love the She-Hulk reference
This is an EXCELLENT design. Fast teach, good choices, another incredible design from Phil!
Building the Monolith in this one and trying to build the patterns from the structure blueprint reminds me a lot of Catacombs Cubes where you use WOODEN blocks to construct buildings. I wouldn’t mind a little shorter and more streamlined version of that one!
Dice Tower: that title gave you an automatic like

That's what I came here to say. The Dice Tower is killing it with the titles lately.

@@fredmcmack it's a She-Hulk reference.
Thank you so much for this review! I came across this game on a random search for Phil Walker-Harding on a retail website. Hadn’t seen anything about it previously. We love Walker-Harding designs and are a new-to-modern-board games family. Our grandkids love puzzly, polyomino games (Silver and Gold, Project L) especially our 6 yr. old granddaughter. I think we will love this game! That lighter weight and quick play are perfect for us to play with our grandkids.
Came here to like the video just because of the title! (I also really like The Dice Tower)
Great title!
I also would like to point out the ""oozing dryness"... I would not have been able to keep a straight face after that one.
This game feels pretty light but it’s a pretty fun game to play with pretty good choices. Feels like the same depth as baren park . It’s more like a game newer gamers will enjoy. Seasoned gamers as a filler. Happy to have in the collection I mean Phil walker Harding. Doesn’t that mean just buy it
The unique spelling makes it easier to search for

Sure. Except if you hear about the game from some ("Hey, there's a great new Walker-Harding name, called [pronounced title] and you search the title, you'll never find it.
I'm confused - the "y" is exactly where I think it would be.

Oozing dryness? 🤣
would you recommend this over block and key?
@DTWendy
Жыл бұрын
Honestly I wish this had the components of block and key, but yes I would choose to play this first.
Tom was 7.5!
It's remind me of "Rumis (2003)" that was later reimplenmented by "Blokus 3D (2008)" except it was wooden blocks in the first edition (Camilla must love these blocks). The other difference was a central board for all players instead of individual one. For me, it's a mashup between, at least ,"Patchwork" and "Rumis". I could see the reference to "Lost ruin of Narak". So nothing new that I could'nt pass on.
First instinct was to say it was 'Neoville 3D'. Second instinct is to say that similarly to Knizia where you see a new game and you say 'Hey, it's a different mesh of other things from his previous game'. It's not necessarily a bad thing... But it's weird to me to witness, first hand, the difference, for me, between 'waiting for a new Phil Walker-Harding' game 3-4 years ago, and now.
Tom’s expression on the “I like something with more heft” comment was priceless.
Like all the crew, but we need more Camilla! She's my favorite on these.
But not where you thiiiiiiIIiiiiinnnnnnnk :D
You didn’t say anything about any restrictions, if any, on pieces placement. Also, what’s the role of colors? Kinda important information…

It's what you are betting on during the game. You can skip taking a block and instead take one of the available bets, place it on any side of your monolyth, and if you meet or exceed your bet, you get that many points at the end of the game.
@XCM666

@@Thebestdruid If you reach the desired amount, you get that amount of points (as printed on the chip) and if you don't, well you don't.
Can someone explain the title? Is there a joke about the spelling or something?
@flynetqc
Жыл бұрын
It's a reference to an Episode of the Marvel show She-Hulk where one of the character is named Madisyn.
Same like Ubogo 3D
Having all the center tiles be the same color and style seems like it could be really annoying. Couldn't they at least have giving the three different types of tiles a slightly different shade or made the numbers different colors?
Maybe it's spelled with a "Y" cause you're building along the Y axis? 🤔
Y tho?
Commas go inside quotation marks in American English. Otherwise, I enjoyed the title :)
@gohan2304

Actually, the comma is correctly outside the quotation marks because the "Y" isn't dialog.
@cornichon2580

@@gohan2304 I'd be very curious to see your source on that for American English, as every style guide I've ever seen says that commas and periods always go inside the closing quotation marks and makes no distinction between an actual quote or scare quotes.
I think they missed the boat on the components and appearance of this, and for that reason it’s not going to be a popular hit.
I enjoyed it. Played pretty quickly. Nice filler game.
Please stop complaining about weird spellings. I'm sick of looking up things on BGG and getting an endless list. Monolith is already a board game name; it's in the title of other games and expansions; and it's a publisher's name. There's nothing else named Monolyth on BGG. Extra point for that.

They also have a prophecy mechanic which kind of conjures images of history and ideas of adventure stories so I wonder if the Y is kind of an association with the word myth.

The Y helps searching for the game if you know how it is spelled, but it makes it very difficult if you heard about it once and want to research it.
