Monster Tower | World Record Building Demolition | BlowDown | Free Documentary

Ойын-сауық

World Record Tower Demolition: An engineering marvel gone horribly wrong deals CDI their strangest challenge yet: demolish a brand new hurricane-proof tower. It’s a shot at a world record - the tallest concrete reinforced building ever to be imploded. Thirty-one storeys high, Ocean Tower’s three massively-reinforced cores boast 30 inches of concrete and rebar. But this robust construction came with a twisted cost - this heavy super structure is sinking into South Padre Island’s soils. The team’s never encountered anything like this: a building on a faulty foundation, perilously close to brand-new residential developments and ecologically fragile dunes. To drop it, they’ll have to push demolition engineering to its limits. It could be a world record - or a world-class disaster.

The Structural Engineer did an awesome job (so strong, can hardly be blown up), the Geotechnical Engineer failed at his job and undersized the deep foundations. What a shame to have to blow up such a heavy duty tower, and waist all that effort of the construction crew who constructed this.

I agree. Such a waste of a finely designed and constructed building, when the substrate and foundation was not thought out well, for whatever reason. I surely don't know the whole story, but we are told, and have been taught, for thousands of years, not to build on weak and shifting sands.

Great job! A little off target but no damage to adjacent properties. Alot of brain power and expertise plus alot of sweat to pull this off. My hat's off to those who worked the columns on the upper floors in that wind. Would have been nice to have a drone on the roof and pull away as the building fell recording video from above. Could clearly see the intact upper core in the ground video though. Excellent execution!
