The best advice I can give to newbie players is this: When playing Always, ALWAYS remember to tap the PS4 button on the controller/force close app/select Dark Souls 1 or 3/Praise The Sun/ hope this helps.

Important to note that when you are damaged, a chunk of that damage will heal back up if you can avoid being hit more. If you can do so, try to hold out before healing. What might need a mega potion could turn into a regular potion.

you get plenty of mats in the game to make pots. you really shouldnt hold back if you dont need to in healing, especially when you get to some of the more aggressive and lethal monsters. when in doubt, chug the biggest potion you need. so, in the case of getting hit by a BIG attack, take mega potion, if you got hit by some smaller attacks or a medium hit, chug a regular potion. my general rule is if you drop below either 3/4 or 2/3 of your maxed out bar, you should think about healing since im used to fighting monsters that usually kill you in 2-3 good hits, often can just outright murder you from 150HP to 0 in a single combo or hit, even if you have great gear and stat boosts. if you are fighting against something you know has a decent chance of either one shotting you or comboing you to death, the lower your HP, the higher chance you have of wiping if you slip up or get unlucky. the only times you can generally wait for your natural HP recovery to get your red HP bar back is either when the big monster runs off, or if you arent engaging a large monster in general. in the middle of fighting a large monster, you can generally consider the red HP to be lost HP because you rarely have enough of a breather for any significant amount of that HP to be regained. playing it dangerous like the way you are suggesting is how you cost everyone the mission against monsters like the Nergigante. This is unfortunately a lesson that is learned through experience, and with any new hunter, often, the fights with monsters like the Rathelos are the ones that teach it to you, as I feel like that is the first level of "serious threat" monster that most people encounter, then the Rathian drills that into you with a much higher threat level due to its high damage hits, with many of them being more than able to take down 2/3 to 3/4 of a maxed HP bar when you first start fighting it.

if you get knocked down you're invincible for a bit while on the ground so don't stand up right away, wait till the follow-up combo is past.

I've watched a decent amount of "beginners" guides but this one is by far the best and actually helps a lot
If I were you, I would have talked a bit about the slingshot thingy.
Thank you so much for this guide, man. As a completely new player who has never played Monster Hunter before, the game was really overwhelming and frustrating at first. After a few hours of gameplay and watching this video, I'm really starting to get the hang of the game and actually am able to enjoy it for what it is. Liked and subscribed
Make sure to pay attention to Armor Skills and not just Resistances on your Armor. Many armor sets come with stat bonuses that increase your damage, walking speed, further resist damage or sometimes even let you ignore the monsters crowd control. While less so that previous Monster Hunter games, Armor Skills are probably THE most important thing to pay attention to when crafting.

That is only true for high- and especially for G-rank. In Lowrank the skills are bs anyway and i would always go for the most defens ore the simplest to make.

Totally agree!!! The game tutorial is way too superficial. Not only in combat, but in all upgrade/craft system. The game just throws you some basics and nothing is too detailed. And the upgrade system of weapons and armor is quite complex. Well, I'm enjoying the game, but those first hours were overwhelming and I believe it frustrates some people to the point they actually quit. These guides are pretty helpful indeed.

@@aboundingink4495 I agree partially with you. Talking about my specific case. I haven't the same amount of time to play i used to have some years ago. Spending hours to learn a new game, its mechanics and progression it's alright, but some games are just too time consuming. We're talking about days, in order to fully comprehend them totally. MHW and the Witcher are perfect examples of that. By the way, the Witcher is probably the best game I have ever played. But I do remember struggling during the first days. Struggling to the point I almost quit. And back then I had time to spare. Now, time to play is shorter with family and kids. However, the struggle is usually very well rewarded, and that's the part that makes me agree (partially) with you. Cheers!

Thank you for this tutorial and the recommendations. I am new to MHW but I prefer long ranged attacks, and in particular bows because I often forget to look out for important details like health and stamina/magic reserves if I charge in head first with melee.
I just bought this game (partly bc the streams made the game look super fun) and this is so helpful. Thanks, Pat!

rollerfox88 After playing this game it has finally encouraged me to go and get my eyes tested as I can't read a thing of text (I sit about 2m away from my TV when playing). It's definitely a large problem and has existed in the MH Franchise ever since its first release. I wish they could've put an option where you could make the text larger as it'd make the world of difference.

Same problem here. The first day I played, reading all the small text was real hard. Straining to see started to give me a headache after a while. I tried for like 20 minutes to find an option to change the font size but no luck obviously. Hopefully they might create a patch for it, otherwise I guess a bigger tv is in order for me.

Finally an understandable and good summary! Thank u
Personally I'd recommend using the Hunting -Hammer- Horn. My experience with it so far is that I'm mindlessly attacking the monster and when I feel like doing extra damage, I also buff up myself and my surrounding companions. If you want to get strategic, before a fight use self improvement and damage boost L. Later on, use also Recovery Speed L (PS. I'm a horn main and I can't even remember the name of my weapon type) smh at myself into infinity void

MHW is my first monster hunter game, I have now put 500 hours into the game. Replaying on the PC now, don't get discouraged, this game comes together very well. If you hit a hard monster and get frustrated, give it time and keep at it - once you learn to fight the beast, it will seem easy. MHW has the most natural difficulty curve I have played in any game.
That was a really good guide. Well done.
Nice thank you can't wait to get the game at least now I know what too do
Thanks, This will really help me when I get the game.😀😀😀
The weapon is super important. I started off thinking dual blades would be my calling, then quickly turned to longsword for anja. Shortly after I turned to the bow and then it just clicked and i've spent 50 hours already my first week. Gonna learn the charge blade soon, but having that ONE weapon you can depend on and be confident with a huge boost!
I just wanna say thank you, cause I didn't know what the hell I was doing until after I watch this video, it really helps me out a lot

honestly this is so helpful
the hunting portion of this was primarilly focused on bladed weapons basically anything but the bows you didnt really go over ammo management or even what the different ammos do, granted i dont think a complete noob to this style of game would choose something like a bow but its still a thought as ive just recently started playing mhw new to monster hunter series but not its genre of game as i have played souls and its alot like it i felt comfortable starting with a bow but it is drastically different than a souls bow gameplay other than that small note i loved this video
World is my first Mon Hunt game, so thanks for the tips! =) "Congratulations on destroying nature." Was my favorite part tho xD
Wow that helped me a lot, thanks m8
Why isn't there an official strategy guide book by Prima or someone else? Love to get my hands on a physical book loaded with content & artwork!
In the trial I realized that using that using only 1 weapon is a bad idea because I started with the dual blades and then used the insect glaive for a bit but when I encountered Barroth with my dual blades. My weapon kept bouncing off so I had to switch to the great sword. So those were my 3 used weapons.
Thank you, very useful
Good video...thanks!
Very good guide thank you ^-^
Thanks you explained a lot more than game does
Question... I remember in Monster Hunter Ultimate for Wii U that there was a hidden table/chart of sorts that determined what quality and rarity of charms you could actually find throughout the game. I ended up with an unlucky/cursed loot table on my character that meant I couldn't find certain charms in the game that were very low in quality out of like 800 possible charms... only 20 or so were actually decent. Is that back in this game as well?
Great guide ty
As someone who is a veteran of this game, watching this vid makes one realize just how much there is to this game. And honestly its not even half of what this game contains. For every part he talks about there is still more sub parts and actions to learn about them. And even though I've been playing monster hunter since previous versions, there are still parts of it I still don't fully understand. That's not to say this game isn't fun. It totally is. It just has a major learning curve. MHW seems to do the best job of teaching newbies tho. For the people that say it does a bad job of teaching newcomers, its nowhere near as bad as the previous games. It's no wonder those games back then where played only by the really dedicated players. But in the end its totally worth it, hunting down that one hard monster or gathering enough resources to craft that armor or weapon after so much grinding is just so satisfying. And the battles, even though can be long and difficult are always fun to do.
I’m new to the monster hunter series and I have one question. If I’m carted back to camp does the damage I already did to the monster remain or do they regain full health?
