an amp with less things that can malfunction during a gig. This amp does not have that.
my god i love kettners..........
@ThroughFallenEyes why need 4 channels??? i suggest you to try out a bogner überschall 2 or 3 channels totally enought no need for 4 and mesa roadster not the best for me , if i would choose i would buy diezel vh4s
@fretfanaticno1 Listen to both bands, they are both different.
@ESPsandEmgs He isn't very technical? dude?! have you heard the solo in breeze?
The introducer looks like jim's dad in american pie
@ESPsandEmgs Although admittedly he has pretty good tone :3
I have a '99 Vox AC30TBX and '67 Fender Super Reverb. High-gain amps aren't my cup of tea to begin with, but certainly not ones with built-in effects. If somebody has a couple grand to drop on an amp such as this they should have enough money to get pro-quality chorus, delay, flanger etc. Leave onboard effects to beginner amps.
thank god my HD500 knows it all :) (including the sound of course)
But he demos the amp before he puts the tubescreamer on. He just shows how the amp reacts with a pedal
dang... I want tabs for that last riff misha plays! haha SUHWEET.
So... many...options!!
So many freaking settings on that amp O_O
@ESPsandEmgs Misha would probably be the first to say he isn't the most accomplished guitar player ever, in fact he does a few times in other videos on KZread. I hope you feel better after getting that off your chest though, now go listen to some Periphery...
I'm sorry but this amp does NOT need a fucking tube screamer. Holy shit this is heavier than the meas boogie WITH the tube screamer
so its a line 6 spider...
Yes, you read correctly, I'm saying exactly that. Plus Twisted Sister is a fucking awesome band name.
I feel like I'm sitting in Guitar Center right now.
idk, it feels like im in a racecar when i here misha play.
@ESPsandEmgs Misha is known for his composition and ear. His ability is definitely up there, but listen to periphery's music and the great producing paired with it. He's a talented musician in more than his technicality and your bashing of him is pretty shallow
I'm not sure I care for H&K's cabinets. I would have liked to hear the bottom speakers, but, being familiar with H&K heads, I'm not sure the amp is to blame here as much as the cab & micing.
Too many electronics, something is bound to fail...udder than that, sounds cool.
Digital effects, "digital presets", USB drives = more things to go wrong with an amp at a gig. I'll leave delay and other effects to my EFFECT PEDALS. If you don't mind built-in effects then may I suggest a Line 6 amp? Hughes & Kettner are selling you a gimmick and you're eating it up.
Everyone hating on these review, look how it's mic'd, the outcome here is totally a result of the engineers, both of these players achieve phenomenal tone on their own, but in this one series of vids that aren't engineered by them, they sound like shit. It's apparent that it's not their fault but the fault of the ppl doing the audio.
@CRAZYSTOO What's wrong with Misha, or Jeff? Stop trolling and stop watching.
Coffey, like the drink only spelled different.
I meant playing heavy as in he is more "metal" sounding and he has a more aggressive playing style. Misha is very melodic overall and doesn't sound that brutal compared to Ola.
i actually liked the last clean riff by ty
@5:30 DREAMLESS By jake Bowen of periphery :D
5:36 Jamming repeat to learn it haha
Ty may not be an amazing guitarist but he knows his guitars!
@ESPsandEmgs Based on what obvious facts? You haven't given any! You wouldn't be re-explaining, you'd just be explaining. I haven't insulted any musicians (doing what exactly?), I'm not a fanboy, I don't even really like Periphery, I just take exception to people spreading ignorant hate with nothing to back it up.
that riff at 5.40 .... :o
Ламповая ГОЛОВА!!!
@PPPatrickWWW Haha, I bet you're right. I'd probably be playing the same way by that point.
That's what she said
@deathcore1239 I'm just a fan of the more melodic style of solo ie Roger Walters, Adam Jones etc. I can appreciate the skill and technique in shredding being a guitarist myself but it just doesn't 'sound' good to me.
This amp was so muddy. I recently had a Hughes and Kettner and had to sell it...it was just way too muddy. The cleans were awesome, but the gain was no good.
