Holy fuck, i always choose raw even tho its not the best option, in GU i use GS, in mh4u i use lance which is better if you use element, but fuck no, i just use brachy and tigrex lance.

I personally consider some of his pros to _be_ cons, but that's a values judgement. If your goal in Monster Hunter is "get into cool battles with massive kaiju", then MHWs changes will be just what you're looking for. If you're playing for a detailed and semi-realistic take on slaying monsters, it's moving a bit away from that. Doesn't mean it won't still be a blast to play, just that the focus has shifted more to the combat, and away from the grittiness.

Another thing that I would like to say is I kinda like how the monsters have this hierarchy now when before they would feel like they were just clipping each other with attacks now you get full on battles for territory between two monsters which makes you feel like they're actually animals trying to survive than just another boss fight. Just something I enjoyed that I wanted to add

This review pretty much mirrors my thoughts on the game. One of my favorite things about how the gathering is better: Remember when killing Aptonoths and Apceros to get raw meat? Remember landing the killing blow and having to wait for them to actually DIE while they do their death flailing? No more. They hit the ground, twitch once and are ready for carving. I'm still going through the story right now but I do hope to eventually see you online, Jared!

The negative point you talked about, with not having everything explained thoroughly counts as a positive to me. Too many games fall prey to the trope that they need to hold the player's hand through everything. Some games just benefit from having these grey areas to allow players to explore and discover features, making them feel like they accomplished something. On the other hand, one weakness you didn't bring up, is the online play. As it stands, there is a severe issue with it where players that have not seen all the cut-scenes of a mission, can not invite other players to their session, nor can they join others who would be doing that same mission, so long as those cut scenes have not been seen. What this does, in combination with the fact that your personal progression is entirely tied to the story progression, is encourage a player to go through each mission on their own and makes it overly complicated to play through with friends until you get to the actual grind, past high rank. This, in my honest opinion, is a flaw to a game that focuses heavily on online play with a story line about as deep as a porn video's. Besides that though, I really can't find any flaws to the game itself. Grouping with friends can be a little wonky, but I put that issue on PSN's shoddiness, and the game does have an alternative that circumvents PSN's downtimes. Even when the friend list is down, you can join a squad's session, where your friends will meet up with you. The grouping features aren't perfect, but they work.

It's less about hold the player's hand and more about leaving them in the dust. There are just some t hing that are pretty important to know that it just doesn't even hint at. I can't point those things out for sure since I've veen playing the series for awhile now, but i remember just feeling lost for nearly two whole games before someone explained things to me

Superman jumping, Rapid fire and Auto-reload for bowguns, Blast Damage etc. None of those mechanics are ever properly explained which they should have been. For certain monsters you need to look at the wiki to find out what parts need to be broken to get certain items lest you waste hours farming parts you already have. certain status effects can be relieved by button mashing but theres never a prompt for it. They also nerfed a bunch of gems and this was only discovered through testing by the community

I've played MH since ps2 network adapters. This "Dumbing Down" is nothing more than transparency. These "veteran" hunters need to bite their tongue. We need more people to like MH. Additionally, 6- star quests and up, the monsters get more brutal. It doesn't matter if there are damage numbers, if you suck at the game, you're not bringing down some of remote challenging fights unless you get carried.

Only 2 things bug me, 1 you don't need manage inventory as closely dino parts and metals automatically go to base instead of pack, 2 auto craft shouldn't exist if you want potions get to safety and craft it manually, i don't mind there being just 1 click craft but Geeze don't craft it for it us

Not Monster Hunter, excuse you? This game actually takes more of the Hunter concept into it than games like Generations did. You can move just like previous games, you can fight just like previous games. You just have additional features now. If you don't like progression of concept, go back and play MH on the PS2 or play your Freedom Unite or Tri. I've been hunting just as long as any of you obnoxious haters and I can tell you for sure that this game *is* Monster Hunter. And who cares if they're changing Monster Hunter to appeal to a wider audience? They still appeal to many veteran hunters as is obvious by just Jared's opinion in and of itself, since he is a veteran hunter too. People have started talking about how we have a toxic community now a days and that pisses me off, because we've always had a great community until this game. Now the so-called Vets are coming forward and complaining that it's too easy or too different and making others feel unwelcome. This game is an updated concept from the older games. That's it. It's a modern spin on what we loved. If you expect new games to be released that limit you more than what previous installments did, then why don't you do everyone a favor, sit down in a chair, tie your hands together and just watch a blue screen so that you can enjoy your limitations and we can enjoy our gameplay.

All that is still there. The only items you can pick up instantly, and when sprinting, are the super basic items, that there’s only one of in a stack. Mining and gathering mushrooms and stuff are faster than before, but still require you to stop, get down, and go through a gathering animation several times.

As Emo said, this component still exists. The process is expedited for the more essential ingredients like honey and plants for potions, which is a very sensible change. I recall mining being a bit fast when I played the demo but not being instant.

I can only imagine elitists whining about accessibility. "The game's too dumbed down!" The reason I can only imagine it is because I've not seen it anywhere. There seems to be almost no elitists in the MonHun community in the way there is in fighting games, where every accessibility improvement is met with scoffs and moaning about how it fills the community with scrubs. And yeah, it'll suck for some people to get matched with clueless beginners, but most veteran players I've heard from have relished the thought of taking a chick under their wing. Add to that the "Adopt a Noob" system that allows people to sign up as a veteran or novice and get matched up to learn about the game, and you have a wonderful, friendly learning community. It's almost as if a cooperative PvE game about fighting big dumb monsters with big dumb weapons makes people happy. Well done, Monster Hunter!

Domino D I'm getting the game as a newcomer too. I did purchase 4 Ultimate after World's announcement trailer, but I've only done like ten hunts. From playing World's beta, I think it's really easy to get into. Soon enough I was trying to beat my fastest times and showing my other friends how to play. If you've been interested in the series as have I, but never actually got into one of the games, this is the one to start with. It's reasuring to hear that ProJared, as a veteran from the beginning, has almost nothing but praise for the game as well.

"BACK IN MY DAY MONSTER HUNTER USED TO BE GRINDY NOW IS FULL OF CASUALS" But been serious here, I was one of those people who have a lot of mix feelings with this game. Most of all, the changes to the gameplay, but when I played the Beta I could see how good the game was. It delivers the true Monster Hunter experience for any veteran or newcomer to the franchise. Even some changes like running while you eat/drink have their own punishments in doing so. Like yes you can move, but If you dodge while drinking, you lose part of your health, wasting even MORE potions and materials. Finally I love that they got us back the old school gameplay for all the weapons, because my main weapon was the Charge Blade back in MH4U. But I got disappointed when I discover that in MH:Generations they kinda "nerfed?" the weapon. BUT NOW in MH:WORLD THE CHARGE BLADE IS BACK BABY WITH ALL HIS COMBOS/CANCELS/ELECTROSHOCKS AND MORE OP SHIT THAT MADE THE WEAPON SO GREAT WHEN IT CAME OUT. IM SOLD MAN. (At least I hope it was the case with all other weapons because I have only try the Charge blade :P)

I was really impressed with the qol changes when I played the demo. They clearly put a lot of thought into player concerns and made sure the qol changes wouldn't dumb down the game's mechanics. And yes, we shall deus vult together with our charge blades and take back jerusalem

Yup. All the weapons got a bit of loving. I'm a switch axe user with some minor gripes (mostly from axe mode attacks not charging sword gauge) but the phial awakening and the minimount combo, bonuses etc, I still love it. Every weapon was shown some love.

I have mixed feelings about the game also. I maybe a decent hunter, but I can't back up any other hunter in multiplayer since I don't have Playstation Plus, since the subscription give me a bad taste like Xbox Live does. I have a part time job, but that money is better spent buying new games and paying tuition, not be some World of Warcraft whale or lootbox mook. That is the most killing of flaws in a game that values skills and teamwork equally, when you have to keep paying for teamwork unlike 4 Ultimate. Maybe I should stick to PC and 3DS if MH World fails to keep me engaged after the end of the story. If Capcom's making a gamble on the series future this, I say they have a full house, but someone is going to pull off a straight or royal flush. Get back to bringing XX overseas if multiplayer is a problem. I would rather get to meet randoms of varying skills again than these new mechanics.

Kami75 I have a problem with the Charge blade, countering with AED is useless, since you should be spamming SAED anyway, and it's more boring to spam SAED than to counter and headsnipe with AED tbh.

MegaZX_ Unity747 If I was on Switch, I’d be pretty salty about not getting World, especially because I didn’t enjoy cross, and so far it seems like XX can’t compare to World.

I can understand World not coming to the Switch if capcom at least port XX over, but they are a shitty company and didn't want any distraction of World sales. So I am salty over that.

Hitting weak spots had visual indicators before mhw, we didn't need damage numbers for that. in XX for example the screen flashes yellow when you hit a weak spot. Just as a side note. Super looking forward to playing, can't wait to get home after work today and play all weekend.

I don't get why people don't mention the tedious part of the multiplayer. It is totally broken atm if you ask me... It is just not "drop in/drop out" multiplayer. The key quests that is the single player missions is extremely annoying to get through since the player who posts the quests MUST watch the cutscene and progress in the posted mission before he/she can shoot a SOS flare. And when me and my bro tried it yesterday it disconnected us as soon as he sent SOS to the hub. And the game is totally deserted in that sense that no room exists. You can't just search for a specific target as you did before, instead you find... nothing. The player base will die off quickly if the multplayer doesn't get a fix soon.

One thing I think should be mentioned is that when you dodge cancel out of using a consumable it still uses up that item without the effects taking place, so you still need to pick the right time to use your items.

Love your review and completely agree, I'm a bow vet from the previous games and love the way that the bow has been adapted for the console. I really hope that this title sees a new wave of popularity and a strong message that the creators are going in the right direction. I hope to catch one of your flares one day, it'd be wicked!
