These are always super fun, but in a real match you don't see them often. Tight sets = bad idea (get blocked easily, less shot options, and high % of net violation). However, it is awesome when a setter is so good that his/her attackers have no blockers or a 1-on-1 opportunity. That's basically the only time you see "straight down" spikes in high level play.

Touching the NET after the Ball has touched the Ground is not a fault normaly. But in a game it can be hard to determine wich happened first.

San Diego State had a club teams player years ago when I was in school. He came to play when we were up in Chico. During warmups he could bounce the ball so hard and vertically that you'd swear it would almost hit the gym lights. He turned out to be something of a one trick pony but damn he did that trick well.

The floating is just an illusion. Sprints and squats will certainly help you achieve a big vert. Like loot said, genes and jump technique help too.

Watching these boys jump over the net and spike the ball reminds me of back home. I played volleyball either our coaches put me under the net to set up the ball, spikes, or serve. The muscle and bones grind like crazy every time I jump to spike the ball. The 3rd meter back home we call it; (chang nge mwet). Fly high as you can. Great job.

Most of those are just falling balls, the only one really extremely impressive was the one at 3:00. That setup was perfect. The ball didn't linger in the air longer than necessary, it was still on its apex for the spike (unlike the others where the ball is falling and accelerating)... beautiful

Most of these spikes are powerful, but they would not work very well in a match. However, there are some pearls (the one near the 3 min mark is fucking perfect).

3 meter spikes are to good to see in warmups but believe me in real matches they get blocked very easily.

Sorry, but lots of the clips (practice) are fake. They don't use mens net hight (2.43 meters)... Only womens height which is 2.24. That means it's much easier to get a 3-meter spike...

Doughie TF are you talking about ? OFC net height does the thing. Go make 3-rd meter spike on tennis net and be a hero. Same thing here. I've been playing volleyball for 14 years and 19cm difference between men's and women's net is a lot. And yeah, practice spike don't count. It is a way how kiddos increase their ego but in the game, where you have to pass through a block...not a single 3rd meter spike from them. Pathetic

I mean, Spike something at 3 meters might sound crazy but it isn't, usually professional players hit it at 3.5 or 3.7 meters (we usually hit it at like 3.1 or 3.3 on college/university level)

I had a guy in high school who used to smash balls like this and it gave someone a grade 3 concussion. The dude was completely laid out. The whole gym just went silent. It is crazy how hard people can hit.

Problem: When not in the game, the setter can just put the ball straight above the upper part of the net. As a way above average player (but nowhere near national or international level) player I could even hit it within the 1 meter line. But ingame that ball would be blocked very easily.

However, it is awesome when a setter is so good that his/her attackers have no blockers or a 1-on-1 opportunity. That's basically the only time you see "straight down" spikes in high level play.

Touching the NET after the Ball has touched the Ground is not a fault normaly. But in a game it can be hard to determine wich happened first.

San Diego State had a club teams player years ago when I was in school. He came to play when we were up in Chico. During warmups he could bounce the ball so hard and vertically that you'd swear it would almost hit the gym lights. He turned out to be something of a one trick pony but damn he did that trick well.

The floating is just an illusion. Sprints and squats will certainly help you achieve a big vert. Like loot said, genes and jump technique help too.

Watching these boys jump over the net and spike the ball reminds me of back home. I played volleyball either our coaches put me under the net to set up the ball, spikes, or serve. The muscle and bones grind like crazy every time I jump to spike the ball. The 3rd meter back home we call it; (chang nge mwet). Fly high as you can. Great job.

Most of those are just falling balls, the only one really extremely impressive was the one at 3:00. That setup was perfect. The ball didn't linger in the air longer than necessary, it was still on its apex for the spike (unlike the others where the ball is falling and accelerating)... beautiful

Most of these spikes are powerful, but they would not work very well in a match. However, there are some pearls (the one near the 3 min mark is fucking perfect).

3 meter spikes are to good to see in warmups but believe me in real matches they get blocked very easily.
Sorry, but lots of the clips (practice) are fake. They don't use mens net hight (2.43 meters)... Only womens height which is 2.24. That means it's much easier to get a 3-meter spike...

Doughie TF are you talking about ? OFC net height does the thing. Go make 3-rd meter spike on tennis net and be a hero. Same thing here. I've been playing volleyball for 14 years and 19cm difference between men's and women's net is a lot. And yeah, practice spike don't count. It is a way how kiddos increase their ego but in the game, where you have to pass through a block...not a single 3rd meter spike from them. Pathetic

I mean, Spike something at 3 meters might sound crazy but it isn't, usually professional players hit it at 3.5 or 3.7 meters (we usually hit it at like 3.1 or 3.3 on college/university level)

If you watched the clip literally 5 seconds earlier you can clearly see what he does to a mens regulation net. Hes smashing that shit regardless of the height, dude has like a 45 inch vert.
I had a guy in high school who used to smash balls like this and it gave someone a grade 3 concussion. The dude was completely laid out. The whole gym just went silent. It is crazy how hard people can hit.
I used to train and play with a few former national players as a setter/libero. Power hitter would regularly hit from back court inside the 3m line. 💥

Problem: When not in the game, the setter can just put the ball straight above the upper part of the net. As a way above average player (but nowhere near national or international level) player I could even hit it within the 1 meter line. But ingame that ball would be blocked very easily.
Even if some of these don't count.. DANG THEY GOT SOME POWER LEGS

Michał Stefanowicz Well at PE manual it says its only foul to touch the top white part of the net. And i used to play volleyball and it wasnt foul to touch the net, only the top part.
